Sex sells.  That is not a new concept and if you have suddenly just realised this then welcome to the waking world.

Personally I always thought Tinkerbell was worth a good seeing to... even when I was eight years old!
Hot Tink Pics!

Yes I am being both sarcastic and pointing to a reality.

It also irritates me that most people that appear on TV are very attractive.

To sexualize simply means to make someone sexual. Morrigan in Dragon Age was sexualized. Thane was sexualized. Yes, that can become caricature both only if it dominates the character.

Sure. It depends on the primary aspect the artist wants to enhance. Isabela is a clear example of enhancing the sexual aspect, making the same "dominate" the others.

Other characters enhance other aspects and doing so they become "caricatures" themselves (if the enhancement pertainst to a style representing this enhancement mostly), for other dominating aspects, but people complain only on the caricatures having to do with sex (either if they don't comprehend it at first sight).

Also in art it happens this way, sadly, for certain cultures.

I agree with this.

I don't think Isabela is overly sexualized. I think she's just right about sexualized for Isabela. There are other woman in the game who aren't sexualized and even Isabela, while being overtly sexual, is not a shallow character. What I like about Isabela is that she's sexual for herself. It's not like Morrigan and Leliana where their sexuality was often just a tool to manipulate men.

In popular portrayals of female sexuality, women are never simply allowed to be lusty like men and desire a simple roll in the hay. It's always them trying to control/seduce/betray men.

There are certainly women like that, and if it fits the character concept I don't have an issue with it. It certainly fit both Morrigan and Leliana (Leliana only in her past, though).

But I can see it being a concern if you never see the other side of it. Isabela seems to be the other side of that coin.

1) There are those that agree with him that we are still discussing it with (read: dogpiling on)

2) We're talking about sexy women. I see no reason to stop. Image IPB

I don't think any women I've seen are 'overly' sexualized. Some are sexy, yes, but not overly so. Something I would describe as overly sexualized is that Dead or Alive Volleyball game. Its main selling point are sexy girls. DA2 is a RPG and it is marketed towards RPG fans. Doesn't mean there can't be some attractive people in it. >.>

I have known quite a few women in real life who are very sexual people, in much the same way as Isabela (minus the swords and gushing blood)... and if you poor boys think women don't scrutinise you and evaluate you based on purely sexual/physical terms then you need to start watching and listening far more then you obviously do. Many cultures focus on the posterior or breasts or legs, some on ear lobes and in some tribal cultures males must prove their value sexually (pegging to name one, makes my eyes water thinking about it... a women in that culture wouldn't even consider you sexually without the peg). To deny sexuality is stupid and just as dangerous, if not more so.

There are cultures where pegging is used to prove male sexual value?

Denying that we are a sexual species would be almost as stupid as claiming that Markets Act Rationally.

I admit I really dislike the femhawke from the video, especially the walk. I much preffered the more realistic walk from dao that everyone was calling a man walk. And I wish there was a toggle for 'I'd prefer an ideal of a woman to be defined by her being powerful and capable like the ideal for guys in, instead of the ideal for ladies being how great they can look' that made you much buffer and walk like an adult instead of the weird little girl walk they put in.

....still gonna play the game tho. I'm weak.

The issue with Isabella's breasts is that she is clearly using powerful antigravity magic.

Anyone built like that would need significantly more support than she has. She cannot fight in a corset. In fact, with anything less restrictive than an athletic bra, she is going to have issues with her dual wielding fighting style.

Are you serious? The only character that is remotely over-sexualized is Isabella. Everyone else is fully clothed and have there bodies have good proportions.Even then sexuality fits Isabella's nature because she is a pirate chick. There are like a billion other games that exploit the sexuality of their characters more than DA 2.

Her run was very realistic.  I know many women that run and walk exactly like that.

Its really sad to see people drooling over sexy pixels but it is also sad to see other people nitpicking over the art style. Isabela has a certain style which fits her character. Nothing more, nothing less. She is constantly teasing and doesn't give a nickel about rules, probably traits of character she uses to conceal other weaknesses.

I think it fits her fine. Now if you look at the screen and go "omg rude boobies and skin-tight clothing!!1111one" instead of actually tie the way she looks with her character and place in the story, then its your own fault.

Bottom line: Drooling about looking for porn in a bioware game is bad. Acting like a "pudique" over a video game is also bad. Middle line ftw. I honestly like to see female characters who look sexually appealing without being total tramps. Is it wrong? I dont think so. I bet the fangirls like sexy male leads as well.

To the OP, as a man, I tend to agree with you. Granted it has something to due with my personal christian faith, but just as a vid game lover, devs seam to do this just because they can. To be honest, Bioware is more 'respectful' than many studios since their overly sexualized characters have a reason for being such. I.E. it may fit their character more.

From an art perspective, it is just insulting to have 90 percent naked women running around for no other reason than looks, or to appeal to some 14 y/o kid's unrealistic fantasy of what a woman should look like. Let's not get started into how these 'perfect' looking females give a completely unattainable standard that makes women feel inferior.

As a straight female (just for clarification), I don't really even have a problem with Izzy's cleavage; it's the lack of pants that bugs me. Not because it's too sexual, but because it looks ridiculous when fighting. If we get a toolset, I'm definitely going to be looking for a pants mod.

Maybe she lost all her pants when she lost her ship?

While very much impossible and financialy unfeasable....a toggle would be ideal...IMO.

She is a very confident/strong pirate who will use anything and everything to get the upperhand in a battle
And using her body to distract men in battle is a great way to do just that

Dont complain if you dont have a good reason or a constructive way to improve the clothing.

How desperate of a man do you have to be to get distracted sexually during a battle?? :?

The distraction could commence way before the battle even begins. The man stares at her breasts while he's doing that, she takes out a knife and stabs his neck.

Wait. 90% of DA2's women are naked and running arround for no reason? Cool.

Also, with the risk of sounding shallow, something you might find attractive is potentialy ugly in another person's view and vice versa. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I pretty much doubt video games set standards in how women should look like. They are fantasy games. Following that logic, your average fantasy story which portraits princesses as the epitome of blondish beauty and perfection is a insult to real women. C'mon...

If a certain woman feels inferior because how some chick in a video game looks like...im sorry to say, that woman has issues more deep than mere looks alone. I mean, you know...real woman have the distinct advantage of being...uhhh..real. Aggravated inferiority complex steams not from video games, and allow me to say that without a pshychiatrist degree.

Also keep in mind that this game's rating is "MATURE". You are all taking about how sex appeal is insulting and shameful compared to the heads flying arround and rivers of blood and guts spilled on every inch of ground your character walked on.

No, they didn't...really? I'm not watching those because it wasn't helping me convince myself to try the game. I almost never play females in video games because they look and move so ridiculously, so I was thrilled when my female Cousland walked like a fighter. I thought she minced a little when she ran, most of the time, but I could live with it since she wasn't swinging her butt all over the place. If they changed that, it's another disappointment.
