But seriously, I'm most interested in Anders atm because of the Justice(Vengeance)/Anders situation, so regardless of who else I end up choosing, he is totally going to be in the group on my first run!!!! I'm also intrigued by Isabela after the live demo w/Mike today - it sounded like she's actually a fairly complex person with a conscience. I like Varric too and also want to see what happens with Aveline. Oh well, my Hawke shall interact with all of them and see what happens!
I think that out of all the DA:O/Awakening characters, Velanna is the only one I couldn't stand. Although I made nice with her and helped her on her character quest, I sort of tried to avoid her even though my Warden was her friend (found her too abrasive). I just hope there's no one with THAT much attitude this time. I have a sneaking suspicion that Fenris might though, but who knows, I hope to be surprised by all of them.

- I have to have Aveline in my party. She's the most interesting companion to me thus far.
- I loved Anders in Awakening and I'm curious to see his new direction, so most likely he'll be in.
- As for my rogue, I'm torn. Isabela has definitely struck an interest but so has Sebastian.
I might switch up Aveline with Carver from time to time, and since I'm already playing a mage I might switch Anders with whatever love interest I decide on. Isabela is going to be with a female Hawke and I'm leaning toward a male mage, so it likely won't be her.
So I don't exactly have a permanent party established, but I have the characters that I'm most interested to learn more about.

Please don't be Anders or Carver, please don't be Anders or Carver...Chris Priestly wrote...
Why? Well, you really don't know enough about the party members yet. When I started my first playthrough I was sure I was going to include X in my party (name changed to protect the innocent). However, once I met up with her/him, I found out that he/she was much more of... well... much more of a dick than I was expecting.
My money's on Carver what with the rivalry thing, but that makes me sad. You're family, Carver! Don't make it hard to love you.

Maybe Sebastion if he's a rogue, if not then Isabela
Fenris if I take Sebastion, if not then Anders

Male Rogue Hawke
Anders or Merril

Isabela or Fenris
3rd time:

Party members will select by how powerfully they played in my previous 2 gameplay!

I urge you not to make up your minds till you play. The NPCs the team have made are not as "simple" as they seem. There are very distinct personalities here.
I totally agree and not just because you are you but you actually make sense. On my first play in DAO i was still getting to know the characters so deciding on who i would stick with was decided more on what role i needed to be filled. Playing a mage i needed a tank which was either Shale or Allistair but as i got to know the characters more and more by around play 4 or 5 i had pretty much decided who stayed and who left. By play through 10 i had my party pretty much locked in with the occasional feelings of guilt which made me drag Sten out of exile but as far as Oghren, Allistair, Morigan and to a limited degree Zeveran there was not much guilt with the exile i imposed on them.
Morrigan was first on the chop block and as i did not know she could actually be booted from the party in Lotharin so for the next 10 plays i just left her in camp to rot. Kind of the same deal with Allistair, as the story advanced i found i did not like him either so both Morrigan and Allistair wound up just rotting in camp as i looked for the first opportunity to dump them. As far as Oghren and Zeveran there were characters that did thier jobs so much better that they more or less just rotted, not so much as in the case of Morrigan by being annoying, but that they were useless from the start and required serious inventment in order for them to be moderately usefull.
So considering my previous experience i believe it would be inaccurate to decide who is and is not annoying until i have put them through thier paces. Yes sometimes the annoying characters have a purpose if what makes them annoying is out of place with the character type i am running but not with another type, (there was no character type i could run that i did not find Morigan or Allistair annoying and easily replaceable) but that conclusion took about 4 or 5 plays to settle on. I will have to wait and see but i am sure there is in all probability one or possibly 2 wastes of space characters such as Morrigan or Allistair so i will have to answer this question at a later time.

I definitely want Anders, ermm, who else...Sebastian...Fenris...wait, that DOES totally work if I'm a mage - yay! it's going to be the all-male harem for my femHawke!
Haha! Now that I've heard Fenris speak a couple of lines, my party will consist of Fenris Fenris Fenris... Oh yeah, and those other guys too. ;P
I'm planning on a female Hawke mage, Fenris, Sebastian, and Anders trading off with Carver occasionally.

Sorry I got to agree wtih this statement, they have been really good showing bio's on the chars but not personas. I say wait and see as well. But to be fair some times in a rpg that annoying char skills is needed, what is it the marines say improvise, adapt, overcome. Sometimes getting the job done is better satisfaction then worring about annoying party members.

4. Aveline

The rogue will probably be Sebastian because I don't like the way Isabela and Varric look, but that could change as Chris Priestly said. What is sure is that I'm going to use 3 mages, the combat strategy goes before my personal preferences.

If there comes a time when I don't think I need 2 mages, i'll swap one out for Fenris.

Fenris is a gay emo elf, Carver has to die so that Bethany can live, Varric appears to be another comic relief character and Anders is a strange, queer and annoying dude that already pissed me off in Awakening and I won't take Isabella because I don't want anyone blinking, kicking vials and jumping around like an idiot...screw the new melee rogues.

I'll probably switch Varric out for Merrill (or Isabela) if I end romancing her.
