I don't understand the secrecy behind the s/s options. Especially not with the blantant way the m/f options have been given.

Me neither, and I personally couldn't care less about them.  Not that I don't support their inclusion or anything.

Just saying it is odd, I don't get it, and I'm not potentially biased either.

Verric -- besides being a disgusting dwarf -- is the narrator. Now, I know that most people that complain about romance options don't care about what works and what doesn't work from a character/story point of view, but come on. You can't have the narrator in love with you. That's just basic 101.

SmokePants - besides being a disgusting dwarf-hater - is correct.  The status of Varric as the narrator is a pretty big deal, and people have speculated as to how that would work without coming off as odd before.

Ignoring how you insulted the guy, how is it basic for the narrator to not love your character? Please, explain.

Looks like I will be romancing... nobody! Woo hoo! *throws confetti*

However the side stories were very interesting. I think I'll be buddies with some of these characters... provided that they allow it... =]

Wow these stories are fantastic! Thank you Bioware! It's a great read, very interesting and it does encourage to play the game and find out more about those unique characters.
And yayyy! Anders!!!! <3

Man, I am so tired of seeing Fenris/Zevran comparisons. Is it because he's an elf? Everything we've heard about Fenris makes him out to be completely different from Zevran in every way.

I like all of the confirmed romances, and just because you can't be romantically involved with a character doesn't make them any less awesome. Aveline has the potential to be one of my favourite video game characters, and I'm not up in arms because she's not an LI. It would have been nice to romance her, I guess, but that's not why I would like her character.

Romances are an optional part of the game, and BioWare doesn't have to include multiple romances for characters or even romances at all.

Yes, people are unhappy about Fenris mostly because he is an elf :(

Not to mention the fact that they've already revealed which woman Lady Hawke can get it on with...

Well there's that and I want nothing to do with the "Fenris thread version" of Fenris derived from their communal speculation.  Since all I know is he's an escaped slave elf warrior, and not much more about him beyond the fact he is an elf, and I generally dislike them - my current position is unenthusiastic.  But that can and likely will change.

It's Isabela.  That wasn't a secret to anyone at any time.

Thanks to Chris and the Development Team for sharing the stories, I enjoyed every minute of them....and now I have a great excuse to load up 'awakenings' again and take another look at Justice and Anders.

Love your work guys!

Uh, that isn't the question I was asking. I was asking where the Zevran comparisons came from.

Image IPBImage IPBI sooo agree about Fenris/Zevran.  Gaider himself has said they are nothing alike.  And I've yet to get that impression either.  I think people are having a problem getting over appearances.  And race, to me, does not define a character.

I have been a little annoyed at a few responses to Merrill being a romance option. To quote:

"Bioware now finally went the loli route with Merill, no?

Jokes aside, this IS now (I didn't know that Merill was romancable) a dealbreaker for me. And pretty sad actually.

I just hope they don't do the same thing in ME3."

Taken from the Penny Arcade forums.

I think I can understand the thought process behind this: a misunderstanding about small elven physiques, a strong projection of ideals about a given subject. But to not buy the game because of an optional romance? An optional romance between consenting adults? What utter nonsense.

I wonder how this person reconciles his overreaction with reality. I have a Filipino friend who is a year older than me (mid twenties), but looks very much like a teenager. Would the sight of her with a mid sized man be immediately pegged as pedophilia?

God I hate overblown reactions...

You hate overblown reactions?!
I find them funny as hell. Such a small thing to not buy a game over? It's so funny. I just imagine how they live their lives, especially if something goes wrong in it. =]

I find it odd Bioware is releasing this info rather than allowing players to discover the romance options for themselves.

If Anders isn't 100% hetero, I'll eat Andraste's Knicker-weasels. He hit on every woman in sight in Awakening -- he even looked forward to being caught by the female Templar that was after him. Making him "bi" at this point would be a retcon. It has to be the other guy.

Heh. All through Awakening, I was thinking, "Anders, overcompensating much?" I could absolutely believe him as bi, where bi=Kinsey 4 or 5.

I have literally no predictions or expectations, but I wouldn't be shocked if Anders were the bi LI at all. He's not gay, after all, he's bi. He could be in denial about that part of himself. He could just not have met the right guy yet to bring it out of him. There are plenty of people who consider themselves straight for a long time, and then are changed. Anders being bi wouldn't be any sort of retcon, at all ... he'd just need to be quieter about it than his interest in women.

Ser Priestly may we inquire as to which romance are open to which genders?

Remember where I said:
"To learn more about the romances, you will need to play Dragon Age 2."?

Yeah...

Oh yeah, as if any of them were exclusively gay thus making not telling us the same-sex romances (or rather solely the male same-sex romance) a fair situation.

My hope is that they're all available to everyone and BioWare thinks that once we find this out for ourselves, we'll be so delighted that we'll forgive them for not telling us about it sooner :alien:

I was hoping for an Aveline romance, but I have a feeling that Merrill would have taken my top spot anyway.

Oh, you guys are right. I somehow messed those screen shots up...............

Still, I would guess Fenris is the BI option.........hes the elf after all.

And Anders is the one who has a scarf and earrings, among other feminine things, for gifts in Awakening. If we're going to guess who the bi option is based off stereotypes then Anders definitely wins.

I would actually choose Fenris based on a different stereotype. If Fenris can "fight like a Spartan" - and going by the short story he clearly can - why wouldn't he, er, love like a Spartan?

But I am also hoping for the all characters for all players option...

But if it's true I'll make a thread proclaiming my love for BW. And it will reach 100 pages. <3

Anders = BAMF. Merrill, I want to like her, but so far I don't know I feel the Bioware crew aren't giving her enough love. The write up doesn't really show much... strength of personality, and the picture for her concept was a little weak too.

I hope I'm not disappointed with her when the actually game comes out though. =)

...Is there any chance Sebastian could be romanceable? ...plleeeeeeeeeeease?

In my opinion, this is how I perceive the list of LIs:

Anders-witty mage (a.k.a Alistar), been done

Fenris-Thane/Zevran, been done.

Isebella-A dark haired Liliana who knows how to sail.

Merrill-New, can't really compare her.

Absolutely no insult implied to you writers and programmers. This is simply how I am seeing the options.
You've put an amazing game together so far. I was just hoping we could have pushed the envelope a little bit: you did this with the Samara romance (a romance that goes nowhere), but you could have done this with adding Varric in the mix (although you would have faced equal criticism).

That being said, keep going y'all. Can't wait to see the game in March :)

To be fair, I think you can pigeonhole any character into the shape of another character if you generalize enough. Isabela does not strike me as anywhere near as religious, whimsical, or even as girly as Leliana was. They are both rogues, yes, but Isabela is also more sassy and independent. I also think that Fenris is filled with a lot more world weariness and hatred than Thane, the stoic and philisophical alien, or Zevran, the sensual assassin.

I wouldn't mind a Sebastian romance though.  But I suspect since he's DLC, he might not be available due to his wife being murrrdurred or some such. If that is the case, he might end up like Aveline. I really don't think they would unbalance the romance options for male and female players, but I could be wrong.
