No pausing, no switching, no retrying, turn off monitor and speakers, and do it while jumping on one leg. You can't miss one treasure chest/loot. Do it all in one sitting. All side quests included. All 50 hours of it.

ANYONE WHO CAN'T DO THIS IS A PAAANSY

My party isn't in stone yet, but will look something like this:

MageHawke- Force Mage/Blood Mage (Depending on tanking ability of a rogue, might switch out Blood Mage for Spirit Healer.)

Isabela- DW Rogue

Sebastian- Archery Rogue

Anders- Supper Healer (Unless Hawke takes Spirit Healer) OR Fenris (2H Tanking)

Now, keep in mind that I have it more difficult than the PC player. I am doing this with 6 hotkeys on PS3, if I can. Problem is, IDK how to record my screen on a PS3 so I can upload, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: As for my method, let's just say it involves a lot of miasmic flasks, a 2 bodyguard team for Anders, and a very kite-happy Hawke!

I consider myself a very good gamer. I honestly do not see how, short of exploiting some broken game mechanic, we'll be able to do Nightmare without pausing. The sheer amount of aoe combat seems to revolve around this time around just doesn't seem to me like it'll be possible.

But, hey. Good luck with it. ;p

lol, good luck for anyone doing this, because due to the faster paced combat its going to be a lot harder then doing nightmare in DA:O and also no isometric view. This challenge was definitely possible in DA:O.

Actaully, I can see this being done (very tediously) by taking advantage of that rogue backjump thing and the fact that you can kill almost anything hit and run style.

Its the bosses, I am sure there will be a mage boss with other mages supporting him, that type of battle will definitely require some pausing on nightmare.

Sabresandiego,

Are you planning to start this challenge at the very beginning of the game, or after you can make the full party you listed in the OP? You may want to try playing through the demo on Nightmare as it will give you an idea of the viability of your current plan. It's tough playing through it on Nightmare with a 2-Her. I relied on my mage to carry me through the battles mostly...

Also, the fact that there is no longer any isometric view really makes it tough to quickly issue accurate commands in real-time.  I initially tried to beat the demo on Nightmare w/o pausing, and in the few seconds I wasn't babysitting each character they would get slaughtered.

I did eventually beat it though, and only wiped once (due to FF).

I wish you luck sabre but I don't see this happening, especially if you're a 2H tank :x

Good luck. However my experience so far (unbalanced version of nightmare) suggests that it might be impossible or extremely frustrating. Personally I will try to minimize pausing, so I am intrested in your endeavor. Your plan sounds plausible. Since we don't know the specializations trees I cannot say anything more.

It would be tough (boring) to play without pausing, because it would mean limiting myself to 6 spells. On DA:O for the PC I had 21 abilities on my hotbar, but at the moment I am playing the PS3 version and am limited to 6 which means I have to pause to even access all my other spells~. Since my laptop will not handle DA2, I am getting it for the PS3 and I need more than 6 spells!

If there was a way to have the action continue in real time behind the radial menu then I would probably play that way, but I do not think that is an option.

So does this include no going to use a health poultice ( i know its potion know but i like poultice better) because that is in the like radial menu and what about like moves you cant put on the shorcuts (im on console) if i can do these things which i ususally dont think about just throw them out whenever i think they will be useful (worked in DAO nightmare) THen i will totally try this on my second playthrough.

Tried this in the original DAO and had to break the rules quite a few times. Maybe once I get bored with DA2 I'll try it.

I do not think I would have a ton of fun doing this. I love pausing and being tactical when I can. But I think it might be something to try down the road sometime. =)

You should throw in a "dead Hawke = game over/restart" for an additional challenge.

No. Considering the painstaking cool down times on the health potions and a mage's heal spell, Nightmare, for you, will be a real nightmare.

Well I play on console so I can't play with out 'no pause'. Anything past my 6 main skills will ultimately, force a pause. Anytime I want to drink a potion? force a pause. So this is kinda a PC only thing sadly.

if you roll rogue, let me know. other than that, good luck w/ your nightmare quest - i hope to see you kick butt like you did on your vanguard insanity runs on ME2.

I like to play nightmare for the challenge, but this sounds like as much fun as making love to a woodchipper.

Try out Nightmare with no pausing in the demo, using the new mod (there's a topic on these boards).. I guarantee you won't be able to do it, especially with the swarming darkspawn.

It's quite doable in the demo, Cyr8.

I won't be taking this challenge, least not on the first playthrough. Wish those luck though, definitely looks to be an entertaining game.

Make fun of the OP all you want, I personally am fascinated.

Be sure to record it if you can properly and upload it to youtube. That would be a sight to see. I personally would not be able to do the challenge, since the game is too fast for my liking. but I'm still interested.

reminds me too much of work, doing three to four jobs at the same time, the orders come pouring in, there is no time to pause for a moment and draw a breath - i work in a kitchen. If you like it so much, maybe you should consider becoming a chef; you get to play with big knifes, too.
No thanks, i like to take things slow in my time off and the interface just looks so sad with all those dead party members.
