Am I the only one who thinks these are all ****ing terrible or ar best medicore? and any graphic designer who's taken color theory and worth his salt would know these are embarrassing to say the least.
Do you all only know of 2 colors in the world? Blue and orange?
So you're saying, that they have to be filled with bright colours to be good?
Ok lets have a look at some game covers that hold memorable games.
Mass Effect 1. You've got your blues, a bit of orange and a bit of white not alot.
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. It's a very plain box art, but very familiar to RPG gamers.
Halo 3. The Defining Colours (Yes I'm british) are orange and blue. epic box art.
Another BioWare game. Dragon Age II. Red and white, with Hawke on the front. nice and simple.
I could go on.
Alot of the box art people have produced are from pictures that have already been made, or they've merged pictures together, if you ask me, a few look very professional and look like a box art you'd see normally.
It doesnt need to have detailed colours, it doesn't need to be more than 2 colours, it's an image that gives a first impression, if you like, and to me some of them look awesome. On the other hand, i'll admit there are a few which could be improved upon, but i won't name and shame.
