There seems to be no information regarding this issue around the internet so I've come here to see if anyone has better information.
After I create a game, the person joining can only do so by putting in my IP address... but it never, ever works. We're both running the latest Windows 7 software and have no firewall issues so I'm not sure what the problem is! We resorted to using GameSpy Arcade, which launches the game successfully for both of us but I don't know what to do from there. Game Ranger only launches the game successfully for one person but even if it did for both, what the hell am I supposed to do once I hit create game?
TCP/IP or Serial are the ONLY protocols I can select so how in the world can I get my friend to join in? We even tried reversing the roles but nothing seems to work.
I can't join a Baldur's Gate TOTSC multiplayer game

Joining by IP over the Internet works but their is a catch. The catch is, the only way to join is one person has to have a public IP address (hint: if your address starts 192.168... then that is a private network address). Most ISPs only give a public IP address for your router or modem, and all other machines behind it use private IP addresses.
It is possible to connect to a private address. You have to setup your router to forward the port # that Baldur's Gate uses in its muliti-player protocol to your private address. One of you would then connect to that router IP and the router will forward it. Note that for this to be effective your IP needs to be static, won't help if it keeps changing which is possible if multiple computers behind the router/modem because DHCP (the protocol that assigns IPs) is the common setup.
Unfortunately I don't know off-hand the port numbers you need to input into your router. Might be in the manual.

i had a similar problem, but i forwarded the right ports, my ip address is static, and my friend is putting in the right ip (i know because he joins my minecraft server). it won't let him connect.
