Indeed..."Can you look cool while walking around with your posse? The answer is yeess, yes you can!" I loved the way he said that for some reason...he just sounded like such a dork >_<

or the

"the dog's not a mauler like he was in origins but.....he's awfully cute."

Like when I said "think like a general but fight like a spartan," but everyone ignored the general part and spent a quarter of a year freaking out about how they weren't going to get to wear shirts and would spend the entire game kicking dudes down wells?

Its because the "general" part of that was tied up in the Tactical Camera for the PC for many people. And how that was a large chunk of their enjoyment of DAO in being able to zoom out and separate the camera from being centered on one character. Add in how much of the early footage of combat at conventions looked chaotic as hell and how the consoles were getting extra attention and its all fairly reasonable I think.

Or when the Game Informer article that kicked it all off opened talking about how we wanted to keep the best parts of origins and change some other things, but everyone ignored the part about keeping?

Well....at least for me, 4 of the key things I loved in Origins was the toolset, iso view, non voiced PC and the characters (Morrigan, Warden, Old God Baby plot). So while the more recent footage is looking better, in my view, quite a few things that have kept me playing Origins still up to this day, are not there.

Thanks so much for putting this online for those of us who couldn't watch it live could still see it!

First thing is after the demo was turned off what ran through my head was I have that same hoodie, lol. I have to say that the demo was great. I was very happy at all I saw. The voice of FemHawke is good. Love the fact that helmets can be turned off, and also extremely happy with how the new buffs work. Rock Armor was awesome!!! This little sneak peak made me even more excited and obsessed than the overly excited obsessed individual that I was! (My hubby says thanks for helping me annoy him with Dragon age talk even more)

Thanks again for doing this!!

well one of those points was impossible for me to have due to my choice of platform, 2 of those i despise/dislike in old rpgs (i played them and loved their stories nevertheless) and the one point i actually like/love is pretty obvious which it is (the characters).

What platform was this demo'd on? I didn't see any mouse cursor so either DA2 supports use of 360 controller on PC or the demo was presented on console.

it was on pc, you could see the tool bar for skills in the low end of the monitor.

Aaah yes! That makes perfect sense, thank. But how come we didn't see the mouse cursor at all? Does this mean the game supports controllers other than keyboard & mouse, or did he do everything with keyboard only?

there's no controller support for pc version.
maybe it was a different monitor, and he was playing on another computer.

It probably means that video quality in the stream was not enough to see small, moving and lacking contrast cursor. Most of the time.

Some of these things (diversity, diversity, diversity, or the by-now-already-known-cross-class-combos) could have been on the marketing table from the very beginning. To give us a real sense of... you know, for example: The combat is faster, more responsive. But it's also more complicated if you want to play that way, more teamwork can and shall be used. That kind of stuff.

Like when I said "think like a general but fight like a spartan," but everyone ignored the general part and spent a quarter of a year freaking out about how they weren't going to get to wear shirts and would spend the entire game kicking dudes down wells?

Or when the Game Informer article that kicked it all off opened talking about how we wanted to keep the best parts of origins and change some other things, but everyone ignored the part about keeping?

I get why people freaked out. We didn't show the tactical intricacies of the new combat when we went out the gate, and I believe one of our first ever-previews talked about how we were like Ninja Gaiden, and you, could, like, totally kill some orcs or whatever. That was not the note I would have wanted to start from, in a perfect world, but such is life.

The simple truth, however, is that the intricacies you called out were not yet done in the early marketing. Thus they could not be shown, and explaining them is far less effective than demonstrating. Hence where we are today at the end of the run with a fair portion of the internet breathing a collective sigh of pleased relief, while a smaller section makes fun of my beard, or something worse. :P

It's hard to explain how much work went into overhauling the combat system; it's effectively a ground-up rebuild and yet, at the end of the day it still feels and plays very much like Origins, just faster and more responsive. Which was the goal the entire time, and something I think we managed to not lose sight of. I recently reviewed the original vision documents and presentations around Dragon Age II, and I could not be happier with what the team accomplished. We overhauled a lot, but the game is still very clearly Dragon Age.

I had to laugh to keep from crying every time I read someone complaining that the combat would end up absurd somehow; I did believe that you weren't going to change things as drastically as some people were thinking you would be. I finally started saying "go play Origins if you want to see DA2 combat" since all you said you were changing was how companions reacted in combat.

Love it a lot. Can't wait for the release. That will be a very long weekend with lots of beer and very few hours of sleep.

I saw about a dozen new animations in this. Isabela even picks up a drink and belts it down.

It looks like she's taking an impossibly short sip and pretending it's a full swig. Especially given how it looks like there's barely anything in the cup.

Everything is great, except Female Hawke's running animation. What is up with her arms? Sorry but it looks horrible and unnatural. Will avoid playing as her to stop myself from seeing that constantly.

This from dictionary.com

[nit-pik] –verb (used without object)1.to be excessively concerned with or critical of inconsequential details.–verb (used with object)2.to criticize by focusing on inconsequential details.–noun3.a carping, petty criticism.–adjective4.of, pertaining to, or characteristic of a nitpicker  or nitpicking.

Good one mate. In other news, don't ever try to do anything in any field that requires perfection to excel, because in these areas, "nitpicking" as you call it, is actually a good and positive thing.

I found the fact that Aveline was wearing armour but Carver wasn't somewhat immersion-breaking. Especially in combat where apparently not get chopped up all you need is a t-shirt and a herp-derp face. Why couldn't we have grabbed some chain-mail of one of the mooks we killed and given it to Carver? Grrr.

Other than, pretty awesome. Loving the cross-class combos and the force mage, and the look of Kirkwall in general...

@HolyAvenger Unfortunately you can't change the armor of party members. Its similar to the change from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2. You can attach runes and stuff like that but they're stuck like that until years pass and they change their looks on their own. I think you can only change Hawke's armor.

I wonder if Arcane Warrior will make a reappearance or be removed as Dual Swords were removed from warriors.

Arcane Warrior seems kind of redundant now.  Apparently there's mage heavy armor.  Or heavier, at least.

True. I wonder when they will reveal the rest of the specializations as they did with warrior in these past days. When is mage day coming? lol.

Mage Day should be tomorrow. For...blood mages because your heart pumps your blood and it's a valentines day symbol right? That was a labored attempt....still hopeful though. Also this live chat was fantastic cannot thank the dev team enough for playing it as Fem!Hawke it's nice to hear her and see that she doesn't walk like a man ^^;
