I have used Amphraels tutorial off the vault to make a custom picture (I have a very nice idea for it, I will post if it works).

All went well and I have my MDS and dds and I added my picture to line 2001 on the placeables 2da. Popped them all in the overide and opened the toolset.

Once in there another placeable (overland mine entrance) had disappeared. If I took the 2da out of override it came back again.

What foolishness have I commited here. Is there something I should know or do when adding new content like this.

Thanks in advance,

PJ

It sounds like you might be using an outdated 2da. The overland placeable would be from SOZ, so I figure there's a conflict there. I might be wrong, but that would be a good place to start.

I think you are right. I now have no conflict. I just need to see the placeable :)

That's a job for this evening.

Chances are I have done this for my music and loadscreen 2da's as well but not noticed.

Thanks for the post CW.

Hmm still feeling foolish here. I imagine this is a simple procedure but I am not getting it right.

I have added my new file to the placeables 2da, saved that and put it in override.

I have put my dds and MDB file into the override too.

The blueprint is not appearing in the mod (or I don't know where to look for it).

Are there any other pitfalls to this process I am missing. I have modified 2da's for music and loadscreen without these issues. I must be doing something wrong :(

Any other pointers would be welcomed. I am starting to think the effort is not worth the outcome but the learning experience is a good one I guess.

You may have to create a new blueprint and then under properties, choose the correct appearance. The appearance name should (I'm pretty sure) be from the 2da file.

Did it! I suffer it seems from an inability to read instructions (you should see the IKEA wardrobe I built - it would make a very fine boat).

Anyways this is what I had in mind. I took a picture outside the mine in the toolset, cut and pasted that to a custom painting then mounted the painting on the back wall of the mine entrance on the interior area. Now as you pass up the mine if you have the camera low it looks as if you can see to the outside

... sort of

I'm pleased but I am not sure the amount of hours that this has eaten up was worth it.

Now that you know how, the next one will go faster. one for each time of day, scripted to change with the time would really add to the effect!

That's a fine idea. I just need to learn how to script adequately.

The area is visited only briefly buts it's one to remeber for future projects. I could always set the outside area to always be day, that would save a whole lot of scritpting :)

I am thinking of other ways to aply this idea. Interior windows is one posibility but a whole lot of work ....

Wow, PG156's idea and the above by Hellfire are awesome ideas and very, very easy to implement (once you have the first created you're really just copy+pasting and adding a new .dds). This reminds me of the "windows" in some NWN1 tilesets.
I'll have to implement this. Thumbs up to you, PG!
