I've finally caved in and started modding an assault rifle in an effort to have something roughly equiavlent to the Spectre X AR from ME1 (i.e, something that is accurate, powerful and fully automatic, traits which don't exist together in any of ME2's assault rifles).

I figured I might as well start with the Vindicator as it's virtually obsolete post-firepower pack and (imho) sports the coolest model, so I''ve been trying to mod it so that it functions more closely in line with it's codex description.

I'd like to produce something that isn't totally overpowered and my experiments so far have produced something pretty cool (essentially a weapon that fires in three-round burst and full auto, 40 rounds per clip, 320 rounds in reserve, 750rpm with aim errors between the original vindy and the Avenger, everything else is the same as the Vindy's base stats)

However, this is just initial testing - has anyone done some serious testing on this type of thing and would be willing to pass on some pointers? What options to modify, where things get unbalanced, the effect of the upgrades in the game and how to plan for them in the stats etc etc?

Just realize that when you modd the weapon for yourself, you modd it for the enemy as well ! Unless you modd the damage lines for the enemies use, you'll find yourself getting killed petty quickly. I don't have the link handy but check the " Moddding is possible" thread.

Good point! I'll make sure I tone that stuff down in the ini file... :D

Been there done that, JaegerBane. Was working on modifiers that would allow a player to bind to a set of keys a fire select for single, burst, and full auto.

Trying to make the Rev. a little more useful. Got the whole thing working correctly on the Mattock (full auto Mattock is sickening). Sadly, there are some stumbling blocks wrt to the way BW implements things.

Head over to the Modding is Possible thread. Plenty of us there to answer your questions.

Cruc1al modded the Vindicator almost the way you did / want to.

Here's a link to his project : social.bioware.com/project/2124/#details

Never tried this myself but I might try it.
