Good thing Varric isn't an LI, that guy is the very definition of creepy.

In my opinion, this is how I perceive the list of LIs:

Anders-witty mage (a.k.a Alistar), been done

Fenris-Thane/Zevran, been done.

Isebella-A dark haired Liliana who knows how to sail.

Merrill-New, can't really compare her.

Absolutely no insult implied to you writers and programmers. This is simply how I am seeing the options.
You've put an amazing game together so far. I was just hoping we could have pushed the envelope a little bit: you did this with the Samara romance (a romance that goes nowhere), but you could have done this with adding Varric in the mix (although you would have faced equal criticism).

That being said, keep going y'all. Can't wait to see the game in March :)

To be fair, I think you can pigeonhole any character into the shape of another character if you generalize enough. Isabela does not strike me as anywhere near as religious, whimsical, or even as girly as Leliana was. They are both rogues, yes, but Isabela is also more sassy and independent. I also think that Fenris is filled with a lot more world weariness and hatred than Thane, the stoic and philisophical alien, or Zevran, the sensual assassin.

I wouldn't mind a Sebastian romance though.  But I suspect since he's DLC, he might end up having a wife or some such. I really don't think they would unbalance the romance options for male and female players, but I could be wrong.

If Sebastian was bi it wouldn't unbalance the romance options. However, I doubt he is romanceable to begin with.

I doubt this.
But if it's true I'll make a thread proclaiming my love for BW. And it will reach 100 pages. <3

What?! What happened to your perky optimism from a few pages back? Keep your chin up, yo!

Bioware neither confirmed nor denied that any characters were love interests before this thread was created...What forumites happen to speculate upon and thus feel outraged when their speculation is not proven accurate is the fault of the forumites, not the developer.

Woot for no Varric...Avaline I am alright with, yes for anders and yes for Fenrir....The Merril love interest bores me, and of course we already know Isabella's angle.

I am a dwarf at heart (battleaxe fantasy kind, not the short stature...normal person kind) and I am glad that Varric is not a LI. Having a lover talking about the story of Hawke could get very, very awkward. Image IPB

Thanks to Bioware for announcing both the characters themselves and also the splendid backstories about each one of them. Image IPB

I am afraid it would unbalance it. It would leave hetero men lacking.

Careful.  I think he said that no particular characters were confirmed as LIs.  WHich is not entirelky correct, but close enough to not warratn such a harsh response.

Judging from the M/M thread, there's going to be a lot of disappointed people with whoever the LI is. Why not say it now so people don't get their hopes up only to have them crushed when they find out in game? What's the point in us having to wait when everyone else already knows who they can romance?

Unless we're lucky enough to have everyone be bi but my inner pessimist is saying "Keep dreaming".

It's still wrong. Isabela was confirmed from nearly her first trailer.

And yes Gaider let the cat out of the bag early.

I was not saying that the game would not have love interests nor s/s love interests...I was talking about the individual Love threads that are created as soon as a character was announced.

Bioware neither confirmed nor denied (until today) that the characters in these threads would actually be LIs in game.

Please try to understand and read an entire post before lashing out, thanks. Image IPB

I find it odd you have a Witcher 2 banner on a bioware forum.

Love the work guys, thanks for the great characterization.

Man, I am so tired of seeing Fenris/Zevran comparisons. Is it because he's an elf? Everything we've heard about Fenris makes him out to be completely different from Zevran in every way.

  • elf
  • slave
  • efficient and skilled killer
  • on the run from his former master(s)
On the other hand, the tiny bit we've seen suggests a very different personality than Zev.

Since a point of agreement seems like a good place to leave this particular semi-OT tangent... I'm not a fan of Tali as a romance either for various reasons, none of which are - obviously - on topic themselves.
