Pretty much. Suffice to say it's (most likely unintentionally on the Pokémon designer's part due to their likely unfamiliarity of the cultural implications) an adaptation of very, very politically incorrect caricatures.Hakuro de Killer wrote...

Someone mentioned anthropomorphic romances?
Bring it on. If there's such a race in Dragon Age anyway.
What're you doing France? Have you been hanging out with Japan again? He's a bad influence you know.
Man-shaped not-men? Well, men don't usually grow horns, so the qunari might qualify, and a 8 feet, muscular guy has a certain appeal.

I just wish there were more videos and screeenshots of Anders and Fenris available to satisfy me until Mar. 8th, cause i'm making myself crazy just looking at the few available right now. BTW, my birthday is Mar. 20th. Thank you Bioware for the wonderful birthday present!

Although I'm a huge fan of Dragon Age, I dont usually post on the forums. However, after seeing over 100 pages of posts on this topic, I simply had to contribute. I am absoluely stoked about playing this game since Chris confirmed the Romance options available. I loved the Anders character in Awakening and am thrilled they are giving him more depth in Dragon Age 2. We don't know much about Fenris yet, but he looks hot and thats enough to peak my interest anyway.

while I can see the blackface thing and partially understand it, the cultural origins far outweigh the idea of it being blackface, especially the Yama Uba, a being that wears a tattered red kimono and having whitish blond hair, traits ganguro shares in regards to the hair.
However, the new coloring fits as well due to what frostbite does to the color of the skin, but I grew up with the original Jynx, and just because someone SEES it as racist doesn't mean it actually IS/WAS racist.

Let me ruin Lickitung and Lickilicky for you. I realized years back that they are the **** eater Pokemon. Yes the tongue is for eating out, but not for food.

I'm hoping that Aveline might be a bit like Samara, as in you don't have a *proper* romance, but you still have something.

I also missed the debate of doom on bisexual LIs. Shame. Was asleep at the time >_< I'm all for it though! We already had real-life straight dudes admitting here they'd probably go gay for Zevran (the accurate term would be 'go bisexual', but whatever) IRL, why not have computer people discover they're not as straight as they thought they were. It happens, and given the lack of prejudice in Thedas, it must happen more often there.

Kind of a "We'll always have Paris" thing, eh?
I do understand why Aveline is not an LI though. I mean, not only did she lose her husband, but you were actually there when it happened. You didn't kill him yourself, of course, but still -- not the best way to kick off a romance.

Actually, you can mercy kill Wesley yourself or make Aveline do it. Not the best way for romances to start

As much as they profess that they'd "go gay for Zevran", I'm pretty sure irl if he dropped his pants they'd tighten their belts.

masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Samara#Romance
"Through conversations, Shepard has the option to show a romantic
interest in Samara. However, due to Samara's commitment to the Code, she
chooses to serve the code over romantic pursuit, which the code does
not forbid, thus rejecting Shepard's advances. Nonetheless, she notes
that she appreciates the interest. However, through further conversation
options, Shepard may continue to push for a romantic relationship,
which causes Samara to almost give in to Shepard's advances and share a
kiss, but she stops Shepard at the last moment and asks for some time
alone. After this conversation, she can be found observing the drive
core from the Crew Quarters. If spoken to, she will simply reply
"Please." She will return to Starboard Observation when Shepard leaves
the deck. However, if Shepard is a Renegade, Samara will instead say
that she does not feel the same connection and that she has seen Shepard
do too many things that would compel her to violence were she not under
oath."
EDIT: the conversation that triggers the "romance" scene is the one that starts with Samara stating "You have been a good friend to me".

I think it's solely dependent on who's the pitcher and who's the catcher in regards to the people who'd go gay for Zevran, myself among them as I've previously stated.
edit: eh, I think that was too much information for you guys.

Yeah, it's not a full romance like the others, but she does acknowledge Shepard's feelings and her own. I hope there'll be something like this with Aveline. After all, a lot of people don't class Samara as a romance option either.

I hope you get what you want, then.
But wouldn't it make you feel worse?
Personally I'd have preferred no dialogue at all to getting "Samara'd". It really felt like a slap in the face.
I hope the game offers strong friendships anyway.
In ME, there's no middle-ground between 'distant associate' and 'bedmate'. In DA1, I have never romanced Alastair, Morrigan or Zevran, yet on every playthrough I felt as if I earned their freindship.

Actually, I think I might like it more. It might have the more 'platonic relationship path' that I enjoy, rather than a relationship that must culminate in sex and kissies and what-have-you. I liked that with Samara, because she acknowledged the close bond between you without having to then jump into bed. Like you say though, DA has never had as much trouble as ME when it comes to friendship paths, so I hope this remains true in DA2.

It may have worked for you, but not for me - not in the context of ME2.
The ONLY female party member who likes me can't have me because of 'the code'?
Slap in the face.
If I'd had other options, I would likely agree with you that it was bittersweet.

I know what you mean, it would've been better if there were f/f options in ME2. One can only hope for ME3.
