I can't watch the show now to give you the exact time but, if memory serves, there was a video preview on Server Down , a german video show and it showed the character creator and then it showed a custom Lady Hawke in the exaggerated portion of the game.

If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, I think that should be confirmation that in the actual game you will get to create your Hawke before you start gameplay.

But that doesn't look like the exaggerated version I am talking about.  This video, from 1:20 onward, shows what I am referring to:

(Be wary, this video shows the first 2 minutes of DA2.  If you don't want to see that, then skip to 1:20, or don't watch the vid.)

However, I could be wrong.  I hope I am wrong.  :D

Who cares? It's like the first 5 minutes of the game. Whatever.

You'd defend DA2 if it consisted of wario ware minigames that ended with "it was all a dream!"..

At least that's the impression I've gathered from your posts all over the board.. ANY complaint is met with a "Who cares?".. So, you should just start posting *generic Marshalleck quote here*, it would save time.

That is, unless I've missed some concerns from you as well, in which case disregard my post.

I get what he means though. People criticise everything and anything and more often than not its something totally trivial like the colour and straightness of Hawke's teeth, the width of his arms or the size of his sister's breasts.

I don't understand.
I don't see any option for gender and class selection. Is that video really the first 2 minutes?

Why are we assuming that is how it works?

I would assume you create your character and then the game starts.

Because that makes sense.

I watched the first 2 minutes of dragon age 2 video, and if that is really how the game starts than it sure looks like you play for a very brief period as the default/exagerrated Hawke. Then after that, when Varric starts telling the real story you customize. This is what it appears to be.

I watched it too, and I still don't see why you wouldn't create your character and then start the game. Sure the video didn't show the character creation. It also didn't show class or sex selection, which we know has to be before the exaggerated gameplay, because they aren't assigning you a random Hawke, they're using the one you created. The 2 minute video also didn't show the title screen, and I'm willing to bet that exists in the game, too.

Because the devs confirmed that it is the way it works. You choose a Hawke of preferred class and gender, do the exaggerated bit, then CC.

Okay, that's a valid reason then. The two minute video is not so much. Thank you.

You mean we start as default female warrior?

Edit: Nevermind. As long as we get to choose at least gender and class selection before intro screen, Varric can lies as much as he wants. Else, he's going to pay for his stupidity for lying about my gender in my first play  through.

Edit: Miss out class selection.

When did they confirm this?

Thanks,

I think the implication is that you can skip all the extra stuff and be playing a fight within 15 seconds. Not that you absolutely will be playing the game in 15 seconds. Still the implication that this removes all the stat micromanagement is a bad thing no matter how you try to spin it as streamlining. Micromanagement and character building is part of what made DA:O different and great. End of story.

As I've said before, the "15 second to action" is probably when Varric starts telling the story, choose your class and gender and get the default Hawke for that. For the exaggerated part there would be no assignment of skill-points. Cassandra proceeds to call BS (hopefully not a long way in) and he restarts with you going to CC-screen.

As long as that opening sequence isn't too long I'm fine with it.

That's pretty much it, yes. We're not removing stats, we're just moving them to after you get a chance to play the game.

I would assume that means you make your character, including face gen and class selection, but don't get any points to spend until after the exaggerated section.

It would be pretty nonsensical for him to randomly change hawkes looks. I mean, if imagined hawke was the hawke you made, but she had twice the muscle mass and a badass scar on her face, that I could see in the exageration, but changing hair color/skin color/general features seems pretty silly.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind that.  I don't care if we don't raise abilities til after the exaggerated game play, but to not customize your face???

So the friend of Hawke and the seeker who is errr seeking him out both think Hawke looks like someone else, sorry but i'm calling shennanigans on this one.

This is a sure fire way to divorce your player from the game and the character they're going to make will seem devalued because it's not the real wiggy Hawke.

Unless the darkspawn around lothering are evil plastice surgeons.

He's not changing them because of exaggeration per se, or just randomly making stuff up, it's because that's what the legends say about Hawke's appearance. That's what people in Thedas think of Hawke. Since Hawke is from Ferelden and communication isn't incredibly advanced (or perhaps for other reasons), I find it plausible that such a distortion could occur.

lulz.

Though eally  seems like a silly design choice. Especially when the whole famiy member morphing system was made to accomodate players who made their Warden's outside the norm of Fereldan.

Varric tells the legend (more fun that way), and Cassandra calls BS. Then you replay said section with the "real" Hawke.

is this so hard to understand? Varric is exaggerating, he is telling a story of a champion who single-handedly slaughtered every darkspawn between lothering and the Free Marshes. The story, Hawkes abilities and appearance are a fairy tail he is making up until the seeker asks for the truth, and then you can create your Hawke and canon Story-arc.

This is essentially tantamount to complaining about the Hawke in the Destiny trailer not being your Hawke and using abilities not exclusive to one class. Varric has been captured, is being interrogated and is spinning a grand tale to throw Cassandra off. Why would he give a detailed description of his friend in the first few minutes? Not only is the tale exaggerated, but quintessentially untrue.

Why would he assume Cassandra wouldn't know what Hawke looked like, especially skin color?  He's already risen to freaking power.. I'm assuming Cassandra is informed enough to know at least the basic information about Hawke... Varric would have to assume the Chantry are a bunch of complete morons..

It would be like spinning a tale about Obama and telling the interrogater that he was Asian...

Or that he was born in Tanzania.  Oh wait, people do claim that...

It's not hard to understand, but it is hard to accept and/or enjoy.

The way I understand it Varric is telling Cassandra "the legend of Hawke" in the beginning.  That means Hawke's legend, or what most people know, what will go down in basic history, is that Hawke was BioWare's default, whitebread hero with blood on his/her face.

That's not really beneficial to someone who wants to roleplay.

It makes absolutely no sense for Varric to make the legended Hawke white if she and her family was, for instance, black.

It's pointless and stupid, even if it is 15 minutes of content.
