As everyone has said, the force from the kickback isn't nearly enough to shatter his bones (especially with the amount of muscle mass he has), and the problem isn't in his torso. Plus, cmon, who can resist a scene where Joker looks this badass:

Recoil is caused not by the explosion, but by the bullet leaving the barrel - it's Newton's Law. For every action, an equal an opposite reaction.
Try standing up, picking up a heavy bag or somesuch, and throwing it. It'll knock you back slightly.

Do you know what really scares the hell out of me on this and all other ME forums? Just how many people ACTUALLY READ THE CODEX! And refer to it! Often! Holy ****! I thought I was obsessive, but in truth I am a ME light-weight. I hide my head in shame.
