I have nearly finished a large project that I am working on that involes simple, flat (plane) models. I have now found that of the 200+ made so far there are six that need to be raised above the rest. The only way that I know to do this is to use a vertically thin model as, if you try to do it with the adjust position menu option, it doesn't stay at the height set when you move it.

Because all I need is one simple box model, size and shape irrelavent, containing a reference to a bitmap (actual bitmap irrelavent), I thought rather than spend a large amount of time learning all the ins and outs of gmax, I'd ask on here if some kindly soul would be gracious enough to post such a model. I suspect that it will only be between 4 and 8 lines longer than the models I am used to working (read hacking :D) with.

Thank you in advance.

What size do you need it? How high above the ground? Are you looking for a box or a plane? Is a placeable walkmesh (.pwk) needed?

If you have a size in mind already, it's really easy to set this in gmax while making the initial model.

Size doesn't matter, I can easily change that using notepad++. I am only raising the top by 5cm above the ground, but again I can do this in npp. I figure I need a box so that I can raise the textures of these 6 models above the rest of the placeables I've already made. In other words the bottom of the box will have a z of 0 for each of its corners while the z of the corners of the top of the box will be 0.05 or 5cm. While I think it would be nice to have a pwk, I also think that it would over-complicate what I am trying to do, so on balance I don't need one.

I did try gmax with nwmax ages ago. I even managed to make a simple black monolith. But it's been so long ago that I've forgotten all I learned. That's why I asked if someone wouldn't mind posting such a simple model. As I say the bitmap referenced is unimportant as I've already got my texture that I will substitute for it.

Thanks for the quick response.

plc_redhand.rar
(You may have to right-click & "save link as..." to get it to download.)

There you go. Just a .rar file that contains two simple models:

plc_redhand1.mdl (a 1 meter x 1 meter x 5 cm wood box)
plc_redhand2.mdl (a 1 meter x 1 meter wood plane set 5 cm above ground level)

Good luck.

Thank you that was just what I needed. I now have the six placeables working correctly. It turns out that I was wrong, it wasn't a box that I needed (tried it and it didn't work as I expected) but a minor modification to the plane model that I had been using. Back in a sec... (sounds of head repeatedly striking desk follow) Anyway, all I've got to do now is to finish the documentation - at the most 2 pdf documents - and I'll upload to the vault.

Thanks again.
