I'm hoping we cut to a final Varric and Cassandra scene and then Hawke crashes through the door and yells "Get your hands off my dwarf, woman!"
Credits roll.

Or she says "I'm fed up with your b******t, dwarf!" and thrusts the dagger into the right place this time. Image IPB

And I'm sure that that's exactly what I'm going to do, because the devs won't talk about it <_< But it's fun to throw thoughts around, specualte about the story's structure, etc. :)

I think all this blabbing about Varric is doing is just to buy Hawke more time to do... some epic quest of epicness. I hope we'll get to play through it, but if I'm right it means Varric is not availible for 'the final battle'. Or, alternatively, the epic quest of epicness comes to Kirkwall >_>

While it's only an opinion, one of the reviews (at least one) has said that the ending was unsatisfying. I'm betting that's related to one particular thread.

So, to stop people getting their hopes up, I wouldn't assume that the 'present story thread' established, the whole brink of war thing with Cass and Varric, is going to end neatly. For all we know, it could just be used as a way to tell Hawke's story, which is fine with me. Granted, it would be nice to catch up though and resolve it, so I do agree with people.

Thing is, the game's being sold as being the story of 'Hawke's rise to power where we find out what he did and why he made the choices he did to become the champion'. Nothing has been mentioned about the other plot thread. It's also been said that the game doesn't feature the typical ending where you defeat a big bad or rather, there is no big bad in it.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that while the Cassandra plot thread could be resolved at the game's end and we could play after the interrogation, it's best not to assume anything and just assume that Hawke's story will have a fitting ending. That way, no-one's disappointed with the ending and we all know there will be plenty of complaining come release (this way, we may all end up being surprised as well). People hardly need another reason to complain.
