Always seemed like a very whimpy knockoff of Alistair - whiny without the sweetness and good sense of humor.

I thought the inverse. Anders was the funnier less whingy version of Alistair imo.

I have to agree with Karily, Alistair wasn't whiny, he was grieving (although some people can't seem to understand that:bandit:) and Anders always seemed like a cheap Alistair knock off but without the stuff that made Alistair awesome (imo obviously =]) I always like Nathaniel way better in awakening, I'm still hoping he makes an appearance, maybe he'll be the secret companion because he comes to arrest Anders for betraying the wardens and so you decide who to help and in the end you can choose between anders and nathaniel :o that would be as awesome as it is unlikely

I just got a shock at how eerily logical that could be and then dulled out when I realized 'Why would he stay though?' But does that mean that Anders' lovers would be replaced by Nathaniel's admirers?:?

Ugh... I'm lost in a pool of my thoughts for future outcomes...

Confirmed that Chris was in charge of the romances. Game-changer, y'all! This changes the game.

If Chris were in charge of romances, there would be no romances :crying:

Good thing he's not, and they're all bi.

I am a gamer, 45, heterosexual and female - Hi :D I don't fit your stereotype ^ there at all ;)

I do think however that, you know, we are all the same here - straight/gay/bi, we all have our own preferences and if there are heterosexual romance options then there should the same option for homosexual men, lesbians and bisexual men/women, it is only fair. To say otherwise is to discriminate :( I feel strongly that the experience should be as full for everyone as it is for heterosexual men..... <_<

Haha, no you most certainly don't, but I did say "most" and not "all"! Actually, since I'm 24, I don't even know any 30+ year old gamers ._. I'm not trying to stereotype all the female gamers who are really into m/m or f/f romance or anything, though. Just trying to give an honest insight into the ones I do know about :D Actually, I'm really curious -- why are you really into the m/m and f/f ones?

I'm a 37 year old gaming woman who is profoundly into men, and not even slighly interested in s/s characters. So, I guess I don't fit the mold either.
:D

I never even considered a romance RPG possibility until I played Jade Empire, many years ago and on the original xbox. Now, I have to say, I am addicted to Bioware games because of the romance element. It's pretty funny to think that pixels on a screen can get you hot...but there you go. Hooray for the digital dirty.

I just feel like it's a wonderful part of a well-told story. Sure, there have been stories where love hasn't featured, but they were boring. The best tales throughout history have been essentially love stories, from the Oddysey to A Tale of Two Cities.

*does a double-take*...wait WHAT? That's immensely subjective obviously but there are plenty of great stories throughout history that aren't love stories or don't involve love at all.

They talk about how relationships with characters develop over the 10 year time frame. So I'm really wondering how they'll develop the LI through the course of the 10 years, and how it might change from flirty to serious to really serious and such.

Name a few. I'm not saying that there aren't any, not by a long shot. But a great many of the "classics" have had love at their hearts or close to them.

That would actually be quite interesting if over the course of 10 years, you could explore the possibility of difficulties within your chosen romance. A few fights? Add a touch of reality in there....and also the great hate or make-up sex which could follow. It can't all be roses and blushes over so many years.

I know people are going to cringe all over the world and back when I mention this, but one thing that came to mind was some form of marrage as well. I mean it is over the course of ten years. But I'm really just speculating.

I remember going out with two friends a few years ago - a straight friend and a gay friend and we went round a few pubs/bars and towards the end of the night he suggested we got to a well known gay bar and my female friend said (no word a lie) ''I don't want to go to a gay bar, why would I want to do that?'', Her complete lack of self awareness left me dumbfounded, he had been all round town with us in 'straight', pubs, never moaned once and asked if we could finish the night in one gay bar and she objected? < It's that kind of attitude really on here with the ss options that I find really thoughtless......... We are all paying for the game so we all should get the full experience.

If she wanted to find a sex partner for the night then going to gay bar could had affected negatively the options in chosing one.

+ if you buy a game it doesn't mean you are entitled to something. Like if you buy a book or movie describing heterosexual sex scenes you are by all means not entitled to read/see homosexual sex scenes too in it rofl.

Marriage? Maybe. The devs haven't commented on it. Kids are out, though.

Yeah I know kids are out, that would be incredibly complicated to work with anyway.

But I'm mostly just wondering what directions a relationship in the game could go through the course of those ten years. Thoughts?

Ah, but do those stories make enjoyable video games?   :D

I think Bioware is smart to lure the romance-reading population into gaming via the delicious little romance threads which have now become standard fare for the games they make. They could even push the gaming envelope a little farther if they wanted to- an interactive romance story game. If it were even moderately well done/produced, it would be a hit with bored housewives the world over. Why bother to read a print novel, when you could have a tv screen full of your own beautiful Highland warrior, voiced by a man with a sexy brogue? I think there's a huge market there, just waiting for its collective bodice to be ripped!

Erm, unless you're referring to a different Art of War, that isn't a story, it's Sun Tzu's personal tips on kicking ass.

And quite a few of the Canterbury Tales deal with love.

If it's not love, it's war.
Canturbury tales is an anthology of poems... not entirely relevant.
Again, a collection of stories whose purpose is to do something other than tell a story.
Not even fiction.
Vastly inferior to Huck Finn, which has lots of love.
Never even heard of Treehouse Kids.
Boxcar Children, while entertaining, are not quite on the level of A Tale of Two Cities.

Yes but the story of cantubury tales are in fact a group of people telling tales so I am in a way right as you are too, and she said classics, no specification not my fault
