You know what I love? I love it when people believe that they have the answers to very difficult questions, and share their percieved answers with the world, although in truth, they are just bull****ting up and down the cost of the West Indies. Truth be told, it makes my day...simply because these people are soooooo easy to find.
But to answer the OP's question, I'm going to be honest and just answer, well....I'm not so sure.
I don't quite understand it myself, but perhaps you have felt it too if you really liked a romanceble character in the DA series. Having the feeling of connection with an idea or a person, I think is still the same feeling. But still, like in DA:O, I remember the feeling of being really happy when Alistair was around, not just because he was funny, but especially after he handed me his rose, I couldn't wait to talk to him again, you know, just to see what he would say or what I could say to him.
