Why does FemShep's voice have to sound 100% feminine? That's what my voice sounds like and I still put on nice dresses and act like a woman. I loved that about FemShep. There was just enough feminine in her voice for her to be a woman. She didn't sound all mannerly and delicate, she sounded like a soldier. It's kind of annoying that people think that the voice isn't woman enough as I'm 100% female and have that same low voice. I thought it was a nice change of pace from all the pretty girl voices I usually get in video games.
And I didn't find that they didn't let us know that she was female. She may be a little more masculine than usual but that's what I expected from her. And I was glad that they didn't change the scenes to make it more feminine. I loved the scene on Virmire where she punched Saren in the face and then carried her injured friend to safety. Femshep was everything I've wanted from a female character in a video game. I don't think anything can outdo her in my mind.
I don't mind Lady Hawke's voice though. I like it, in fact. But nothing can ever compare to FemShep's voice for me.
Pretty much this. FemShep's voice is perfect for the character she is. FemShep is also older and more experienced than Lady Hawke seems to be (according to the timeline in the codex, Shep was about 30 during the first ME), not to mention a very direct and no-BS kind of character no matter how she was played, really.
None of the lines that we have heard for Lady Hawke are ones that really show what kind of power she may or may not have in her voice. But so far, I like.

Lol, I think we are both right and both wrong. According to this: masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Codex/Humanity_and_the_Systems_Alliance, Shep is 29 during ME1, and 31 in ME2.

I believe it was: "Can I get you a ladder, so you can get off my back!?"
That was such an irritating voice...I hope none of the in battle phrases end up like that in this game <_<

Not Bastila Shan(Jennifer Hale) kind of disappoint, meh.
I love Hale but I am glad it's not her. Oversaturation is not a good thing. She's already female Shepard, why should she be female Hawke as well?
Why not?
Jennifer Hale can do wide range of voice acting, not to mention she is probably one of the best VA.
It not rare for the same VA to voice major character in two different Bioware games(i.e.Raphael Sbarge.)
Why not use her when she is doing it so well?
That said, I am okay with LadyHawke's voice, just disappoint because its not Jennifer Hale.
Sbarge doesn't voice both the male player characters for BioWare's two currently running IPs.
I am not saying Hale is incapable, just that there's no real reason to use her when she's also femShep right now.

Shepard was indeed 29 during Mass Effect. In Mass Effect 2, he/she's chronologically 31, but probably biologically still 29.Melmo44 wrote...

LadyHawke is fine. Her voice is fine. Maybe we should play the actual game first before we judge, or wait for the demo at least. Goodness gracious! You Hale fans are ridiculous. I feel funny even saying that because I'm a Hale fan as well, but not to this extent. My gawd. <_<Felene wrote...

That Hardened tone worked good with FemShephard but this is FemHawke. She was a citizen of Lothering and we don't know much about her past yet. And she is younger than FemShep soo she has to have her own tone and I think it fits her.

Definitely this. I love Hale, and her VA for Shep was one of the keys reasons I loved my character so much- it just fit. That said, Hawke is not Shep, or Bastila, or anything like the two (probably). She's brand new, and I'm glad we've got a brand new voice to go with it.
Also, as far as Sbarge's VA- I think someone may have said it- but he didn't do two main characters for sister games. We were all well through with KOTOR and Carth (aside from occasional nostalgic playthroughs) by the time Kaidan made an appearance. Having the same VA for the major character of BOTH current games would get a bit irritating imo.

I'm still in the camp that prefers my characters without a voice. FemHawke will be ok, I suppose, for a character I am controlling, but it won't be me RPíng in the game. Since I prefer to play women I guess I'll just have to get over the urge to smother her in kittens and choke the voice out of her.

Ick. I wish it were more authoritative. I loved playing in-charge Commander Jane Shepard. I don't want to play a lilting, passive flower.
I hope it grows on me.
Well I personally dislike FShep's voice because it wasn't sensitive and elegant enough for the character I wanted.
SO I GUESS I GET IT LUCKY THIS TIME. HAR HAR DE HAR NYEH NYEH
Well... that's nice for you, I guess? Did I say that the voice was a terrible voice? It's not; it's very pleasant to listen to. Did I say that all female characters should be like Shepard? Obviously not. However, I was looking forward to playing a take charge, no BS character similar in some ways to Paragade Shepard. It suits my playstyle, just as a sensitive and elegant character suits yours, apparently.
Also, passive flower? Just because she speaks like that... oh em gee... <_<
You mean, just because her voice is pretty neutral? I think it's less that her voice is soft and more that the "nice" options aren't what I expected. I had assumed I would be picking them, but now maybe not. Maybe the aggressive options will sound better to me, who knows.
I admit, "passive flower" was hyperbole brought on by irritation and disappointment that this voice just doesn't match my favorite, best-developed idea for Hawke. I shouldn't have said it, as "flower" invites negative views of femininity and was out of line. There's absolutely nothing wrong with either approach to female characters, and I'm sorry I implied that. I'm just a bit put out that the voice wasn't what I wanted.
By the time the game comes out I'll be fine with it, but for now it sucks to go back to the drawing board because I really liked that character.
Apologies for being kind of a jerk about it.
Edit:

They specifically picked for maleHawke the aggressive response when he responded to the Carver "templar rant". So you can hear what he sounds like when he means business. We don't know what she sounds like when you pick her aggressive response wheel spoke...thing, do we?
Are we saying we want her to sound like she wants to beat the snot out of everybody even when she is making normal conversation, or a snarky rejoinder or God Forbid...when she is flirting?

It did come across that way didn't it? What can I say? I'm allergic to sweet little girl voices. I can't watch any movie with Melanie Griffith in it either, because I loathe her syrypy little-girl voice. It's all about context and expectation. If femHawke's voice was used for a child in Lothering I'd like it well enough. It doesn't mesh, for me, with what I expected from a fighting woman and is so far removed from my voice and accent that I know I will be controlling a game instead of playing a character.
I really hope Bioware will release a toolset for DA2 so we can mod our own voices if we wish.
