So after recently buying Awakening, I upgraded my game to 1.04.

Now I can't start new games. When I go into the new character screen, the character model doesn't load and no options appear.

Also, Skills and talents in the book don't show up for any character in Awakening.

Get us some information on your system and versions of OS and the game and we might be able to help.  Also, if you have an 3rd party mods installed, that could be an issue.

Using Windows XP. I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 240 for graphic card and 4 gb of ram. AMD Athlon II x4 635 processor.

I tried running the game with no mods installed and the same problem happened.

Make sure you have the latest Nvidia update for your card... I think it's 266.58. Otherwise, a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game may be in order. It's the only way to make sure your free from the mods' effects.

Edit:  It is quite possible some of the mods you had installed were made before 1.04 was released in July, and that the application of the patch on the modded game caused in unrecoverable error.

I've already tried a reinstall. The same problem always pops up.

Silly question... did you uninstall first?  Completely?

Also:  did you buy Awakening as a stand-alone, or did you get the Ultimate Edition?  And are we talking about retail (discs) or is this from Steam?

I think I remember reading that the stand-alone Awakening expansion needed to be patched in a particular way....I'll see if I can find that info about.

EDIT: http://social.biowar...page/da-patches

See if that has anything to do with it. And if you have patched that way, then that rules out that possibility.

Perhaps the official tech support can help... go to support.ea.com and describe the problem.

EDIT:  BTW, just noticed you have XP and 4GB ram... that's not the 64 bit version of XP, is it?

Well, I guess I just wasted $30.Their official support site still says 1.03 is the latest patch...

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble.  patch 1.03 is the minimum required for Awakening.  Patch 1.04 is suppose to fix some issues associated with it, including some DLC items that didn't transfer from Origins to Awakening.

What exactly did you spend $30 on?  Awakening or Ultimate Edition?

Awakening. I bought it after I finished Origins.
