Any indication on whether this will allow you to respec your companions?

Yes, you will be able to. Will probably work the same as in Awakening using tomes.

I was just wondering if there is going to be any way to ReSpec my main character (or even better, any ally as well) throughout DA2's story, anyone know?

I do!
You can.

Thanks! Will the respec allow us tro replace Mind Blast/Pommel Strike/Miasmic Flask (the otherwise unskippable default starting talents)?

TJ, but it would be just an option. Not like you would be forced to use it if you didn't want to -- but it gives those of us who don't like to have to start a new character to correct build mistakes a way to do it mid-game.

No, I completely understand that it would be optional, and I'd never have to use it.  And I understand that some people want it, and Marshaleck gave a good example of a reason for it, besides simply "because I want to".  Not that you said that, but perhaps his post explained it to me more.

That said, if it's going to be an option, I think it should be an expensive one - in terms of gold, to buy it, although that doesn't always work with some of the exploits and cheats.

Would you accept it if, for instance, you lose some skill points when you do it?

I mean, I just don't want to see a game where there's an option to change your skill set whenever you want, with virtually no cost to doing so.  That would allow you to practically customize your character or party for every battle, if we took it to the extreme.

So...to be clear...you will never, in any circumstance, use a re-spec option.  And the only way you can support it being in the game is if it has severe negative consequences to the players who do want it?  Gee, that's resonable.

It was said: In the Black Imporium, they sell a potion that allows you to respec and you can buy as many as you want.

I don't see the problem, they added it in Mass Effect 2 and Too Human had it, so why not?

It's not like you can do it for free.

It's 1 gold in the black emporium.
Common sense wins this time around. Its there for people who want to try new things without restarting a new game, and you don't have to use it if you don't like it.

Epic win.

I like this option, I never really like the premade choices for some characters. Can't wait to start my mage character!

I personally don't like the thought of possibly being stuck with an ability I don't care for. Since you can't exactly rent an ability (or know how much you'll like their souped up upgrades down the line), you have to take a risk when choosing some of them.

I know in some games that's just part of the fun, having to live with your choices, and I may end up being fine with that, but if I do end up making some choices I end up regretting, I like knowing that there will be something I can use to further tailor the experience to my liking.

One of the charms of role-playing games is in their customization, and anything that makes that more user-friendly is something to be celebrated in my opinion.

hehe so im like levellin n stuff and i realise im goin tank with sword and shield bug big chinned ginger lady is perma tank too so im like wtf waste of talent point so i wanna go two-handrer bt i aint gto da points so LOL

Long story short, I was nonplussed with the whole respec option 'til I realised there's already a tank and you can't give the sweaty man-beast a two hander, and two tanks running about would be useful if say, I were in a trench and this was World War 1 or 2.... oof!

its a single player came, who cares what the cost is to the players. What does it matter in my save if i screw up the skills and should have chosen something else. My choice in my game doesnt affect you so cost means nothing because no price can be drawn between two different installs.

I think re-specing would be nice but I see less need for it - the new levelling system allows greater focus and you're less likely to end up with a gimped character.

I had to install the re-spec mod for DAO because I'd halved my time between archery and dual-weild to the point where I was no good at either.

In case it hasn't been mentioned yet, there is currently a bug involving the Maker's Sigh potions where you can get infinite ability points. I stumbled across it by accident and was quite annoyed as I don't tend to use glitches, after googling I found a few links and a video demonstrating it. It seems to happen when you save and re-load and I'm not sure it's actually avoidable. Which is very annoying if you don't want to glitch the game but want to change some abilities around.

Hoping it'll get patched.

.... SO AWESOME.

Barack Hawke had too many things in Weapon & Shield. I drank the potion and optimized him for my Acts 2.5-3 speed run.
