EDIT: Just how many Doctor Who's were there?

We're up to 12.  And that's not counting Rowan Atkinson.  Or the Valeyard.

He generally seems to get younger with each regenation as well, starting out as an old guy back in the 60's, wonder if that means he'll end up as a small child in his final incarnation?

You can flirt with Aveline and Varric and Sebastian as well.

So once again I ask how is it obvious that Fenis, Isabela, Anders, and Merill are romance options from the beginning of the game?
[/quote]

If Anders is in fact possessed by Justice, then I don't see how he can be even a character in the first "Act" of the game (where Hawk first goes to Kirkwall) ... short of having Morrigan's Trevinter mirror or something. Since Justice doesn't drop from the fade until after the archdemon is killed ... and Hawk's prologue is obviously the flight from Lothering after Ostragar ... seems like Anders / Justice could hardly appear until 10 years later. Can't wait to see how it plays out, though!

Garrett Hawke doesn't care if they're all bi as long as he can have Fenris. Marian on the other hand is saying yes please because we all know that two's a company, three's a crowd and four's a party!

I read that as an RPG joke, haha. I agree re: needing Fenris. I also need Anders. I'd like to have both of them at the same time, and maybe they can fool around a bit while I watch I'll take what I can get.

There's a reason I love this thread, and these two posts are part of that reason. <3

The first Act probably encompasses a few years.  I don't think they're doing 10 years with each year an act.  But 3 or 4 acts as per the standard that encompass a few years each.

I believe that would be me, Karily! From the console commands / set relationship triggers for Fenris, it looks like there's at least 3 stages of the romance (something like romance, intimate, and completed) and I'm thinking you can't progress that status unless a time jump occurs, so at least 3 years. That's my two cents.

So can I only flirt with Sebastian? No real romance possible???? :o

I am not really thrilled about Anders and Fenris

orly? We have hard-coded romance factoids from the demo? Why was I not told? *fires researcher* (*from a cannon*) (*into the lair of a dragon*)

Hmm. Well this is interesting, and it makes sense that it would develop over time. I guess that's what we sort of expected anyway.

I have a question though: was there any information hidden away in those intriguing codey parts that hinted at differences for friendship/rivalry romances?

And also, what do they mean by 'completed'? Is this going to be another unfortunate case of 'hey, well done kids! You bumped uglies and now have nothing to say to each other for the rest of the game. Your romance is COMPLETED'? Because I would be disappoint.

Current theory on Sebastian:

He wasn't announced as a LI because he's not a part of the main game, he's optional DLC.  However, there are reasons to remain hopeful.

- The Dragon Age team have voiced an interest in creating a DLC LI in the past, and Sebastian looks very much like someone who would be a LI.  Dashing good looks, attractive voice, intriguing 'reclaim the throne' storyline.  That doesn't mean he will be a LI based off looks alone, but he's suspiciously attractive, dammit.

- He's got Alistair-like potential, as far as his personal quest goes.  He's an exiled prince trying to reclaim his throne.  Someone earlier in the thread (don't remember who) mentioned that it would be intriguing to rule side-by-side with Sebastian.

- Shale in DAO was a very developed character, and probably a fan favorite.  She had lot's to say in various situations, and the Anvil of the Void quest was of specific interest to her.  It's possible BW would take their success one step further in DA2 by creating a fleshed out DLC companion who also had LI potential.

- People who didn't pre-order the SE may be more inclined to purchase the DLC if they have more incentive.  The romances aren't important to everyone, but they are a much beloved element of the games, so it's possible putting in the extra effort would boost DLC sales.

- There is a slight possibility that I'm saying all of this because I have a love for gingers and Scottish accents, and refuse to give hope just yet.

I am sure he is an important/fully developed character. In the recent mage pictures they posted for mage week, the dev that took the screenshots had him the party (he appears in 2 pictures).

I think Bioware is smart to lure the romance-reading population into gaming via the delicious little romance threads which have now become standard fare for the games they make. They could even push the gaming envelope a little farther if they wanted to- an interactive romance story game. If it were even moderately well done/produced, it would be a hit with bored housewives the world over. Why bother to read a print novel, when you could have a tv screen full of your own beautiful Highland warrior, voiced by a man with a sexy brogue? I think there's a huge market there, just waiting for its collective bodice to be ripped!
:kissing:

This is an awesome idea. Props

Thank you very much. Do you think game developers will listen?   B)

I absolutely agree - just wish I were young enough to learn game design and start my own company dedicated to this sort of interactive romance! It's crazy that most game developers target teenaged and young adult males and seem to think that old ladies like me are only interested in hidden object games. :P That why I adored DAO - the potential for multiple romance storylines and endings based upon player choice (just think of what one could do with a story like Gone With The Wind if you had the opportunities to influence Scarlett's choices). :D

Exactly. Really, the idea just needs a woman (or a man brave enough) with vision and know-how to make it work. If you think of the profits made in romance books, and all of the romance sub-genres...it's staggering. I know I personally fork out plenty of money if the story is good, and I can't get it at the library. There is a huge market there comprised of woman over the age of 30. Good grief, I would LOVE an interactive Gone With The Wind- what fun to rip Rhett's clothes off after he carries you up the stairs, eh? Or something historical around the time of Braveheart. There are just so many possibilities.

Also, following the same line of thought, there really is a huge market in this for teens as well. How many girls are buying and reading paranormal romance? So, why isn't there an interactive vampire romance or werewolf or fallen angel game for teens? I know alot of young women that would drop-kick their Halo playing brothers out the door for a chance to play a game like that. Game developers are seriously missing the boat here! The boy market is well covered with all the zombie and shooter games, but what girl wouldn't pay $60 to have her own game where she gets to kiss a vampire??? Sheesh, game companies really need to listen and start making the kind of games that will attract more women- young and old. It just seems so obvious...

*SNIP MANY COMPELLING REASONS*

Don't forget that, as far as BioWare is concerned, used or second-hand game sales make them zero money. Those people aren't their consumers. Everyone who buys this game first-hand gets Seb, so it's not like "only 30% of the fans will enjoy him" -- it's "100% of the paying customers who make it possible for us to develop games in the first place will enjoy this." I think that's the most compelling one of all.

Also, I've been waiting for you to post. So that I could compliment your signature, your stylish outfits, your body, and just generally make you uncomfortable with the level of interest I am showing in you.

@lilliful Denied? DENIED? DENIED?

*peril*

*has conniption fit*

I approve of 'Active', 'Committed', and 'Intimate'. I fret over 'Completed'. I'm already crying over 'Ended'. And I'm ready to fall on my sword over 'Denied'.

But thank you, my liege, for your dedication to the romance cause. *bows*
