Pretty much this. Box art is not for existing fans. They already know what the game is about. Its about a flashy picture that attracts browsers in the game store.

Agreed. But that's totally not how marketing works. :P

It's nice as fan art, but it doesn't have that ME mood in it.

Neither does the official ME2 box-art, if you ask me.

I think theres enough ME2 stuff in there. Grunt is 100% ME material. So is Shepard.

Maybe they decided to save this one for ME3? ;)

The CE box for ME2 was really awesome, but the one picked for the regular edition in the end really quite disappointing. I hope it'll be awesome all around for ME3.

I think the reason i dont like the previous mass effect cover arts, is they are complicated to a degree. I prefer a simple yet very dramatic box art. Call me stupid but i like them like that

I wouldn't. Essentially what you're saying is that EA can treat you like a fecal matter and not even pretend to care for its customers, yet you'd be fine with it? Wow...

I for one, expect a decent cover. If I see one more lone "awzome" soldier in a grayish warzone background, they can forget a CE copy from me.

Yeah it's really nicely done, but I want a cover that screams when I hold it in my hands

Well EA surely wouldn't do that.
It's bad for marketing.
I mean who would buy game with no cover art if not already fan of it's franchise?

Mass Effect 1 had a really nice box. Mass Effect 2's box didn't capture the entire game. I hated the ME2 box art so much I bought the CE instead.

Yup, I very much prefer the CE box-art when it comes to ME2.

I like it, a lot, props to the artist it is really good - its just not what I think that ME3 represents though and I really do mean that in the nicest of ways. Yes once again the reapers are focusing their attention on humanity but they represent a greater threat that encompasses nearly the entire galaxy. Half of the game will be gathering allies, earth will be saved for later (it has to be). The story wouldn't make sense otherwise. It's like how in ME2 the first thing that had to happen was the Normandy getting destroyed so that you could get the new and better SR2. You only launched your suicide mission when you were certain you could complete it. Its been the hallmark formula of every BW game to date.

So yes, Shepard is earth's only hope but Shepard's story in ME is so much bigger than that. Add to the fact that its the final act to one of the greatest space sci-fi trilogies of all time and... give us a spaceship or something at least! These days cover art of a scorched earth torn by battle are a dime a dozen.

Still, BW, get this artist a job. He/she has talent!

I miss the times that CoD was respected as a series. It only took a single game to title it as a stupid and mindless shooter. Also, all of the covers are great.

Yeah, it doesn't fit too well. It still gives the mood partially due to the background if you ask me. But personally,
ME1 Standard Edition>ME2 Collector's Edition>ME2 SE>ME1 CE

^How about we talk about Call of Duty as whole franchise NOT only 2-3 games?

Also World at War has many box-arts.

Why? The most recent ones have these covers and every other FPS are copying these..not those you posted. So I dont want ME 3 cover to look like that pic in OP because it looks like another copy of some recent FPS. I would like something more like space opera and not "lone soldier on earth" I see everywhere these days.

Babli, I really like 4/5 of them, I don't get your point. Regardless of in-game content.

I am obviously not a fan of FPS games so its obvious I dont want cover that looks like from Call of Duty 23.

I'm not asking for that.
Also did Black Ops did same cliche?

There's 9 CoD games( 3 only on Playstation 2&3) + CoD 1 Expansion United Offensive( still my favorite CoD game) + many CoD games on hand held consoles/platforms.
