This is pretty much spot on. Morrigan and Alistair were the first two characters you encounter, the most important to the plot and consequently they must be straight. I don't think Bioware would want to drive away players by creating a bi character that was important to the story. We already know Merril is important to the plot and is the straight only love interest. So the bi male love interest is definitely Fenris (if we encounter him second).

Though for the record I'm pretty sure you meet Varric before you met Anders. 

I think it makes sense for Bioware to do it this way. I mean there was already a thread in the bioware forum (which is a self selecting group of people who imo are more open minded) complaining about the male Hawke being too gay (which I don't see at all). This way people who are so uncomfortable with it can just push the bi character aside and not miss out on anything important.

I was thinking about that too, but I don't think that counts because Varric is not a LI.

But then, if the characters you meet first are indeed supposed to be straight, how about Isabela? The first female LI you meet I believe and seems to be bi.

I believe you actually meet Merill first. At least during Isabela's recruitment on the livestream she was already in the party.

Though you're right the whole shoving to the side does seem to be the reason. Many complaints about Zevran were answered with a "Just don't recruit him." and "he's an optional party member." 

Though generally speaking the first LI you meet is usually the heterosexual only optons. Generally.

Of course this is only for the games that had s/s options.

It's not who you meet first per se but mainly the character that is most important to the plot.

In the demo Flemeth tells you that she will take you to kirkwall if you deliver something for her to merril. I think the dev's intention is for you meet Merril first.

Oh, but Fenris and Isabela are non-required followers, just like Leliana and Zevran.
Anders and Merrill, on the other hand, are both necessary for the story to progress. Connecting the dots...

No, they stay with you. Or at least, Bethany was still with me in the demo when I was doing Isabela's mission.

I think she means "meet" as in, your character meets them. Bethany and Carver are there in the beginning.

Well Merril def. is important to the plot in some way. Anders I'm not so sure about. It would make sense for him to be important because he is a possessed mage who wants vengeance on the chantry and the focus of the story is the chantry but Fenris is sort of mage adjacent.

Yeah but Isabela's mission is pretty earlier on in the game. 

Edit: Anders is important because supposedly he has a map you need. I also don't think he's optional because you need said map.

The two charactes can be nothing alike. Just because they have a similar race (And this is race not even class) doesn't mean they'rerepeating themselves. 

You might as well add Lesbian human to that. 

And Leliana and Isabela are two very different people. Regardless of both being rogues.

I read the mantra as "everyonehasanoption." Now you've got my head filled with your "they're all bi" idea. Not that I mind, of course.  My m!Hawke would prefer getting together with another mage, one just as templar/chantry-hatin' as he--Anders fits that to a T. If he's not of mind, I'll roll an archer m!Hawke who will try and chat up Sebastian. If he's unavailable as well, poor guy will have to find a corner somewhere and weep the rest of the game and think about what could've been.

I'm an optimist, though, so I'll be playing the game with both m!Hawke's believing their one and only is not just a "hit it and quit it" option or one you simply flirt with, nothing more. YAY FOR OPTIMISM! Yes, this may lead to the inevitable crushing of hopes and dreams, but at least it'll be done optimistically.

I'm just wondering why their so quiet. It's perfectly okay for us to know the straight options but the bi one is a secret? 

I'm starting to think Melonora (spelling is wrong) is right and the bi LI isn't a companion at all. 

As for Isabela...I'm starting to doubt her bi LI status too.

The bi romances are Isabella and Fenris. Hmm.. I guess they are both interesting characters. At first glance I like Isabella a lot more but Fenris could be interestign depending on how his companion quest plays out. I thought Zevran's and Leilanna's companion quests were kind of boring so hopefully they are better this time around.

Did you play the demo? Isabella is clearly a bi romance option.
And a bioware dev clearly said there would be a male bi option as well. That option is Fenris. I am almost 100% sure of it. The only way it's not fenris is if  Sebastian vael is romanceable and they just didn't list him in this thread for some reason.

Because she hits on F!Hawke? The devs already said you can flirt with certian characters and it wouldn't necessarily lead to a romance. 

Male bi option =/= male bi companion. The romance could be with a NPC.

Yeah...but if they were all bi a reviewer would've said something and not just a generic "unconstrained" ambigious quote.
