This accent is not posh, it is a well-brought-up eloquent English accent full of clarity and feminine grace, and how most English women should talk if they had been better educated.
A posh accent, that rightfully earns the disdain now associated with "poshness" would be a "frightfully" posh accent. One that uses posh expressions and spoken from the back of the throat.
Bioware have rightfully opted for European accents (Orlais: French Leliana) for a fantasy game because they sound right to the ear. American accents sound too modern and break immersion.
My disappointment was Isabella's voice seeming miscast, from her appearance and name, I thought she would have a more exotic Spanish accent.
Isabela's VA was probably chosen to sound fairly close of the original (Mika Simmons) so as to not horribly break continuity. That said, seeing as she is Rivaini I hope there is some kind of explanation for her accent and why it sounds fairly Fereldan.
A think a lot of the critiques over poshness come from the fact that someone from Lothering speaks with a fairly-pronounced RP accent (it'd be more accurate to say it was an educated middle-class accent than an upper class one). It isn't that shocking once you factor in things like having a mother from the nobility (who would probably be concerned with her children "speaking properly") and possible childhood segregation due to the apostate mage connection (Bethany and their father, if not Hawke her/himself). I'm a big fan of the voices of both Hawkes, but I will be playing Fem!Hawke first.
My Media Blackout has now come to exclude this thread. I hope nobody posts any major spoilers here.

^^ I was about to edit my post because I had just remembered her appearance in origins.

Hear, hear! Me too (about MBP).
I also adore Fem and Male Hawke's voices. Still having a hard time figuring out who Fem Hawke is. Can't one of the BW 'ones in the know', drop a few 'real and cryptic' hints? Go on.... or just rule out that this VA was in the ME series......
funny how isabela and bethany have bigger breasts than femhawke and those ugly robes again !! no plz don't...
How is it funny? Is there no such thing as variation in breast size? Or does having huge breasts somehow have a place in the story of how she becomes champion, so much so that she needs to be significantly more well-endowed than anyone else in the game?
I for one am so very grateful that they haven't given her huge honkers ala Isabela and the like. Honkers are nice and all but I'd rather they didn't litter the screen 24/7.

That is a bonus of unique bodies for companions - variant breast size. It is nice to see some variety among the companions' body shapes, from Isabela's curves to Aveline's muscled arms.

Honestly, its funny - I'm not really too bothered about finding out her VA now. I mean I wouldn't complain if someone figured it out or a dev flat-out told us. But for me the issue is really finding them out before you hear them, simply to get an idea of the range and scope and tone. Now I've heard her, who her voice belongs to is something I can wait for.

I take it all back. If she is from Lothering she should sound like this...
Now that would be amazing. Regardless, I still think M!Hwke should have been voiced by Jowan, seeing as he seems to have been at least half the Lothering populace.

The RP accent is originally from the south-east of England, and was spread out throught public (read "private" if you are American) schools to be taught all over Britain in an effort to create a uniform accent. Unfortunately, as it was only taught to those able to afford an education, it became associated with the ruling elite. This is why some people will call the accent "posh" and some "educated." These days RP is a region-neutral accent but definitely implies a priviliged upbringing.
England has a range of regional accents, but if Hawke is from the edge of a large area of marshland, he/she should probably have a Norfolk accent...
...although that wouldn't sound particularly heroic. Probably best to stick with RP...

True that, I just like to have something to 'kvetch' to Bioware about
I think it would be spectacular for Hawke to sound like he/she is from the West Country. That's the most heroic voice you can get! Even better if done by Bill Bailey.

Lolz @ people who add me to creeper list for joking about posting a pic of my beautiful eyes.
As for FemHawke, dem eyes are niiiiiice. Christ, this is about her voice though.
It's just that you're getting behind, maaaan ~
Chicks don't like eyes anymore, they like MANLY MAN. Show your chest hair, grow a beard, cut down some trees and make bears your b******!!!! Or turn emo, that works too.

Haha yes, this. It's funny, I was born in Norfolk, raised in Devon, yet I speak with RP. Guess me and Hawke have something in common already.

Just watched the voice video for about the 10th time! Still smiling like crazy! [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/happy.png[/smilie]
All those worries I had of what I thought was a virtually impossble task have been thrown out the window. Although its a shame that I only now have become really excited about the game. But hey better late then never!!

I just watched this and I can't make up my mind which is funnier, the video or some of the comments underneath...specifically the guy who actually thinks thats English being spoken with a Geordie accent rather than just sims style gibberish
Anyway, back on topic, was loving FHawkes voice in the live chat I normally always play the Male character in these games as I find it easier to think of that character as an extension of myself and basically treat the main character as if it was me. Now though I'm not sure, I really like the sound and overall look of FHawke but I always struggle to play female characters because I tend to still try and RP my way through the game as if it was me, which usually feels weird.

Embrace your ass-kicking feminine side .

I'm very very happy with how Marian sounds =) First time I heard her speak I felt a little weirded out (for all this time I've been trying to tell myself she's not gonna sound like Jennifer Hale, it's surprising how weirded out I felt!). Second time, I felt intriguied. Third time, I closed the live chat so as to not get any more spoilers and felt this warm feeling. Hasn't gone out yet ^^

Reading that, I immedietly felt a sudden rush of "please let LadyHawke be capable of supporting Aveline through her hardships and then give her a new happiness of their own". God, I'm damaged goods =D
