Of all the currency systems on the internet, Bioware had to ape Microsoft's monument to consumer exploitation.
I'd like to buy Kasumi, Overlord and The Shadowbroker DLC packs for ME2. I'd love to play them. I wouldn't even mind paying for them.
The trouble is, there is no mathematical way to just buy those things for their proposed value. No matter what combination of BioWare Points I purchase, I'll always be a little short or I'll have a handful left over. It wouldn't be so bad, but that handful left over wouldn't even be enough for one of the extraneous costume or item packs.
No matter what, I'll be spending money to buy pretend money that I'll never be able to effectively spend. As a solution, I won't buy anything. I might not even buy Mass Effect 3, even though I've loved ME2. I just always idealized BioWare as this company that was out to provide optimal gaming experiences above all else. I was able to write off KOTOR 2 as a fluke of 3rd party development.
Unfortunately, BioWare appears to be one of the few companies that looked at Bethesda's early "horse armor" attempt at DLC and thought, "Yeah, that's how you do it!"
Good luck in the future, jerks.
