Nightmare With No Pausing Challenge

Aveline is all like "I got this guys, i tank, no problem", dies in the 1st 2 seconds. Then the rest of the party follows shortly and then you keep kiting. You can basically add soloing to your challenge and it might be the same. Regardless good luck with that sir. And just to quote Flemeth here:
"Try to have fun, dear"

Edit: Even though it wasn't balanced/etc, I was able to do it...but definitely not without pausing. Damn you not-so-friendly fire.

Beats standing in place and dying. The best way to tank is to not get hit in the first place.

Besides, as a brazilian martial arts practicionist, I can't help but defend a guy that features Anderson Silva's impressive performance in that fight. Even though he's been acting like a complete d**k as of late.

Ummm... You really expect to beat Nightmare without pausing without a tank? Without a Warrior at all? And 2H tanking will be next to impossible on Nightmare. That's why my awesome 2H tank will be on Normal or Hard. For Nightmare an SnS Warrior is a necessity.XX-Pyro wrote...

My party isn't in stone yet, but will look something like this:
MageHawke- Force Mage/Blood Mage (Depending on tanking ability of a rogue, might switch out Blood Mage for Spirit Healer.)
Isabela- DW Rogue
Sebastian- Archery Rogue
Anders- Supper Healer (Unless Hawke takes Spirit Healer) OR Fenris (2H Tanking)
Now, keep in mind that I have it more difficult than the PC player. I am doing this with 6 hotkeys on PS3, if I can. Problem is, IDK how to record my screen on a PS3 so I can upload, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: As for my method, let's just say it involves a lot of miasmic flasks, a 2 bodyguard team for Anders, and a very kite-happy Hawke!

Shield is not necessary. A 2H warrior can tank just fine on nightmare if you play it well.

The Ultimate Vanguard: Nightmare Demo Final Boss (choose 1080p)
This thread is for those people who love making split second decisions and being rewarded for optimal player control. Sign here if you will attempt a nightmare run with no pausing, and explain how you plan to accomplish it!
My run:
Sabre Hawke: Primary tank and damage dealer using 2 Handed, Vanguard, Battlemaster, Reaver/Berserker
Anders: Support healer, buffer, cross class combo support
Varric: DPS, aggro control, crowd control
Sebastian: DPS, aggro control, crowd control
Sabre Hawke is a very elusive tank that uses burst fighting to drop enemies before they can retaliate. Anders will be supporting with heals and auras, as well as providing cross class combo synergy. The two rogue archers will control the parties aggro with goad and armistice, crowd control when needed, and snipe out enemy archers and mages.
No romance for you I see...more's the pity.

Nightmare is micro managing and Min/Maxing. Where will your 2H warrior get his defense? Stonewall? It lasts what, 10 seconds? 5? Turn the Blade? Even with all the upgrades it only gives you 15% Defense. Adamant gives you 5%. As a 2H tank on nightmare, you'd have to use the ENTIRE Defender Tree and you STILL wouldn't have the defensive rating of just the SnS's basic Shield Defense BEFORE upgrades. Also, a 2H tank would be completely open to flanking, force, critical hits, etc. As someone posted earlier, sometimes even with all the DPS in the world you can't take out the mobs before they wear you down. If you're getting critted, flanked, etc. with a LOW Defense Rating and Damage Resistance, the tank will die VERY quickly. But he'd have a wide attack range for the 20 seconds that he was standing, so I guess that's important?Sabresandiego wrote...

I'm not saying I don't like the idea of a 2H tank, and I'm definitely going to play one. But on Nightmare? No.

nah I'm not doing the default name. And Joseph Hawke doesn't really work either lol
Then turn your name into something cool... For instance, my name is Justin, so I name some characters Justonius lol... So maybe Joseph could turn into Josephale?

edit: josephale might work. I'll think about that one.

For a tank who stands in place and takes damage, shield is ofcourse the best. If you wanna 2hand tank you have to stay mobile, use AOE attacks, or watch my video and read my guide to see how I do it personally.

@cole. Though other tanking strats might be available for the full game, the performance in the video posted relied on timing of movement and kiting; specifically: taking advantage of the new closing lunge attack and the boss' really slow melee animation. In a situation with snares, slows, roots, or fast ranged attacks, the strats would have to be a lot more sophisticated.

You can just watch my video on the first page. 2H tanking can ultimately take less damage then shield because you kill more enemies faster with AOE attacks. You can also minimize your disadvantages by constantly moving instead of standing in place.

I've made builds of 2H tanks that look a lot like yours on my own, but I just can't see it working out on Nightmare, especially w/o pausing. I don't know if you're forgetting something, but Nightmare has a DEADLY Friendly Fire. So if your DPS rogue gets too close and you use your awesome Cleave/Muscle/Tornado combo that will do OODLES of damage in a 7m circle, you'll kill your rogue straight off.
And while yes, your build could work against mobs (I'm still skeptical), what about bosses like the Highdragon? There's no way you're going to take it out before it completely destroys you.
Another question is: How will you manage your party if you're completely focused on keeping your tank moving around? What happens when your tank finally stops moving because you switched over to your mage for some emergency healing? Or your rogue to set up a combo on a lieutenant.
So while I DO like 2H tanks for Normal, maybe even Hard, I don't think it's feasible on Nightmare because of friendly fire, massive boss damage/health, and the need to keep your tank on the move so he doesn't get powned?

one name that I really liked using in Origins was my Dwarf Noble's name, my avatar. Meet noble Xanthos Aeducan! Also, I claim dibs on that name =P. you use it, a legion of ravenous killer monkeys shall appear at your doorstep and.... well it won't be pretty.

But it also relies on taking control of your tank constantly so he doesn't get powned. Which means your mage might not cast the right spell, or the rogue isn't doing all the damage that it could be doing.KallDay wrote...
There might not be any pausing, but there will be a whole heckuva lotta quickloading, and the painstaking working out of specific no-pause strats before hand for each tough fight.
