After pondering it with a few of my friends, I've come to the conclusion that there's no logical reason for asari to be equipped for penetrative sex. Granted, many will say that there's no logical reason for the asari to be, period, and they wouldn't be totally wrong; personally, I believe they were artificially engineered by someone. However, even with that, considering that their reproductive processes are mostly mental and they bred with each other for thousands of years, they have absolutely no need to be receptive to penises.

Thus, I contend that the asari birth canal, though located in a similar spot to the human one, is not a pleasure zone or adapted for penetration. It's possibly comparable to the human cervix, a valve meant to enable passage only one way; even if it wasn't actually painful for anything to enter it, it'd likely be odd and uncomfortable.

And so I pose this question to Maleshep/Liara fans: if this was true and you couldn't engage in penetration (keeping in mind that there are several other ways to engage in physical pleasure as seen with Femshep), would you stay with her or would you move on to a human (or quarian) LI?

You know, I actually pondered this myself.

Can't answer your question, though, since I am lacking in pingas.

Hats off to you, Xil. I have a flameshield on standby for you, because you might need it. The Capt. Kirk Shepards get pretty defensive when it comes to digital derriere. xD

well by that logic, they wouldnt necessarilly have to take any clothes off for their bodies to meld, which...ahem...i'm pretty sure that skankay hoe just happened to do in my captain's quarters >:D

and the way i see it is this. your options are:

liara: loveable innocent BANGIN' character
tali: SPACE AIDS
miranda: MEGA SPACE AIDS
kelly:...perhaps...

now...if Samara was a possible LI in ME2, then we'd be on a whole nother level.

Aha. They do have erogenous zones, I'm fairly certain, such as the azure (which Shepard grabs in the cabin scene in LotSB). So nudity would still be conducive to sex's physical pleasure, and their breasts are very possibly erogenous zones themselves.

No there is no reason for them to be able to be able to, or like, penetrative sex. However, according to Drew Karpyshyn and his books they are. One of the characters in Mass Effect: Retribution has an asari girlfriend, and they engage in what seems to be penetrative sex mixed with the asari melding of nervous systems. However, this could simply be something they might agree to do for the pleasure of a non-asari partner.

The meld is supposedly more pleasureable than regular sex anyway, so that wouldn't really be a reason to leave her.

Soulja Boy is that you? Or is it Lil' Wayne?

Your attitude towards women is positively enlightened at any rate.

No, it's not clear that they engange in any penetration, from that novel.

Kai Leng/Liselle? Judging by the pairing, there could be many reasons why it happens aside from pleasure. Assuming that there's any penetration at all, as I haven't read the book. But jlb has.

Liara states that asari are very comfortable with their sexuality, so I'd wager that they can derive sexual pleasure in more ways than the average human with an average human body and what we can only speculate is an average human sex life, regardless of whether they are capable of being penetrated by blueberry-pokers.

Isn't this a good thing though? Sex is better when it's ...better. Sex is better when it feels awesome for everyone. If my ManShep is open enough to pursuing a relationship with an asari, it's likely he wouldn't care. Not to mention that ManShep himself has plenty of other erogenous zones that aren't his wang. For reals, guys.

P.S. speculating about Azure is THE BEST. <3

I am aware of that. It's just that it doesn't seem like there any reflection of how it would be different from sex with a human woman except for the melding of course.
Since penetrative sex is the "normal" way for humans then I'm leaning towards believing that's what was going on.

You are entitled to believe what you want, but your belief isn't canon.

All the female LIs (including Samara, I'll have to force her) are giving me one in ME3:devil:

But to the topic, I think it's because Bioware wanted to make the asari more relateable

Paul Grayson and Liselle yes.
What reasons aside from pleasure would that be?

well, you can't help but see how similar asari are to human females. there may have been a time when asari had defined "male" and "female" genders, but were able to adapt to one single "form" with a prioritized means of sex through melding of minds, while retaining the former body (and a certain orriphas). its like we as humans still have hair, even though it derives from our former primate genes, or how call of duty still has the basis of mindless shooting, despite it getting steadilly s***ier with each new game.

but thanks to fox news, i guess we'll never know <_<

Of course there are, I just don't remember it being brought up in any way that it is (apart from the melding). However all these things are written so they are open to interpretation.

Maybe I should have been clearer about it from the start that I didn't mean it as written in stone, just that was how I interpreted the situation.
