They talk about how relationships with characters develop over the 10 year time frame. So I'm really wondering how they'll develop the LI through the course of the 10 years, and how it might change from flirty to serious to really serious and such.

That would actually be quite interesting if over the course of 10 years, you could explore the possibility of difficulties within your chosen romance. A few fights? Add a touch of reality in there....and also the great hate or make-up sex which could follow. It can't all be roses and blushes over so many years.

I know people are going to cringe all over the world and back when I mention this, but one thing that came to mind was some form of marrage as well. I mean it is over the course of ten years. But I'm really just speculating.

I like the idea of marriage, and it especially seems to fit in the DA world.

Name a few. I'm not saying that there aren't any, not by a long shot. But a great many of the "classics" have had love at their hearts or close to them.

Catch-22, Old Man and the Sea, Tom Sawyer, Grapes of Wrath, Animal Farm, To Kill a Mockingbird...just off the top of my head.

I think Bioware is smart to lure the romance-reading population into gaming via the delicious little romance threads which have now become standard fare for the games they make. They could even push the gaming envelope a little farther if they wanted to- an interactive romance story game. If it were even moderately well done/produced, it would be a hit with bored housewives the world over. Why bother to read a print novel, when you could have a tv screen full of your own beautiful Highland warrior, voiced by a man with a sexy brogue? I think there's a huge market there, just waiting for its collective bodice to be ripped!

This is an awesome idea. Props

I just feel like it's a wonderful part of a well-told story. Sure, there have been stories where love hasn't featured, but they were boring. The best tales throughout history have been essentially love stories, from the Oddysey to A Tale of Two Cities.

*does a double-take*...wait WHAT? That's immensely subjective obviously but there are plenty of great stories throughout history that aren't love stories or don't involve love at all.

Ah, but do those stories make enjoyable video games?   :D

I would have to agree with you. Its easier to weave a wonderful story when there is some romantic element entwined with other great story elements like redemption, revenge or sacrifice.

Animal Farm wasn't that great. Orwell's "classic" would probably be 1984, which was very much about love. Catch-22 is about war, which is #2 to love. Tom Sawyer, as I said before, isn't a classic. And it probably has love in it too, but I can't remember what happened. To Kill a Mockingbird was most definitely about love.

And I haven't read The Grapes of Wrath.

Anyway, I'm clearly going to have an answer for any book you throw at me  And this is only tangentially on-topic. So, back to all the LIs being bi.

"Paradise Lost" is absolutely about love. In Moby Dick, the relationship between Ahab and the whale is practically love. And I'm not sure you've read 1984.

TKaMB is about romantic love? Animal Farm v 1984 is a very subjective call, I prefer the former. You really should read Steinbeck. War doesn't count? Your proposition was that the vast majority of classics are about romance and love and that's patently not true.

I do agree its off-topic though, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. I just resent the implication that a story NEEDS romance in it to be a epic, which is not true. DAO or BG2 are still epic stories even if you don't romance anyone.

Absolutely. The more gut-twisting and heartstring-pulling, the better...and, of course, lots of sex.

Woohoo, I never said romantic love. Depending on your character, 80% of BGII could be about your love for Imoen. A story doesn't need romance, but when well-implemented, romance is a wonderful supplement to an epic.

Well, I disagreed with you when you responded to a post that specifically talked about being addicted to BioWare games due to the romance, and you said every great story has been essentially a love story. Implying romantic love especially when your examples are Odysseus and Tale of Two Cities.

If I misread the intent of that then I have fewer problems with that statement. You CAN do an epic story without some kind of love (parental, sibling, platonic) but its very hard. Catch-22 is all about Yossarian's love for his fellows for example.

Love was thrown into the story but it was definitely not about love in 1984, and Tom Sawyer not a classic, ummm yeah it is, and no romance in there, and no paradise lost was not even about Adam and eve, the protagonist was Satan and the antagonist was god, it was not ALL about love, please do yourself a favor and take a class, you can say Dante's Devine comedy is about love but not paradise lost

I'm curious as to whether the "lovemaking scenes" will still retain the small clothes like the ones used in DA:O? I would assume so. Anyone have a clue?

I saw some very racy mods for pc, but as a 360 player, I don't get to fiddle that way. *pouts*

Well, that's what I get for replying to a post when what I have to say is really completely independent of it :P Romantic love is just the most visible and identifiable brand, and sexytimes are fun.

Yes, I assume so to keep a M rating.

I'd be ok if they frankly did away with the sex scenes altogether, did nothing for me. Kiss then fade to black is ok by me.

1984 is absolutely about love. Tom Sawyer is not a classic, especially when it always hangs out next to the vastly superior Huck Finn. And Paradise Lost is about God's love for mankind and how far it actually goes.

I would totally let this go, but I don't appreciate being told to "take a class." We were just having a discussion, there's no need to be rude.

I'm happy with the choices of the romanceable people.

oh, and I guess I'll add. I am a straight 35 year old gamer girl. ( I look kind of like my dwarf avatar. plus I'm short and curvy lol ) I play characters in rpgs as straight, gay or lesbian. The characters are not me, so, why not? I am a huge Zev fan and I love his romance so I play it most of the time no matter what sex my character is. I also made a dwarf noble that has both Leli and Mori after him. lol, I can play the game f/f too. It does not bother me in the least. it's called role playing for a reason :D
