In my defense, I didn't hate her until I met her fanbase.

Actually, I kind of like her.  She's mysterious and mellow.  But this "ZOMG MAKE HER A SQUADMATE" silliness drives me batty.

I don't accuse you, this discussion just adds unnecessary hostility on this forum.

I'd rather take James instead of Shiala.

He has probably more practical use than her.

An alliance marine vs an asari commando? Guess who would win that one. And her biotics are not unstable anymore since we probably cured that in ME2

Shepard is an alliance marine and he has asari commandos for breakfast.  I'm just saying.

Shiala has most likely done her part. I don't need her.

Indeed. The eight feet tall geth Juggernaut is more intimidating.

True xD But then again shepard took a swim in space and came back healthier than before. Shepard is a race of his own

I remember running into her in ME2 and saying to myself "oh hey i remember you...weren't you purple?" and that was the extent of the impact she made on me. Dont have anything against her but I cant help but think why waste time trying to develop a character with little relevance, characterization, or value when you already have up to 18 possible squadmates who could use more screen time. Heck if they would go to the trouble of making Shiala a squadmate Id rather them see them take that effort and focus it on the two DLC squadmates, maybe then I might actually be tempted to have them in my party.

sometimes people look way too hard into things

I don't know about that, I'm guessing that her exclusive power will be similar to Dominate, only using clouds of Thorian spores, or maybe cloning herself.  An asari commando who is half thorian could be very practical in battle.

No chance in hell this is happening. There are already 2 possible Asari squadmates, and there won't be a third.

Regular Geth is also more intimidating.

Did you play ME1?  Shiala was a critical plot character - the entirety of feros would have been pointless without her to impart the Prothean cypher to Shepard, this makes her the only other person in the galaxy with an in-depth understanding of the protheans.

The Councilors were plot-critical, too.  WE SHOULD TOTALLY MAKE THEM SQUADMATES no.

Possible spoilers>>>

Given Liara's comment regarding the shadow brokers interest in the Protheans at the end of Lair, I get the impression that there is still a part for the protheans to play in Me3.  Shiala would fit in nicely here.

Or Liara, who studied the protheans.

Or Shepard, who has the damn Cipher already, making Shiala redundant.

Sigh!
I never said she had to be a squad mate (as much as I would like her to be) but she should still have a part to play.
Liara has an archaeologists understanding of the Protheans based on fragmentary 50'000 year old evidence.  Shiala has an actual understanding of the Protheans based on racial memories from actual protheans absorbed by the Thorian.
As for Shepard he/she also has a war to fight and a galactic army to mobilize.  If you have Shiala in the game then you can get her to track down Prothean leads while you go sort out the galaxies problems - this is why we have allies/associates/whatever - so you don't have to do everything yourself.

Yes. I wish we could all just agree to disagree. There's no reason for either side to be hostile in their speculations (and until ME3 is released, that's all this is... speculation).

I'm personally in the camp of people who believe Shiala will be included in ME3, but not as a squaddie. Most likely a romanceable Normandy crewmember. I mean, why not? If Bioware was going to drop the character after ME2, they wouldn't have teased us like that in her encounter...
I-it's just my opinion, though. No need to go spreading it around... ;)

I'm just hoping the she make SOME kind of appearance, either as a temp. squadie, one night stand, etc. She was always one of my all time ME1 favorite characters!

I could see her making a return if we visit Feros again. I think it would be neat seeing how much it changed since our last time seeing it, and it might be different depending on the choices we made there during ME1.

That said, I don't think she'll be a squadmate, she just seems too wrapped up in the preservation of the colony.

Yes please. I'd LOVE her as a squaddie. At the very least she should join the Normandy crew. If you don't make her an LI I'll kill you Bioware. (jk lol :) )

I totally don't see this coming. Regardless of the fact that she can be killed, Shiala isn't even part of the choice comic. That is to say, let's not hold our breaths.

What is it with people absolutely taking a dump on the idea? Christ.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. Whether she is or isn't doesn't matter to me.

But it sure isn't going to give me a reason to be all holier than thou with my opinion.

She can be killed, and non-imported Shepards from ME2 don't have her iirc.

Which would only make her a BETTER potential squadie I think.

She can be killed in ME1: Yes, which means that your decisions in ME1 can still affect the outcome you get in ME2, which is a GOOD thing in my opinion. I fully support such long-term effects in your decision making, which we can NOT oversee when we make them. If this was in, and we had known about such an option during ME1 already, then it's relatively easy to see what would've happened: the whole forum and every guide telling you to save her, making it no longer your personal decision, but only a convenience decision.

She is only available to people who went through ME1: Again, this is a good thing in my opinion. Reward your old-time fans once in a while. And both Shiala and the meeting with the Consort in ME1 give good opportunity to do just that: reward your longtime fans.

Now, there will always be people who'd start complaining that old-time fans would get a big advantage over new players because of this. But, that's a matter of implementation, and can be compensated rather easily. In the case of Shiala: she's an Asari Commando, remember? Now, where have we heard about Asari Commando's before? Hmmmmm. There must be another Asari Commando in the ME universe as a potential squadie? Like... Aria?
Have the Reapers blow up Omega and let Aria barely escape alive and join Shepard, out for revenge.

So: give ME1 veterans the option to recruit Shiala, and give all players the option to recruit Aria. Give the two near identical abilities, and ME1 veterans basically end up with 2 Asari Commando's, while non-veterans get 1.

What if she's a "secret" squadmate? :) The squadmate selection could be more flexible in ME3.

Got a strong feeling [random ME1 NPC]'s gonna be a ME3 squaddie...

I'm almost completely sure that this has been brought up before, as the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

When you land on [hub world] in ME2, you run into [random ME1 NPC] who talks about [stuff relating to what they did in ME1]. S/he then [says goodbye in a signature way], then leaves. MY guess is that somewhere in ME3's campaign, we'll be heading back to [place we met NPC in ME1] to fend off a Reaper attack. In doing so, we'll pick up [NPC] along the way.

EDIT: Oh, the blissful ignorance of paragonity. S/he can be killed... :C

You can do this with Gianna, Conrad, Fist, Helena Blake, and possibly a few others I forgot to mention.

Helena Blake for squadmate.

What difference does that make?  Anders could be killed in DA:A, but he was available to players who hadn't played DA:A or let him get killed.  There are plenty of ways they could get around this.

1.  There could be a "plot hook bug" which causes all players to let Shiala live, like the one that had all players stick a gun in Conrad Verner's face.

2.  Shiala underwent symbiotic fusion with the Thorian and became tough enough to withstand a shotgun to the head.  If this is the case, there will be a "rivalry romance" option for players who tried to murder her. (This makes more sense to me than half the science in ME2.)

3.  If Shiala is dead, her spot in the party will be filled by a self-aware Asari Clone, like the ones you fight in ME1.  Hopefully Asari Clone won't have as many oversight problems as Morinth.

4.  Shepard never actually murdered Shiala.  Believing that he had was actually just a side effect of receiving the cipher.

5.  Lizbeth discovered her shortly after being shot by Shepard, and revived her with a generous application of medigel.  (Hey, if medigel can revive you after getting blasted by the Human reaper's nuclear death ray, why not a shotgun?)

6.  The game never actually showed Shiala getting shot, sheppard might have missed.
