Liara in ME1 all the way - Ashley was too...grrr. For ME2, I have multiple playthroughs with both loyalty to Liara and changeover to Tali. I can't get into Miranda or Jack much though :\\\\

As for why? Even with the change to her personality in ME2, Liara is still very much the devoted, loyal and loving character she emerged as in ME1, just with less innocence due to the events of the game. Tali has always been Tali - cute, shy, gifted and always obviously very much in love with Shep due to how much he has done for her. Nevermind she's got enough spice too!

Intelligence and eloquence. They were my initial and very first impressions of Liara.

ME1: Nothing. They were simply there.

ME2: Same as above. The single exception exception being the shaved head and tattoos.

I'd be lying if I said looks weren't a factor. However the moment when Kaidan told Shepard that while he might have had a painful past but that he was fine and didn't need her to "fix" anything, I said, "Oh my gosh, a non-angsty ADULT. I am sold!"

Heh, I had a similar reaction when my Femshep pestered Jacob about the results ofhis loyalty mission, and he said right there that it wasn't going to work, and ended it! I was so happy to see someone who doesn't revolve around Shep's approval.

ME1:As soon as Ash said some poetry,i knew she was gonna be the LI even though i didn't really like either of the LIs.

ME2;To be honest,i didn't like anyone and i actually despised Miranda but as soon as she told me about her father and her past it all made sense. Then came the loyalty mission and i knew she was gonna be the LI for my shep for the rest of the trilogy.

I like Miranda for male Shep and Garrus for female Shep. They both carry themselves as Shep's equals and both overcome major emotional problems before the romance option presents itself. I feel weird about the other ones, either because they seem clearly defined as subordinate to Shepard or because they strike me as too emotionally vulnerable. So I'm weird.

Liara seems ideal for my Sheps, but having only experienced ME1 in comic form I'd feel like I took a shortcut. Maybe if I ever get a decent PC.

To be perfectly honest, initially, Liara seemed the only viable option for a FemShep, and I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the affair. After the first few conversations, however, I grew to appreciate the inherent sweetness of the relationship and by the end of the game, I was rather attached to her.

Having never played Bioware games previously, and ignorant of all the Fox News craziness, I played through ME1 without having a romance (yeah I only played it twice with one Shep as I was obsessed with Oblivion at that stage).

Fastforward a few years to ME2, there seemed to be some sort of crazy dialogue between me and Jacob, and he is rather attractive, and then night before the suicide mission - well you know the rest. I was totally clueless about any of the romance options up till then, so of course I had to go back then and replay ME1!

Jack has the prettiest face in Mass Effect. I don't care what haters say about her, she's a beautiful character.

I liked Ashley's candor and straight forward attitude but she always had a few character traits that I found a bit off-setting (and her religion wasn't really one of them - the bigotry of some posters is a bit dissapointing). Liara really doesn't do anything for me so that was that.

Switched over for the Tali romance in 2.

with Kaidan, it was the voice and his interaction with Joker at the very start. subsequent conversations and various soundbites from him as you play through the game basically sealed the deal. good looking man with a subtle sense of humor, slightly awkward when communicating about personal feelings with object of his affections, but has strong core values and not afraid to speak up to his commander about them, whether they match the commanders or not? sign me up.

of other LI's some match my other Shepard's better then others, but I was a lot more analytical when pairing up my other Sheps. Kaidan was "boy am I glad that he's actually an option :P "

ME1 - Liara. Blue aliens can give any man a hard-on, just ask the Illusive Man.

ME2 - Miranda. Australian accent and a sexy body, I couldn't resist.

Hn. Come to think of it, Jack was my first LI.

The first three were fine as buddies as were the other LIs in ME2, but I didn't really feel like overstepping my bounds. With Jack it was a relationship I really had to work on, and it paid off to earn just a little of her trust by seeing her with her guard down. The fact that she didn't just go fawn after you at the drop of a hat was a plus.

The first time I played ME1 I had no idea on how to romance people, and since I didn't even know where to find Liara I only talked to Ashley.

But my first intentional LI was Miranda. Why? Because of Yvonne Strahovski and her accent! ...and her smoking body.

Before calling me a bigot, I'd appreciate it if you got to know me first. :-)

I don't hate Christians (or any religion, really). I've simply found my personal beliefs to be largely incompatible with those of Christianity, so I tend to avoid strongly-Christian women out of respect for both of us. They don't need a person who will constantly question their beliefs with lengthy speeches, and I don't need a person prodding me to adhere to artificial constructs which I find illogical (which are really just two sides of the same coin).

It works out better most of the time, since the intimacy tends to drive those head-on confrontations, while friendships are far more pliant.

In ME1, my first choice was the only one who was not available (Tali). Her cheerful personality, willingness to help, intelligence, and I must say, her attractive body, made me fall for her.

Really happy to finally have her in ME2.

to me I always picked Liara. It may sound cliché that I picked the alien chick but hey thats how I roll. the reason why is that I liked Liara for her awkwardness, smarts, happens to have a "villain" as a parent and that she seems to be more supportive to Sheperd (mine anyway). and it's not that I hate Ashley or Kaiden infact I like the two it's just that for a Ashley as a love interest it's kinda boring and with Kaiden well 2 reason 1. I kill him all the time through my playthrough even though I don't like to. and 2. I've never went through the game with s femshep.

I don't really know but I was just drawn to Liara. She's the only character that I've been with too. Except from before LotSB came out..... I got around but never with Jack.

I'd just like to point out that in ME1, shep was old enough to be Tali's dad lol. They cought enough publicity with the whole "sex simulator" thing (total bull, still makes me facepalm.) I doubt adding "child pornography" to that would've been a good idea lol. Ash's attitude was way too.... for lack of a better term, conservative to me. (i'm don't mean in a partisan-pollitical sort of way, i don't want to be that guy who started the pollitical cluster-****) her bigotry was a huge turn off, and she had an annoying habbit of questioning my every move

are we really going to let these aliens walk free?

shouldn't we lock liara up?

why do we listen to the council?

why did you let me live?

ew, you're picking liara over me?

*sigh* i loved every time i got to use the "because im the commander, and i said so!" line

Hehe...what a journey. Wow, so long ago. Ash...she was my first LI, and only Li for the first game.

She was real. Bottom line. She had looks, beliefs, and she could shoot a gun. You could convince her to see eye to eye with you, etc. But the fact that she was soooo life-like attracted me to her. I mean, I've only come across a few girls like that in my life, but from movies and t.v. shows and all you could relate.

But...Everything that happened between 1 and 2...the whole Virmire thing...we're better off as friends. She changed...I changed.

Miranda needed saving...and so I stepped in. You see Miri break down and reveal her true feelings. She held a cold fascade because she needed too in order to survive and excel all those years. But, you start to become her rock...the only thing in her life that she can finally rely upon...

this is what made Miri so special. She trusts you, needs you...it's a relationship that can work...one that will last. If you were "dead" for two years, and finally pop up, working for an organization kind of against your will...then she would go along with you and believe you...not be 100% emotional about it.

I know too that Bioware had to handle things this way with Ash, but hey...situations happen like this in real life...so it works.
