A quick experiment of mine. A lot of people on the BSN feared (how unusual!) that Clint Mansell, the new composer hired by Bioware for Mass Effect 3 would be unable to do 'tamer' (as in non-orchestral/epic) and electronic music. This assignement, N7: Abandoned Research Station, is the only mildly creepy in ME2, in my opinion. "I Am Sam Bell" is part of Moon's OST and although it's far from my favourite track, fits this assignment very well, I think. Some of you may have raised an eyebrow at me using a movie's OST on a game. Well, it's true that these hardly translate perfectly, but I think that in this case, the results are not disappointing.

Well, apart from the suicide mission, no other mission appears to be able to support such 'heavy' a track if you get what I mean. Death is the Road to Awe is one of my favourite tracks, but it's pacing could be supported by a movie, not a game. The SM may have a very good pacing, but I am unsure of using a rather melancholic track instead of an epic one for it.AwesomeName wrote...
Nice oneI'd ask for Death is the Road to Awe for another mission, like the suicide one, but that could be quite a pedestal?

Now just imagine a new, epic Mansell piece playing while the Reapers annihilate the SB base. We get to see a last glimpse of Liara's terrified face while the string buildup gets cued, right before she explodes... and then... fade to black...
Even the manliest of men will weep uncontrollably

You're right, they're basically just completely different for each other. In any case, I hope ME3's ending gives Mansell the opportunity to deliver that amount of emotional power
EDIT: In fact Road to Awe should just be left alone, because it's so special and tied to that whole scene!

You could probably make something with this.

From 5:00 on it could probably work over the SM cutscenes strung together. Or even just 6:30 on. Here's a request: I want to see the finals scene leading up Shepard's jump to the ship with the last minute or so of Death is the Road to Awe. I can be patient;)

Funnily enough, this kid did this months ago. The cuts are nice but the parts where he uses in game dialog aren't faded in an out properly. All in all good though. There's a bunch more out there, most made before Mansell was announced but they all use Lux Aeterna. A bit played out.

Based on requests, I applied Mansell's music on a cinematic cutscene. I have to say that I was a bit sceptical from the start and that the results -which I consider bad- were not unexpected. Cutscenes are choreographed, and the music for them fits perfectly because of that. It makes sense for music that was not made exclusively for this cutscene not to work too well.I'd like for my next experiments to be music used in gameplay, but feel free to post suggestions anyway.

The third experiment. Does Mansell's music fit the MEverse? This time I used Aftermath from the Smokin' Aces OST. This test is special since this mission is both heavy in combat and mini-cutscenes. Fits well, in my opinion, makes the mission a lot more 'tragic' to me. After all, several Quarian marines, scientists and Tali's father died on the Alerei. I'd say that this experiment is succesful.

I have to say, it's pretty neat done , but the new music seems to lack some of the unique characterization that the Soundtrack of ME1 and ME2 had, and that set the overall athmosphere of the Universe.
Keep in mind that the new music was not made for the MEverse.

the original Mass effect soundtrack had this classical 80 style sci-fi aura, that was something unique in these times.
