Archery did get much better in Awakening (where that video was taken) than in DAO, but even so, they were still hampered by the extremely slow special shots (like Pinning Arrows, etc) making most Archery skills in DAO pretty much useless (except Scattershot and Arrow of Slaying).

I love playing archers and can't wait to see how they've improved that weapon tree in DA2. :)

Did you see how fast he killed the high dragon? That is not awakening

That whole video was Awakening. The dragon they fought in the beginning was the dragon in Drake's Fell and the name of the video is "Dragon Age Awakening - Archers Own Nightmare".

I'm curious as to the build.  I see on the toolbar a few skills:

- Accuracy (obviously)
- Song of Courage (also a usual thing)
- Supressing Fire
- Something else I just can't recognise

Everything owns on nightmare in Awakening. Fun expansion, though non-existant difficulty.

I just beat Awakening a few minutes ago and compared my experiences to this video again. It turned out to be almost exactly the same and it's very easy to do. Here's the key issues:

- Party of as many Rogue Bards as possible (my 4th member was a Mage for versatility)

- Have them all use Song of Courage

- Accuracy is on constantly (new Archer sustained talent, purely focused on Dex)

- Weak Points (a light version of Mark of Death) is on constantly

That's basically all you need. The whole game plays like what this video shows...the enemies are usually dead before they even reach you or pull off a spell due to the sheer damage of your shots.

The video shows a few more things, like some special magical defenses (available in a mini-quest) for the final fight. Even without it, it'll be a 10 second fight instead of 5 seconds.

Awakening is considerably easier, but Rogue Archers improved the most for certain. Their new sustained abilities make them just so smooth to play. No need to micromanage any more.

One thing not shown is an ability called Strength of Stone. It basically gives you invincibility. It's great when you face those bosses that you know will grab you or cast an Area Effect spell.

And my understanding is that this isn't even the most powerful archer build in Awakenings!

If you want that, be a dex warrior archer and get take Spirit Warrior. Damage through the roof. Nightmare solo the game with your eyes closed.

You should try having aim on as well then

Once-upon-a-time, some kind soul made a great mod that turned DA:O archery a viable combat choice. Unfortunately, it worked only with v1.02 and he removed the mod many months ago.

I did an entire Origins playthrough with an archery specced rogue using this mod and had a blast. A few weeks ago, I finally installed Awakening and patched to 1.04. I had to remove my favourite archery mod so I could import my archer.

I went through the first opening battle at the Keep and gave up. I forgot just how terrible vanilla archery was to play...
