So I've been thinking, with all the fights on which class is the best, I ask simply, which really is the best class and why?
Simpy which is the most fun and/or most efficient/effective?

I say the Adept. It lacks guns, but has all the best biotic powers. And it's the most fun to use :)

Infiltrator oneshots most enemies on Insanity, so that one has my vote.

It depends on what you mean by "best".

Most fun or most efficient/effective?

Soldier/Infiltrator is easily the latter, especially on the harder difficulties where everyone has shields/armour. You can just ammo power up and unleash hell, it is incredibly quick in comparison to the tech/biotic classes.

As for most fun I'd say I like being a Vanguard as the Biotic charge is extremely fun.

I have never found being an Adept particularly useful in ME2. I tend to keep Samara and Jack with me while being a Soldier/Infiltrator, I take down the shields/armour and then I use the quick commands to have them take them out with biotics (while I mop up everyone else).

I'd say Engineer seems to be the least useful class, I do hope they give it a bit of a boost in ME3.

I've played mostly the soldier so I'm biased but I'm now doing a Vanguard on insanity. I don't think there's a "best" class considering everyone plays differently :)

The points made above illustrate that everyone has a best class - for me, Soldier is the best due to AR and access to all weapons/ammo powers for every situation.

As crackseed said, it depends on playstyle. I'm not a big fan of "pure" classes, so my 3 favourites (in no particular order) are Infiltrator, Sentinel, and Vanguard. I find soldier boring as I have been playing FPS games since Doom hit the market, and the caster classes dont really get my blood pumping.

I have to admit, Vanguard has a pretty steep learning curve early on but man, charge is just so ludicrously fun. I'm looking forward to chasing a certain boss around with charge [LotSB] >.>

The Engineer was the easiest class on insanity for me, because of its ability to instantly take off aggression by deploying a combat drone. a team of engineer + legion + tali barely get shot at because there are so many combat drones flying around.

Soldier. Any gun for any situation. Any ammo for any situation. And all around durable under fire.

Engineer is best.

So many tech powers and with Combat Drone for distraction it is really easy to go CQC.

Does somebody think there will be new weapon classes for ME 3? Like a heavy machine gun or something?

Which game?

Eh, who am I kidding, I play as Infiltrator in both. As a wise motivational once said, snipers might be cowards, but you're still dead.

Revenant is machinegun in ME2.
Also heavy machineguns must be deployed to be fired properly.

Sentinel's easiest imo, I'd argue Infiltrator or Vanguard are also great. Soldiers also have AR.

I'd say all the classes are pretty balanced except Adept, although Adept is still fun. Engineer's are weedy and not my thing, but they have great defense destroying powers, and drone is still useful. Infiltrator and vanguard are my faves though.

True, I totally forgot about the revenant. Well, I stil hope ME 3 will keep the same system that ME 2 had, and not change back to ME 1. That was just stupid

There isn't one. Each has its strong points and each has their weak points. It all boils down to your own play style. Mine happens to be Vanguard, followed by Infiltrator and lastly Sentinel.

Depends on your play style.
For me, soldier was the most fun in ME2. Backpack full of guns? Check! More guns? Double check!

What really turned me off by playing an adept for instance, is the power cooldown timer. You hit a button and wait in cover. Rinse & repeat until all enemies are dead. Pretty boring in my book.

Some classes are downright underpowered. Like the engineer. Good for absolutely nothing. Ohh look at my shiny ball that I can spawn every so often to harass the enemy! If the engineer could construct a mech that followed you around until it died, then they would be so much more useful. Right now you spawn a weird looking ball that either explodes or dies from even the most laughable enemy or just dies due to a built in timer the engineer constucted for whatever reason.

Oh and vanguard is pretty darn fun as well - Especially when you use charge to get right up in someones face. I died plenty of times doing that, but more importantly, I had so much fun dying that way :)

And soldier can handle any problem on any difficulty with ease

That's actually a good idea. I never found the combat drone to be effective enough to make up for the engineers shortcomings, but that much aggro power might be really effective. I'm gonna have to try that.
Still, I think Widow+some tanking power is the best at higher difficulties.
