So, I am currently playing Legacy of White Plume Mountain (love it BTW). I was just wondering, one of my magic bags is starting to fill up with more than a few "Artifacts," none of which are the three main quest items and none of which are better than the equipment I crafted myself (in my opinion anyway.)

That said, is it safe to sell these items? I am afraid that I will miss out on some quest or side story or something where someone is looking for one of these artifacts and will pay big money for it or something.

Also, who's the best merchant in the game? It seems to me that it is the blacksmith in the Underdark. Anywhere I missed?

Thanks!

iirc, "artifact" items have special uses even if they may not be as powerful as something you craft.

What kamal said. Also, you should probably go ahead and look for the three you were tasked to recover from the mountain sooner rather than later or that first part of the quest will end up as a disappointing cakewalk.

p.s. Use of any of the NWN2 crafting systems will tend to result in somewhat overpowered gear that makes anything you find seem lackluster. I tend to avoid it. Case in point is that LoWPM is actually very magic heavy and you are saying your self-made gear is better than what you are finding.

Not a criticism but rather an observation from someone who spends all too much of his time playing mods.

I can only offer this for you: The joy of replayability. I'm not sure specifically which items you might be referring to as Artifacts (which I presume to mean "Named" weapons in general) and to the best of my knowledge, unless someone specifies they are looking for said artifact in particular, you can be pretty safe in selling them.

And I am speaking specific to Legacy of White Plume Mountain. That said, I only Alpha tested, not designed LoWPM. Still, saving to a slot and then dumping would at least let you back track that far if the "missed out on" sidequests are such that you feel you have to Collect Them All. Other than that, I can't recall any moments where I discovered something such as an Artifact and didn't have occasion to sell it to someone looking for it, even if I found it before I was quested to get it. The judicial use of conversation options when speaking with vendors cannot be over stressed. Additionally, it behooves you to sell items of particular nature to merchants of a particular set of wares, savvy?

best of luck and enjoy (My review and opinion of LoWPM is that it is the singularly most fun module I have yet to play, inclusive of the OC, and SoZ. [Didn't even attempt to play MotB, so can't say.])

You still should save some of them. I don't want to spoil it, but IIRC, you might need a certain number of artifacts at a certain point.

These are marked so clearly "ARTIFACT" though, that it's impossible to miss them or mistake them with anything else.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys.

As someone mentioned, I am not just talking about named items, I am talking about the ones clearly marked ARTIFACTS. I have spoken to just about every merchant in the game and didn't get any special messages except once. Is it because they are tucked into the magic bag in my inventory and not in my inventory itself? Am I missing any merchants other than Soubar, the Underdark, and that temple in the Serpent Hills?

Oh and, Quixal, too late, I just finished all the sidequests (I think) today. I guess the Main quest will be a cakewalk. Oh well.

Oh and, no one answered, who is the best merchant (highest paying) in the game?

"Here is a riddle of my own: What's got 11 eyes and lies bleeding on the floor?"

LOL.

I just killed the SOB outright. I hate beholders anyway, even though they can be entertaining.

First time back on the boards in too long

You need 3 'artifacts' in your possession to complete the endgame. You can sell them, but there's enough littered around to make use of.

The merchants in the Underdark are by far the best in terms of stock and amount they will pay.

The first venture into WPM is for level 6-7, the next venture there for levels 9-13, and the shadow mountain for 13+. - depending on gear and how much you rest after combats.

There's more beholders to find - but if you've done the Zhent mines, you'll probably have encountered some of them already!

Wyrin thank you for the reply and thanks for the awesome mod. One more question though. I just ran through the mountain the first time. Level 18 HAH. Pretty much just disintegrated anything that came my way. Anyhow, I just got Blackrazor and now the door back to the big square area with the scorpions and basiliks isn't working. Now what?

You're probably doing it wrong if you're level 18 when you should be roughly half that.

Loosing out on the challenge and enjoyment, you are.

I assume in the intervening two days you thought to do this but just in case, try reloading. The door should appear. I ran into this problem a few times.

Hey Quixal, I tried reloading several times and then I just used the debug script. Now I am on the return to the mountain and got 2 of the fane keys already. Sadly, I ran into yet another issue. I am in the small Underdark area that is an Umberhulk burrow and after I kill all the Umberhulks I can't get through the door that leads down. I couldn't open it (it wouldn't let me even bash it) and so I just blew it open with spells. Then, I could not enter the door. Strange. Now what? Thank you!

I have never been able to get through that bloody door. I think it has to be activated from the other side or something (maybe the gate to the plane of shadow in the drow area?) and I have never figured it out. The door is just as impossible to get through if it is intact.

yeah, ran into the same problem. You can't get close enough to it to open it.

Well, OK, so it's not critical then, that is, there's no lieutenant with a fane key behind it. Alright, good news. Thanks guys.
