The most broken Dragon Age Game Ever

Hello all.

I have recently been continuing a play through of DA Origins of a game I'd had saved for awhile.

Specs:

Region 1
Xbox 360 regular copy of the game (not CE)
NO CHEATS USED, MODS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT- Pure, unadulterated game ONLY.

The things I mention will contain SPOILERS, but I figure if you're in here, then you're way past worrying about them.

These are the things that happen in my game consistently:

PROBLEM 1---for about four hours, both of Leliana's arms were first stuck holding her weapons, even after both of the others and myself put ours away. After a fight we would then go through a door and her weapons would be away, but her arms would be stuck out as if she was leading someone on a dance floor.

Her arms were even stuck like that in every single cutscene as well(suddenly the problem went away after about four and a half hours of playing in all different areas- went through some door somewhere, and poof- Leliana's arms were back to normal)

This has also happened with Morrigan and Wynne as well, but has never lasted this long, maybe an hour at most.

PROBLEM 2----  when I was in the Fade, every single cutscene for every single fight that I had in there (party member and fights to get powers (mouse, spirit, etc) were repeated twice. the one with Morrigan's mother had to be run through three times as the end conversation after Flemeth is dead would not trigger. I had to sit through the entire thing a third time because I used 'X' button to skip a bit of it and no, no- the game would have none of that. I had to FULLY watch it and then Morrigan's 'before she poofs to middle part of Fade shape thingy' speech happened directly after.

PROBLEM 3----  in and out of the Fade, I have random problems with bringing up the 'ring' (left trigger)where we can choose spells, heal, etc. If I bring it up during fights, sometimes it freezes on me and then of course when I try to 'fight' my way out of it, it just freezes again and I have to try and button mash my way out of it, trying to bring either the save menu or my inventory screen stuff (back or start buttons) and after 30 seconds, it finally reverts back to normal. This happens randomly.

I'm sure I've had other issues, but can't recall them right now. I just had these problems yesterday so they're still in my head.

So is it the COPY of the game I'm using- should I buy a new one or something? Or does it have to do with all my saves or something? I  currently have about 5 characters saved with quite a few saves in each game- am I corrupting them by saving too often?

I just have zero idea what I could be doing wrong or what could be going wrong so I'm here asking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. As much as I love DAO, playing a totally broken game that you have to force on its way is highly annoying and the problems in cutscenes break the immersion.

Thanks.

Hm....as a fellow DA player you have my sympathies. As a fellow DA player on a console you have my condolences.

Truthfully beyond official patches there's pretty much nothing we can do to make the game run better. My usual 'fixes' include ignoring the problem where possible, or reloading.

Anyway....

(1) Never had the problem with Leliana. Usually see the problem with mages. Sometimes unsheathing and resheathing their weapons will do the trick.

(2) Have had the occasional repeat but not to the extent you've experienced. Sometimes scenes will repeat. In the Fade I found that to be Leliana's with the repeat inducing some hilarity as the Revered Mother is plainly a demon.

(3) I think I know what you mean. My experience is the ring menu comes up but the action continues; and when you release or click LT again action stops. The control somehow gets reversed. At this point I usually just go into the inventory and then leave again; the anomaly corrects itself then.

I don't think you'll get much joy from a new copy of the game, unless that copy has a differently written code for some reason. I'd suggest 'rotating' saves, if only to have an older save if you meet a gamebreaking bug (rather than things which are 'just' annoying). I personally end up with about 20 saves for a character for safety reasons.

Oh, and if you thought Origins is buggy, then you'll find Awakening even worse.

Thanks for your response.

I've tried the 'exit and go to inventory' trick but it never solves the 'arm issue' and it wouldn't let me do it with the selection ring for almost half a minute.

And Awakenings has bugs? I haven't played it for a long time but I don't remember such game breakers...

Oh well. I'll consider this play through a 'tragic comedy' type deal... I'm still having fun with it anyways :lol:

Wow, I also play on the 360, But I have never had any problems, Glitches, And things like that, The only problem I've ever had was one time when my party would not leave "Combat Mode" but that only lasted like 30 seconds. Or the time I glitched out of party camp area, and was able to run around.

But if your having serious issues like that, Try restarting the game/Console? Try Re updating the game? Maybe your save is acting funky because it randomly got corrupted a little.

Edit: also just remember something, I sometimes come across a problem where the game just "Mutes" someones voice for a few lines in the middle of a cutscene, which forced me to turn on subtitles as I don't want to miss it xD.

Yes this is also an ongoing problem I have as well. Or sort of.

The character's mouth moves as if speaking, but there is no audio right away, it kicks in a moment later thankfully.

I also have issues with my characters in the cutscene, facing the wrong way from the camera when they're shown.

