I don't really care about the sexuality of characters, but my speculation is that characters are not designed to facilitate all options of romances. For instance Isabela appears to be bisexual, this is not just to be an option for players, it is supposed to be apart of her personality. Not every character will offer every permutation or option for romances and that is by design. Some characters are designed to be heterosexual, some are designed to be homosexual, some are designed to be bisexual. I think it would cheapen the depth of the characters to disregard their personalities and instead use them all simply to facilitate all possible romance options.

This! I agree with this completely! Well said.

So what exactly do you lose out on when an LI is bisexual?

Edit: As for that thread I participated in it and there was far more against than for.

Alistair`s rose and marriage and Morrigan`s love child - gender specific content in other words. I think people are afraid to lose this.

The marriage thing I'll grant you. Don't know why the rose has to be gender specific. Morrigan could have the baby whether you romanced her or not, and if the PC was female. Hell, imagine the angst of having your lesbian lover having a baby with a man (who has the potential to be a good friend of yours) in order to save your life.

This I very much agree with. To me Morrigan wouldn't have made any sense as bisexual because of the way Flemeth raised her.

It would be nice to have a attractive homosexual member of the party.

Holy cow?! Lady Hawke?! What is with that massive package.

About the facial hair. I think its because some years have passed. Bioware said that the look of characters would change across the years.

If you are talking about Fenris, it's just his skintone. A dev confirmed that he does not have facial hair.

Also this.

I mean they can't be bothered to cover up Isabela usually but they do so now?

I couldn't possibly have said this better :D

People say that sexuality has nothing to do with personality, and while it doesn't EXACTLY, it's something that the character prefers. If Leliana only liked shoes in playthroughs where the Warden also liked shoes, I would consider that erosion of her personality, and I wouldn't be down for it. It's important to me that integrity and wholeness of character be preserved.

I love how so many of you are saying that changing their sexual orientation would change their personality.

That implies to me that either A) you love to stereotype, or B) (using an analogy) you think Alistair would have been a completely different character if he also had sex with men.

And that I find amusing. I thought we weren't supposed to judge or define people by their sexual orientation. How would Alistair being bisexual take away any of his depth? To reiterate, how is him being straight all that important to his personality at all?

Alistair to me is a uh... example because I didn't see him as very straight at all. Licking a lampost in winter indeed.
