You are not a hero until you don't get your girl(or guy).

Considering the fact that there are threads on nearly everyother aspect of the game from hair color to underwear, its not surprising there are few on romances which is a big part of bioware games.

isn't that (mostly) what games are all about ?

Be nice to see when the characters do romance that they are not wearing the same kind of underwear. That annoyed my when i saw that on Dragon Age Origins. Hopefully the new characters will have a colorful undergarments.

It is content you choose to pursue. It is not forced on you.
Which is why people who don't like romances should stay out of the discussion because they are not going to be forced through it and can happily ignore its existence, and people who enjoy them should be free to just talk about what they like, and how they like it...

I think if you are going to play an RPG you want it to be as real as possible, and romance is a real part of life.
Well and even beyond that when you get right down to it most of the stuff you do in a role playing game doesn't involve any playing of a role. Combat...well not too much unless you just mean that the player character does your will. Juggling inventory and selling trash, not at all. Really it is the character interactions where you get to "really" be this other person and the romances, along with "choices", that make up most of the role playing.

That is just rediculous. I've been on 474 first dates and have been in a steady relationship for 5 years.
Dating/Romance is not an issue for me.
I'm interested in Romances above most other issues because this is the first company I've seen that did romance storylines so well.
I mean, I started off where Cecil/Rosa; Celes/Locke; Aeris/Cloud were what I could expect from in-game romances. These are at an entirely other level.
A lot of the other storyline aspects are more "been there done that" for me. So...novelty might be my major interest in them...that and I'm a sucker for a good love story.

I don't dislike romances in concept, I think the romances I've seen so far are very shallow, unrealistic and belief-suspendingly awkward.
DA2 characters look good, so I am hoping to see some non-cringe inducing romances. I am eager to have my mind changed about romances but I've played Bioware games so many dozens of times, I don't expect it to happen. I am surprised so many other people don't share my sentiments to be honest.

I like to have an emotional investment in the games I play, and a real connection with the characters in it. The best way to acheive that are deeply developed characters, conversation, and romance. And I know it's "just a game" but it is really flattering to feel romanced in these games. This character depth is my favorite thing about the BioWare games and what sets them apart (and above) the others. It makes them far more engaging, compelling, and addictive for me.
I agree 100%.

I don't need a romance to like the game, of course. Heck, I tend to skip them in ME, I don't find them to be as well written or as well acted as I'd like ... or the love interest doesn't even have lips. Sorry, Garrus. You're my friend, but ... no lips! Our love cannot be.

To be honest, this is pretty easy, you just choose the middle right choice on the dialog wheel to politely stay friends. Top-right will initiate romance.

Yeah. Because none of the guys enjoyed the Morrigan and Leliana romances at all. So that must be it. Men HATE romance.Failbox wrote...

Thank you Bioware for making it happen in my gaming as its sadly lacking in most games. I am a guy who loves the romance options and hold out hope that the rest of the industry follows suit
And no I'm not compensating for anything.

It can be pretty hard, yeah, but I have a decent eye for "THIS ONE IS GOING TO GIVE THEM THE HOTS FOR YOU" paraphrases. I'm not above breaking up with them the instant I realise they want in my pants, either. The one who catches me offguard more often than not is poor Jack, partly because the only way you can end it completely with her is by being the biggest jerkface imaginable. On the other end of the scale, I've never accidently flipped Jacob's switch.
I did sort of let Ashley die in order to keep my MANSHEP from being molested against his will though.
