I was about to mention Terminator as a bit of a "guilty pleasure", but Terminator 2 I didn't like so much; Aliens caught my attention at the time, but afterwards... I dunno, both lacked something and I often felt there was something a bit preachy about them, though I couldn't always put my finger on it. I guess I just don't like Cat-Bum-Mouth's films.Sable Phoenix wrote...
The Terminator wasn't Cameron, Terminator 2 was, which was definitely fantastic. So was Aliens. The man knows how to film sequels, as both movies were better than their progenitors, in my opinion.highcastle wrote...
Well, some of Cameron's older stuff is good. The Terminator for one. And I have a guilty pleasure soft spot for True Lies as well. But most of his recent stuff is just...meh. It's visually impressive, but all style and no substance.
True Lies was meh. Titanic was boring as hell. Avatar was pure crap. It was really really good looking crap, but it was still crap. There was not a single original thing in it, storywise, characterwise, or any other wise (Unobtanium? Really?), and I despise movies that tell me what I should think and how horribly evil I am if I don't think it.

Avatar. I thought it was a decent movie, but in no way shape or form did it live up to the hype. I'm on the , it's allright but overrated. Just eye candy.
The new Transformers films. I grew up with hte franchise, and love it. But these films are bad on so many levels. I think that a fun Transformers live action film could be done, but the wrong people are doing it.

Congrats, you are now qualified to be a film snob.
Also, people liked Avatar? Huh, must be an American thing.

Actually on this note I hate every single Julia Roberts movie in existance.

Some prissy girl with a bit of an attitude is forced to be around some chauvanistic guy who once you get to know him really has a heart of gold.
They hate each other at first but then discover that they really love each other because while they guy may seem like a jerk he really has a softer side underneath that rough exterior...THE END.

Both Juno and Slumdog Millionaire were brilliant films.

There are many words that can be used to describe Juno and Slumdog Millionaire. Such words include "pretentious," "overwrought" "overly-preachy," and "predictable" but I don't think brilliant is one of them.
The worst thing about movies like Juno especially is that they try so hard to be hip and cute with their dialogue that impressionable idiots will watch the movie and then think they're intellectually superior to everyone who hasn't.

Juno, perhaps, but I do not see at all how Slumdog Millionaire was 'pretentious'.
Obviously you've had a run-in of some description with a person who believed they were 'intellectually superior' after watching such films, but maybe that says more about the person than the film?

Actually, The Terminator was directed by James Cameron.
Add that movie to a list of popular movies I don't like, I didn't like Terminator 2 either though.
However, keep in mind that as a rule I hate almost all stories that involve time travel.
Even....Back to the future?!

Maybe it's just the people I know who love it, idk if it's the same for everyone else. For me, it's such a stupid, BORING, and poorly done movie.
AHA I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS!! And I know, so overrated, so lame, so mjeh. I'll never go to a movie theater to watch a horror movie ever again. So many let downs nowadays.Annie_Dear wrote...
THIS.
I hate this movie. It was cliché, boring and not scary.
Fun
fact: When me and a couple of friends went to see it, only one person
in the audience was scared (she was one fo my friends). Everyone else
were either laughing, sleeping or they simply left before the movie was
over.
My friend even went as far to think that what she'd seen was actually real...
Must've been embarassing, I feel your pain :/. Has your friend ever watched The Day After Tomorrow? I wonder what she'd think of that movie.

I don't know if she's seen it. All I know is that I can't show "The Blair Witch Project" to her... which I'm okay with, because I didn't like that movie either.
And if you want to see a good, modern horror film, watch "Martyrs". The only movie I'e seen in the theaters where people fainted in the audience.

I just do not see what all the fuss over The Godfather series is about actually. When I first saw this film, my friend fell asleep, and I was unable to piece together the mix of scenes with names, places, etc. It just finished again on TV, and it did not fare much better. But at least today there is a Wiki....
Another picture: Raging Bull. I call it Raging Bore. When I first saw this, it was a bad reel which revealed the microphone in nearly every indoor scene. Just not worth the time to try again, IMO.
Casablanca - I like every star in this one; just cannot swallow the film. It is always puzzled me why I must see things so much differently than the remaining world. I much prefer The African Queen.
Now folks can offer crit on my taste, but I am a bit more interested on other films that find you swimming against the current of popularity.
Avatar, Twilight, Transformers.. HATE these movies so much
