Bioware is too politically correct to make a real dark fantasy RPG.. CD Projekt Red isn't hampered by political correctness and so the Witcher 2 will be a much more authentic experience, just like the original Witcher.

From the few posts I've seen by Gop in the CD red site, he's the type to tell it like it is. I prefer that over spin any day. I also respect Bioware of course, and the devs who regularly get online to speak with us. Besides, Gop just answered the question honestly; he wasn't 'calling out' Bioware.
Yeah I agree, I don't think he was calling out anyone. But you can leave it to others to misinterpret what someone says. However, there's nothing in the games industry that I respect more than complimenting other games, especially if their potential competition. Which is why Mike Laidlaw has my respect.

Again, the attitude if anything is refreshing. I'd rather have a direct "we are better because..." answer than the usual no-content marketing blurb.
And I really hope that CD Projekt thinks they are doing the best game ever. If they shoot to be the second best, they have lost already.
Conversely, I hope that BioWare guys when they work on DA2, their goal is the best RPG ever. What's the point in aiming for mediocrity?
Then we just have a difference in opinion on how marketing should be handled, and thats fine. We like different things, and i wont bash you for it.
Shooting to be the best is what should be happening. I just dont like it when it involves "bashing" (although it wasnt really true bashing) other games that are their competition.
As you said, I would not qualifying it as "bashing."
As for handling the marketing, that's what I like about CD Projekt guys, they come through as just guys talking about their favorite game, as opposed to marketing pros promoting one. Sometimes funny, sometimes awkward, but rather genuine.
Who knows though, maybe they are really, really clever marketers and decided to go for the "just a guy next door" vibe...

Except that not being "hampered by political correctness" leads them to juvenile tastelessness.

It's called marketing hype. See PC vs. Mac, AT&T vs. Verizon, McDonald's vs. Burger King, and just about every other product known to man.

What's the point of that exactly? They remade the original game. Means that they had a whole extra year to work on the game, and still not even get close to DAO, that really speaks in it's disfavor more than helping it. Imagine if Bioware had another year to dedicate to DAO after launch...

*choice: walk left or walk right*
If you walk left a puppy gets kicked into a meat grinder.
If you walk right an orphan gets raped.
Geralt: *curse curse curse curse*
NPC: *curse curse curse curse*
Female NPC: Let's have sex!
Geralt: Give me a dirty playing card with your boobs on it.
Female NPC: OK!
Hooray for 'dark' fantasy!
Basically take the 'sex and violence' marketing for DA:O and make it into an actual game, and you have The Witcher. Except make it boring as all hell, needlessly convoluted and complicated and have the player endlessly smash the left mouse button to fight.

Does dark fantasy involve rape and other attempts to make a game seem a little more edgy. Personally, I think the City elf origin implied it enough, any more and I would have started to become extremely uncomftorable.

When the writing 1) railroads me into no-win choices and 2) strongly encourages me to bone every woman I meet, I have the right to call it immature. Literally TEN MINUTES INTO THE GAME I ended up having sex when I didn't want to.

TW2 devs are a pretentious lot.
I'm not sure if thats the case. I would be a little worried if they were like "Our game is ok but Bioware is awesome". They take pride in their game, which is a good thing.

I'm assuming you're talking about Triss. That encounter with her is entirely avoidable. I actually think all of the sex in the game is.
