This topic is about the exaggerated game play that happens
in the beginning of the game.  The game play that has Hawke in the exaggerated/epic/end
game armor.  This topic is also about the full game, not the demo.  I
am also aware that I am doing some speculating, but I haven't seen anything so
far to disprove my speculations.

____________________

So, it is my impression that the beginning of the full game unfolds as
such:

1. You start a new game, and the game starts with Varric and Cassandra.
He starts the story of Hawke(The exaggerated version).

2. You are taken to a screen where you have six choices: Mage(Male/Female), 2
Handed Warrior(Male/Female), Dual Wield Rogue(Male/Female).  All these
choice are also the default looking Hawke.

3. Then you play through the exaggerated version.  It starts(I presume)
with an opening scene where it is you and your sibling surprising and killing
some Darkspawn with little to no effort.  I have seen three versions of
this scene so far:  The mage version, the dual wield rogue version, and
the 2 handed warrior version.  This whole portion is played with the
default Hawke.

4.  After the exaggerated version, when Cassandra calls Varric out, you
then go to the character creator where you can either create a custom Hawke, or
stick with the default.  Also, this is where you customize your stats,
abilities, etc.

5.  You then play the non-exaggerated version with your created
Hawke(Either custom or default).

____________________

So my questions are:

1.  Is it true that the exaggerated portion at the start of the game can
only be done with a default looking Hawke?

2.  Is it true that the exaggerated portion at the start of the game,
including the awesome scene where Hawke and his/her sibling surprises and kills
some Darkspawn, can only be done with mage, 2 handed warrior, or dual wield
rogue?  (No sword and board or archer Hawke?)

____________________

If the answers to these two questions are yes, then that is lame.  :(
And I don't understand why that would be the case.  Why would the
exaggerated version of your Hawke have him/her have black hair, when your Hawke
was actually blonde?  Why would the exaggerated version have Hawke as a
dual wield rogue when you were an archer?  Plus, I don't want to see the
default Hawke being super cool if I was planning on making a custom
Hawke.  Custom Hawkes can be cool too.  B)

So, here's to hoping that this isn't the case.  :wizard:

EDIT:  Stupid mistakes/typos...

It's my impression that both are yes and I as well, if it is really the case, am confused as to why exactly that's the case? Doesn't make a whole lotta sense, especially if your Hawke is a darker ethnic custom make. Having a Black/Latino/Asian/other Hawke with that mandatory default opening will be jarring and ridiculous..

So here's hoping they're just rumors because otherwise.. wow, so contrived..

Cassandra: "What? EVERYONE knows Hawke is from Rivain, why would you say she's white?"

Varric "Well... I prefer whites?"

*Cassandra stabs Varric*

Who cares? It's like the first 5 minutes of the game. Whatever.

My guess is that you'll have your CC before the game starts. That means making your hawke and picking the class.

As for if you can use bows and such... no clue.

I dont see why this really matters, seeing as its not real and just a few minutes of exaggerated play, or as Cassandra puts it "BS" then you go on to play the rest of the game w/ your custom character...

It'd be VERY strange and off-putting to see two wildly differing characters (or more, if your family members look very different - ie, skin tone) for the 'legendary' and 'mundane' stories.

Is it only five minutes of the game? Yes. Do those five minutes really matter to the story? No.

But do you get to see Hawke being amazingly badass during those five minutes? Yes. Would you rather see YOUR Hawke being amazingly badass? Yes.

Would it shatter immersion? YES.

This.

I don't see why Bioware can't just put CC first? Where did you guys get this from?

I'd really have to see how it'd work contextually.

I imagine that Varric lying about basic things like Hawke's appearance and being called out for it might be a way to test how much Cassandra already knows.

You'd defend DA2 if it consisted of wario ware minigames that ended with "it was all a dream!"..

At least that's the impression I've gathered from your posts all over the board.. ANY complaint is met with a "Who cares?".. So, you should just start posting *generic Marshalleck quote here*, it would save time.

That is, unless I've missed some concerns from you as well, in which case disregard my post.

Well, yes, it's not a huge issue.  However, that is partly why it wouldn't make too much sense for there to be no way to see your custom Hawke in the exaggerated game play.  I am not complaining, just curious.  I know it isn't game breaking, but it would be nice to see my Hawke looking cool instead of the default one.  I am still buying the game, and I will probably enjoy it.

I am speculating from what I have seen so far.  I could be wrong, and I hope I am wrong.  :D

Cassandra is interrogating him and Varric doesn't exactly look like he wants to cooperate. He's throwing her off.

Well we just haven't seen a lot of custom hawke yet.

I've only seen a few pictures from around the time they meet Aveline. Doesn't mean custom hawke isn't in the rest of the game ;)

This is essentially tantamount to complaining about the Hawke in the Destiny trailer not being your Hawke and using abilities not exclusive to one class. Varric has been captured, is being interrogated and is spinning a grand tale to throw Cassandra off. Why would he give a detailed description of his friend in the first few minutes? Not only is the tale exaggerated, but quintessentially untrue.

It's not a huge deal, but I'd wonder why it'd be like this. I imagine to keep the beginning of the game fast moving (since creating a character can take a while for people), but...

Why would he assume Cassandra wouldn't know what Hawke looked like, especially skin color?  He's already risen to freaking power.. I'm assuming Cassandra is informed enough to know at least the basic information about Hawke... Varric would have to assume the Chantry are a bunch of complete morons..

It would be like spinning a tale about Obama and telling the interrogater that he was Asian...
