I wasn't really spoilt for choice. I was playing FemShep, and I would happily sacrifice all sentient life to the Reapers to avoid shacking up with Carth... I mean Kaiden.

She's grown on me a lot in LotSB though.

Kaiden, I liked him from the start but honestly only went along with the romance because he was practically screaming ROMANCE ME, ITS WHAT IM HERE FOR. (his conversation slip around the beginning are cute but awkward if you don’t plan on romancing him) Also didn’t like Liara and she didn’t fit with my first Shep.
Although while I admit I only started the romance with Kaiden as a “oh why the hell not? they seem to want me too”<_<  thing. I ended up genuinely liking the guy and he is my favourite LI.
I like his sarcastic dead pan humor, his calm and thoughtful nature, he’s a little bit shy which I’ll admit is...cute, the fact that even when you romance him he is still relatively professional and sensible, he stable and I didn’t feel like Dr phill talking to him. ‘what’s this? a video game LI who has a trouble past but acts like and adult about it and doesn’t come across like they want to jump your bones?! Thank you Bioware! No more whiny arrogant knights and angsty half demons!’

Ashley, she is fiesty and has a very well written character, her romance is subtle and believable its not like...

Shep "Hi i'm Shepard and your my chosen love interest on the Normandy"

Ash " Great! Wait 2 seconds while I get my clothes off"

Granted non of the romances are quite like that lol, but hers just felt real.

first li was ashley, since i couldnt romance tal-tal, it was either her or liara. Bad news is, after lotsb, i realized more than ever that i made a mistake. good news is, i left her in a nuclear fire on virmire.which turned out for the best because i got my tal-tal li.

In ME2 Ashley got on my nerves, but I remember that I really liked her in ME1. It's as if Bioware wanted to annoy us enough so that we would try the new romances. (conspiracy theory)

On my first playthrough I really wished I could romance Tali. Then when I realized it's not possible, thought to maybe not romance anyone... But Liara had grown on me, she's exactly the type I nail irl, so Liara became my love interest.

In ME2 I romanced Tali, but then after LotSB I remained faithful to Liara. Her eyes in the conversations after you kill Vasir are just...

I choose Ash due to the fact she just felt right with the Shepard I played, but that can be said about any LI, it's how YOU play the game, this is a rpg after all! Image IPB

Same reason I chose Ash. She just fits with my Shepard, Liara doesn't.

Well Ashley is she and most of her dialogue is not codex narration, she's human and well written character.

I really really really liked Liara's face in ME1, simply beautiful. I'd rather romance Tali, though, but that's no option for FemShep. :(

with Kaidan, it was the voice and his interaction with Joker at the very start. subsequent conversations and various soundbites from him as you play through the game basically sealed the deal. good looking man with a subtle sense of humor, slightly awkward when communicating about personal feelings with object of his affections, but has strong core values and not afraid to speak up to his commander about them, whether they match the commanders or not? sign me up.

THIS. Love his looks, love his voice, love his personality

And this.
Best LI for us girls ever! The Kaidan romance was the most mature relationship I've ever come across in a video game. Jacob may seem to be a rather stable guy, too. He's not angsty or the joke cracking playboy type I hate most of all, but his romanec is just terrible. And I don't find men very attracktive who are so out of touch with their feelings that it makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Jacob's got serious emotional issues underneath all that outward easy going image. I have yet to go through with his romance. It's the only one I haven't finished yet because it's so bad.

I played a Femshep, personally I'm really not into slash/femslash so I didn't go for Liara, and Kaidan, well... it didn't feel right. I'd never hook up with a subordinate, and it was just awkward. So I had no romance in ME1 and I decided that my first playthrough would be non-romance throughout the trilogy.

...Then Garrus became an LI, and I couldn't resist. While I probably wouldn't have romanced him in ME1, I feel the two years between the games have allowed him to 'grow up' to Shepard and become her equal in a way none of the other male LIs were. I felt he complemented my Shep nicely, so now he's my 'canon' LI.

On my current playthrough, I'm romancing Kaidan and, while it still doesn't feel right, I decided to follow through with it and see if he grows on me by the end. With my Maleshep, I'll go for Liara, I think.

ME1 - Ash, she was different and annoyed me. Her love for poetry also attracted me.
ME2 - Miranda, she was the south pole to my north, pissed me off relentlessly and was always challenging. The ice queen thing also appealed to me.

And just because it fits the pattern...

DAO - Morrigan, also pissed me off so much and was just so different it was refreshing. She also had the ice queen thing going too so...

Basically, if they annoy me and ****** me off to no end then chances are I'll end up liking her a lot.

ME1 - I enjoy Bioware romances, so I don't usually go through the games without having one. Kaidan was there. Having Carth's voice was bonus. Not being Liara was an even bigger bonus.

ME2 - Was pining for Garrus all throughout ME1. Tall, graceful, male, super sexy voice, adorable personality.. simply irresistible. With regards to the 'male' bit, I'm still bitter that male Shep got two female options in ME1 and female Shep had only one of the opposite gender. If that F/F option had been someone more like Aria or Jack, though, I'd probably view it more positively.

It's pretty intresting to see how easy one would dump someone when it comes to love. But when you think about it, it's just a game =P

You don't like that?

Liara was always one of those "innocent, sexy looking cheerleader girl with no real personality" tropes that I hate, at least in ME1. ME2 fixed that, or atleast in LoTSB.

The first time I played ME1 with my main Shepard, I found Liara cute but way too easy to romance. I romanced Ashley because she's very tough but if you actually talk to her and get to know her, there's reasons behind it and if you're a full Paragon you can even persuade her to go against her negative views of aliens which makes the whole "Ashley's a racist" point moot.

She was never racist in the first place if you stop and listen to her.

She's just a very strong, passionate woman who's a bit of a softy at heart but you have to work to get at it. That's what made romancing her fun in my opinion.

^^ funny thing about Ashley is that if you take all racist conversation options, she tries to convince YOU of tolerance :) she's not racist, just cautious and not without reason.

Yeah, everyone hooks up with one in ME 1 and then another in ME 2. I say it takes a real man to stay loyal to your LI through the whole ME trilogy
