The lack of scabbards in video-games offends me because it comes off as lazy. I would also rather keep a sword at the hip because I wanna be able to lean against a wall without having a sword poking me in the back.
Wearing weapons at the waist instead of on the back?

Scabbards, Bowstrings and Mounts make BioWare EXTREMELY uncomfortable...thus I seriously doubt we'll see them implement such things anytime before gaming advancements "force" their hand.

I'm mostly annoyed by the staff. Looking closely in DAO, the staff doesn't even go on the back correctly. It goes on upside down then instantly flips. I'd be satisfied with them simply carrying it, but that makes two handed emoting in cutscenes awkward.

You know what, go play KOTOR/2. You will see what I mean in the first few seconds, and you'll stop whining about a non-issue.

I think we can react more quickly if our weapons are on our backs rather than at the waist (for guns*). Also it will require new animations.

Well, it is put on the opposite way now, or so it seems, with the business end pointing down.
Thus this probably won't be a problem.