I honestly don't know how my save game would get corrupted, no weird things have happened to the console to have anything happen (surges, power outage, etc) so I still have no idea.

SIDE NOTE---I also have one weird issue while playing Mass Effect 2 as well- the whole scene with Tali's father as evidence from that ship- I hear the audio of his voice but he is nowhere to be seen on the screen. This happens no matter if I use a save or start a whole new game... reaaaaaally peculiar

I've had the Fade nightmare cutscenes repeat sporadically, but it only happened if I talked to the companion before the proper cutscene triggered (apparently it's supposed to trigger immediately after the battle without giving you the chance to talk to them, but sometimes lags). If I left it for ten seconds or so, it would trigger properly. Is this what happened to you?

I've also had the "arms out front" glitch with my PC. I saved and reset the XBox, and have never seen it since. It isn't just your copy being faulty.

I am on 360 and I have never had those issues so it could be the disc. I have had some game breaking bugs with quests and other things like that that have made me redo over 20 hours of gameplay, but have only seen the repeat scene bug which is caused by skipping through the cutscene.

It is really strange how DAO is extremely buggy even in some of the most obvious ways that would have been impossible to miss if it was actually tested.

Yes and I checked many times and i could initiate the cutscenes as many times as i wanted too. Even if left alone, I would run around, trying to trigger the proper cutscene but nothing would happen for minutes so I'd of course amuse myself by triggering the prior cutscene again

It's only happened with Morrigan and Leliana... and no, actually I haven't tried to save and then go back in, usually I'm too into the game to quit

I will try to use my CE edition disc and see if that goes all wonky on me too. Like I said, most of the glitches are funny but seeing the girls' arms up for hours...it looks tiring :lol:

since it happened so close to Val's Day, that's a great explanation. I'll have to remember that if it happens again.

I've had most of those isssues. There's a memory leak. The longer you play without quitting out of the game, the worse it gets. Every few hours, you must leave the game. Better yet, shut your box off and let it cool down a bit.

Coming to think of it, it hasn't been as bad for me since my xbox got fixed. But I don't run it as long in single stretches anymore either....

As for arms getting stuck, specifically, save. Quit the game. Reload the game . It should be fixed when reloaded. It always happens to Wynne when she first gets that extra power of hers.

In the fade dreams, just stand there and don't try to trigger anything. If there's lag, eventually, the rest will happen. ONce you try to say anything to the person after their fight, it will repeat the fight. If it's taking too long, you've had the game running too long, probably.

On the 3rd one, it used to happen to me but it hasn't lately. I'd get stuck where if I pressed the LT, the action continued but the video didin't (so I was getting attacked but couldn't see it or figure out where I was) I know that doesn't make sense...it was like backward. This hasn't happened to me in a long time...since the 1.03 patch.

Is your game patched?

ahh, that's my problem then-running the game too long all in one stretch. but I can't help it- not playing Dragon Age for 5 or so hours is like ignoring chocolate on the table- I can't do either one  :lol:

I'm also running on a brand new elite 360 and have the patch, so I am the culprit in this dilemma.

thanks for your input!!! :happy::wizard:

You don't have to stay out of the game. The most important part is to get all the way to the dashboard, then go back in. You can hear the game writing tons of data to the HD when you do...which means all that data isn't being held in memory anymore...which might speed the machine up a bit. However, I usually turn all the way off and back on, being a longtime PC user who knows how Microsoft is....

If Microsoft made cars, we'd have to stop randomly and turn them off and turn them back on... whenever they started acting unpredictably.

Scary thought.

About the chocolate...here...have a piece, I just made fudge :)

Hmmm, sound advice. Next time I have issues I'm going to do that and see what happens. :D

fudge?!  I haven't had fudge in so long... I might just pass away from yumminess

and about the cars... they do put computers in cars now so who knows, MS might get their paws on some car materials too and start making them... and the computer runs everything in the car so....uh oh!!!!

What in hell? I mean, between this and Fallout: New Vegas, we need to send a message to these guys that they need to finish their games before releasing them.

with the publisher deadlines, the devs aren't allowed to fix most problems (brought to them by QA) that are say, on a scale of 1-10, less than 5 so they all fall through the cracks, being released with the game. I guess they figure they can patch it later if enough complaints are made and if it's cost effective.

businesses today really have their bean counters working overtime and making sure cost stays far away from eating into the profit and big name games take big bucks, hence the rush to release and recoup the investments as soon as possible. these investors are the guys in suits and fancy clothes who don't play the games (most don't anyways) they just cash the checks, so bugs matter not to them. :pinched:

games are getting to be big business these days, approaching the same level as movies, surpassing some even so i don't think we'll see a decline in bugs on release, just an increase as more and more technology is applied per game.

but here's to awesome games! bugs or not- they still rock :wizard:
