To be honest, I couldn't care less who plays a voice role.
As long as they're GOOD.
I understand why voice directors would rather go with tried and trusted voice actors/actresses. You're pretty much guaranteed a great performance and they know what they're doing. On top of that, they are popular and people will recognize them and know what said character will sound like(if they find out who voices who beforehand)
But if there's an amateur no-name out there with the perfect voice for a specific character, I'd be giving them direction so they can become one of those widely known voice actors/actresses.
Then again, maybe I'm biased. I'm no voice over director. I'm just a no-name voice actor with all of my proof of work(little bit that there was) either unreachable or destroyed.
Caroline Livingstone knows multitudes more about how to handle voice acting than I do, thus I'd have to believe whatever she'd say.
If I were to audition for a role(which I've been wanting to do yet STILL CAN'T. Damn it all) and she were to tell me I'm flat out horrible, I'd be inclined to believe it. Then I'd try to get better.
If I'm doomed to never land "that role" that secures a good impression on the voice over directors of the World, then aww shucks.
Trying and failing is better than not trying at all. So far, I haven't been able to try.
I plan to correct that.
