i'm probably going to end up with Anders as a permanent companion, at least if he is the only mage with the much needed healing spells.

I've been trying really, really hard not to just pick my party preemptively before I get the game. But my inner self is absolutely ignoring all reason.

It's sort of like . . . eating a candy bar when you know you're mildly allergic to chocolate. You're going to regret it later, but mmmmm, tastes so good . . .

With that said:

Anders
Carver/Fenris (depending on whether you get to keep your sibling past the opening of the game)
Varric

Well, since I don't know the characters yet I'm trying not to deside to much yet. But I have desided to have Bethany by my Male Warriors side through out most of the game. And I wan't to do the same with my Rogue Lady Hawke and Anders.

I haven't done any desitions with my Male Mage since I get a feeling that I will not like Carver so much. He sounds like a real dick. Hmm, maybe it's him after all?

with the rivalry system it seems even more interesting to have conflicted party members along. Just for the different opinions.

In da:o I fell into the trap of playing into whatever I felt the NPC wanted (something the designers have talked about). With the rivarly system it seems like you can play your character better and still don't miss out on stuff. Seems much better/fun to me

I like Aveline and Isabella so far but also our favorite dwarf so it will be hard to pick. Fenris seems like a tank so perhaps I will need him since I will play as a mage. I dunno.

I agree. This will be intresting.
Funny thing about DA:O was that they made most of the characters look like ice cold killers and psychos but when you played the game it turned aout that they where all nice and friendly. And the backgrounds, trying to make them look darker, didn't really work.

I think the only one that I will definitely keep will be Varric. But since I don't really know what any of the companions are like, that could change.

I hope not.

Why? Well, you really don't know enough about the party members yet. When I started my first playthrough I was sure I was going to include X in my party (name changed to protect the innocent). However, once I met up with her/him, I found out that he/she was much more of... well... much more of a dick than I was expecting. Since I was playing a "Mr Nice Guy" playthrough, I didn't want to use that character once I got to know them.

However, I was sure to use her/him in my next playthrough where I played as a total snotty bad-ass.

I urge you not to make up your minds till you play. The NPCs the team have made are not as "simple" as they seem. There are very distinct personalities here. :)

God i really wana know who you are talking about now, my guess would be varric.

I think i will always take bethany as i like the family aspect.

Image IPB I hope he isnt talking about Fenris, between the table slamming and the punch a guy through the chest though he seems to be a violent person. But thats just my first impression. It doesnt mean he'll be an evil jerk though...rightImage IPB?

Gotta spread the love, folks. Why limit yourself to three. Mix it up.

Yeah.

Rogue FemHawke, Isabella, Aveline and Merill or Bethany. I'm going to interchange the last two.

I don't have a specific party set up yet, but I have a vague notion of a character I want for certain areas. Aveline for the city, Merrill for the forest, and Varric for the deep roads.

In most any game I've played, my favorite companions are usually end up to be those I have met earliest on in the game and tend to keep those throughout most of the campaign. If a companion I meet later seems interesting, I will add them in place of one of the earlier ones. Once I get to know all of the companions, I'll take along some of those on a subsequent play through. But I won't plan on anything based on what little we actually know at this point, much less a 'permanent party'.

Well, if possible, I'm going to try and keep my pattern of all-female parties. So, other than the times I have certain companions forced on me, I'll have Isabela, Aveline, and Bethany. And I hope they turn out not to be awful people. I'm worried that Aveline might be a touch... hard... if you know what I mean.*

*NOT a double-entendre.

Seems to me the question should be "you've ALREADY planned a party". Doesn't make sense to me that you'd do this now.

Hmm not sure until I meet them. But if my Origins runs are any indication my female Hawke will be travelling with a group of men. Just to keep things balanced you know ;-)

So - possibly - Anders, Sebastian and Fenris. Maybe Carver too if he's nice to his sister.

Edit - because I seem to miss whole words out when I type

I'll probably be evil mage Hawke with 1 more mage and 2 dps

I'd like to skip the tank if possible, but we'll see.

All my plans on permanent parties are usually crushed very quickly. I'll just bring along those who make the funniest comments. Somehow i get a feeling that i will end up with Varric, Isabela ...aaand, i dunno, Anders perhaps.

Given that the game has gone from "Friendship/I Hate You and I'm Leaving" to "Friendship/I disagree but respect you", I'm actually hoping not to have a permanent party. It will be nice to use all of my party members and not just the ones who agree with me. That said, whoever my current Hawke has as a LI will be in the party near constantly.

I always rotate my party members out in both DA:O and in the Mass Effect games, and expect to do the same in ME2. It makes more sense from a story telling perspective if everyone in your party plays a role.
