Technically Femshep could also have a kid with Liara.

umm... not without some really extraordinary intervention. We've seen Liara naked. She really doesn't have the equipment for that feat.

To have a sequel with a child would be enforcing a canon of some sort. And I really don't want to play as the child of Jacob, Kaidan, Ashley, and especially Liara.

After Mass Effect 3 find a new protagonist far, far away from Shepard and Co.

Actually it could be as easy as choosing from a list as part of character creation. Different partners just give a different bonus skill. Parents should not be part of the story, that just gets messy which is probably why we never get the option to visit mom.

I'm tired of playing as a human.

The design of ME "chatty protagonist" means there is only ever going to be one character. I'd certainly favour something more DA which allows a number of varied protoganists. But thats at the cost of them being "chatty".

Works fine in Dragon Age. The only other difference is that the character will always be refered to by a title rather than name. In DA you are always addressed as "Warden" or sometimes by your race.

There is so much they can do with the ME universe it would be a shame not to explore it, BW Austin is making a fully voiced MMO, so I don't think it is unreasonable if they took 2-3 years to make a ME rpg where you could choose between at least 5 of the races,

Shepard is probably my favorite protaganist of any video game I've ever played. But if the Mass Effect universe lives on beyond the Shepard trilogy, and I hope it does, it should have a new protaganist that is completely unrelated to Shepard. It is a big universe with billions of people living in Citadel Space. It would be a bit silly to have that universe's heroes always come from a single family.

That, and some of the romance options are incapable of producing children. Male Shep cannot have children with Tali because she's a different species. The same holds true for Fem Sheps that romanced Garrus or Thane.

The only downside in the "children of hero as a character" story, is that the parents, no matter how badass they are/were, always seem to get kidnap without fighting back or kill of screen with no real explanation.

I hope there will be a brand new character, new adventures, etc. But I hope, if there will be ME4, it will check your ME3 saves like Dragon Age 2. Not every decision but the main picture about the galaxy Shepard left behind.



And I also think we will meet major characters again in cameo roles, you will meet Shepard's ex-squadmates. For example:



Liara - she is young, she can live a thousand years, and she is the Shadow Broker now

Wrex - he is not so young but I think he can live a few more centuries

Tali - an old Tali could be an admiral or politian of the quarian people

Garrus - he could be a very experienced and feared spectre at this time, or a general of the turian fleet



Or you should meet not squadmate characters also, for example:



The Illusive Man - humans can live longer at this time and I think TIM has a few tricks to extend his life (from the Lazarus project for example)

EDI and the Normandy - if survives the ME3, EDI+Normandy could be also a "recurring character" in ME4

Aria - she is also an asari, not young but not too old now, and Omega has a huge importance in the galaxy



So, there are plenty of options to use a lot of characters from ME1-3, I don't think there is a need to a direct connection with Shepard.

If it comes to that, I will play the d#mn game and enjoy it. Probably not the back story of it, but if it is BioWare ME, it would need to be really bad for me not to buy it. (No, i would buy it anyway...)

But really i want to play as Geth. That would add just too many humoristic situations with out even trying.

Also, if you encourage Garrus to "forget the rules, just get the job done" possibly in ME4 Garrus is quite renegade and you may be forced to fight him. I think it would be an interesting turn of events.

I don't mind the protagonist connection. But I really think ME4 needs to get out somewhere unexplored and introduce some new stuff, or its just the same old races, which we have had for 3 games.



Take a leaf out of Stargates book and travel a bit.

If Bioware were to create other Mass Effect games beyond the Shepard trilogy, a great way to maintain a link between the two stories would be to use Liara. Assuming she survives Mass Effect 3 she could live on to remain the Shadow Broker for another 1,000 to 1,500 years.
 
As such even in a story set 500 or 1,000 years after the events of Mass Effect 3, Liara would be one of the most important people in the galaxy and a possible source of information for the new protagonist.

A more likely avenue for a Shep-descendant would be if TIM swiped a few cells early in Project Lazarus and grew a clone, just in case the whole re-animation thing didn't work out.



It's not like any gamer with anything resembling a sense of taste actually went through with any of this "romance" claptrap...
