See finally the voices or reason are entering these conversations! I personaly want to play Valkyries...thats what I like...they made Lady Hawke exactly the opposite...shes so ridiculisly feminine now...I can't take anything about her seriously. Her voice is far too innocent sounding her idle motions make her look like a schoolgirl on a playground.errant_knight wrote...
No, they didn't...really? I'm not watching those because it wasn't helping me convince myself to try the game. I almost never play females in video games because they look and move so ridiculously, so I was thrilled when my female Cousland walked like a fighter. I thought she minced a little when she ran, most of the time, but I could live with it since she wasn't swinging her butt all over the place. If they changed that, it's another disappointment.Eveangaline wrote...
I admit I really dislike the femhawke from the video, especially the walk. I much preffered the more realistic walk from dao that everyone was calling a man walk. And I wish there was a toggle for 'I'd prefer an ideal of a woman to be defined by her being powerful and capable like the ideal for guys in, instead of the ideal for ladies being how great they can look' that made you much buffer and walk like an adult instead of the weird little girl walk they put in.

That's odd, I love the female form, but it was Issy's facial features I noticed first, probably because I was comparing it to her facial features in DA:O.Browneye_Vamp84 wrote...

To be honest, Bioware is more 'respectful' than many studios since their overly sexualized characters have a reason for being such. I.E. it may fit their character more.
From an art perspective, it is just insulting to have 90 percent naked women running around for no other reason than looks, or to appeal to some 14 y/o kid's unrealistic fantasy of what a woman should look like. Let's not get started into how these 'perfect' looking females give a completely unattainable standard that makes women feel inferior.
Wait. 90% of DA2's women are naked and running arround for no reason? Cool.
Also, with the risk of sounding shallow, something you might find attractive is potentialy ugly in another person's view and vice versa. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I pretty much doubt video games set standards in how women should look like. They are fantasy games. Following that logic, your average fantasy story which portraits princesses as the epitome of blondish beauty and perfection is a insult to real women. C'mon...
If a certain woman feels inferior because how some chick in a video game looks like...im sorry to say, that woman has issues more deep than mere looks alone. I mean, you know...real woman have the distinct advantage of being...uhhh..real. Aggravated inferiority complex steams not from video games, and allow me to say that without a pshychiatrist degree.
Also keep in mind that this game's rating is "MATURE". You are all taking about how sex appeal is insulting and shameful compared to the heads flying arround and rivers of blood and guts spilled on every inch of ground your character walked on.
Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean DA2, I meant those games that do that. I do infact have an issue with certain fairy tale princesses have extremely unatural proportions. Someone did a study on what disney princesses would really look like and it is simply unattainable(even downright comical, pun intended). Like it or not, media creates role models. I applaud companies like Dove that have gone and shown just how much work and falsifying it takes to take a pretty woman and turn her into a perfect looking barbie doll.
I already stated that Bioware, at least the DA series is better than most because it's women dress for a reason. We all know this is the exception rather than the rule. It cuts both ways where male heroes in games have perfect bodies that 99 percent of the world could never, ever attain. Look at the character models for SSF4. They are not only unrealistic, they are just plain ridiculous. Gouken...really...the guy is 60 years old and looks like the incredible hulk on steroids.

C'mon, Bioware's not exactly a problem among the many developers out there. Varric's exaggeration of bust size is for humor purposes, not just fanservice, so there's nothing to complain about there either. With Isabela, she's just that type of character. Both of them show a little cleavage, it's just who they are, the flirty and roguish types, not how every woman in the DA-verse is.
I'm usually annoyed by this kind of thing, but in the case of DA2 I see no reason to gripe whatsoever. Look at Aveline!

oh good grief...IT.IS.NOT.A.BAD.THING....it is an opinion...because I prefer to play warriors...and I find feminine female warriors odd and out of place. When I play a female warrior I want her to basicly be like Aveline...if I play a female Mage...I want exactly what Bioware has provided...if I play a Rogue (which I never do but regardless) I would want an Isabella type character. (minus the types of clothing). This does not mean the whole concept of girls being girly are bad...it just just an opinion I am stateing based on how I LIKE TO PLAY.Yrkoon wrote...

What? When did I say that? What I said is that I want my PC's to move like the fighters they are. If you see video of a group of soldiers in battle dressed in full gear you can't tell who's male and who's female. They all move like soldiers--going from point A to point B as efficiently as possible. The female soldiers aren't sashaying around like they are in most video games.Yrkoon wrote...

Yes.
Look, OP, I was one of the people who was making a nuisance of myself waving banners around and trying to get the devs to shrink down the bust size for the female models. Why? Because I thought it was exploitation and needless titillation. I thought it did come at the price of the story's integrity.
And they scaled down the bust size for the female models. I won't presume to say any of us had something to do with it, but no matter what the reason was, I'm glad they did. I think we've reached that level between sexy and strong. Isabela is a sexy, strong character. I wish she'd put on pants, but I'll just have to wait to mod it in. Every other character sin't overly sexualized.
So I'm not complaining. I'm really happy, actually. The exaggerated part was something this forum suggested pretty early as a possible explanation for the size of Bethany's knockers, and we all thought it would be funny. We also knew that wasn't (always) the case, because we had post-exaggeration pictures as well. So, I think Varric's exaggeration of a gritter, bluddier, sexier Hawke and Co., is really funny. Makes me wonder if he has a crush on Bethany, since it doesn't seem to effect Hawke.

There are several things I just want to point out:
I am NOT some prude/anti-sex/girls-have-cooties type of guy. In case you didn't learn it at some point in your life, there's something called "SUBTLETY". There's having a beautiful woman who is proud of her body and likes to show a little cleavage and maybe some tight clothing and than there's just all out breasts threatening to fall out of shirts and skirts that cover the legal bare minimum.
Also, what does that say about Isahella's character? And this whole "Oh, she wears that because it fits with her character" is SUCH B.S.!!! Stop Using it! You and I both know BW dressed up Isabella like that to sell a few more extra copies to those horny losers that "ooo! big boobies!" would appeal to.
Think about it for one damn second. You're really gonna dress up like that when your day to day life takes you in to such dangerous places? Does Isabella really want to walk around like that so she can arouse every single man in viewing distance? You know how much of an inconvenience that would be? Don't you think if that actually happened in the medieval times, a woman would'nt be able to walk past any village without having to fight off several rape attempts and other attempts by men trying to take advantage of her?
Or maybe you guys don't care because you'd rather see a woman with "ooo! Big boobies! Soo hott!!" rather than have a character who has a little bit more self respect than that.

Hah well..I think SSF4 is not really that good of an example. As a gym rat type of guy..i have to say most characters look plain ugly. Huge muscles, and huge WTF feet.
But anyway, point taken. The overall media certanly has an effect on how people see themselves. That being said, I still think its plain silly to consider yourself inferior to a imaginary character. Hell you might see a chubby girl considering herself inferior compared to Random Miss Universe bla bla bla (and only beauty wise)....but a fictional character? I LOVE the DBZ anime series for example, but i dont think i've ever compared real life people to Goku
