Thats a pretty wild assumption. The game spans ten years, she would have time to grieve and move on.
Jahiera.
Aveline is a different character. That said, Jaheira's romance was... awkward...

Is it a crime to want a hetero-exclusive romance with a female companion? Morrigan was rather unsatisfying.

I'm not sure what her level of heterosexuality was...

I know all this. I'm not against the LGBT community wanting equal treatment (i'd prefer that over people fighting with each other, though i guess my other post would make some think otherwise). I just like the idea of having to play both genders to unlock romance possibilities. This all bi thing justifies playing one gender for some people. Don't get me wrong, the all bi thing isn't enough to make me not buy the game. I'm still buying it and will thoroughly enjoy playing it.

If Merrill was Fem only, you'd romance her gladly with LadyHawke then?
I want them all to be bi but will still play both genders. Though, all my Hawke's will be totally gay.

Merrill's the only one I want to romance, so yeah I'd romance her as FemHawke. I fully support gay and bi romances for people that really want them. I'm no homophobe or biphobe. We're all human (dwarf/elf for you fanatics), after all. The darkspawn are the real enemies.
My plan, too!jlb524 wrote...

Maybe the femhawke was really a male hawke but in DA:2 you can cross dress making a male hakwe look like a female hawke. Then Bioware would REALLY be catering to everyone.

Personally, I get tired of the over-saturation of heterosexual pairngs in the vast majority of popular media and thus desire to only play homosexual characters when I have the choice...for the most part (with few exceptions).
Though, I'm not much interested in Merrill, I think it would still be nice for those that only want to romance her with a female (for whatever reason) to have that option. I may try Merrill if she's an f/f option and who knows, I might like her...we'll have to see I guess.

not diving too deep in this, but since hawke would in this case id as female it'd make her sorta bi anyways. uhm, can't we just agree that this categories suck nonetheless and only complicate everything? *deep sigh*JoshPloof wrote...
Hey wait... Maybe those screenshots of Merill and femhawke doesn't mean that Merill is bi. Maybe the femhawke was really a male hawke but in DA:2 you can cross dress making a male hakwe look like a female hawke. Then Bioware would REALLY be catering to everyone.

Well, to be completely fair, this isn't an uncommon notion. To quote TVTropes, "...a lot of both straight and gay people appear to believe that bisexuals are somehow 'cheating' by playing both sides of the field. All may be fair in love and war but there's something about the idea of losing someone to the opposing team that makes the 'betrayal' worse because that's the one level where people who are exclusively straight or gay are either unwilling or unable to compete."
For me, this manifests when Zevran reminds my male Warden that he prefers females. ...like, a lot. When I run a game as a female Warden and enter a romance with Zevran, I always feel a pang of regret and longing on behalf of my male Warden, who will never be what Zevran wants the most. Even though my male Warden is losing Zevran to his alternate reality, female-Warden self (who is, at the end of the day, still me, the player) there's just just something about losing him to the "opposite team" that hurts in a real way.
And I know that it's not rational! But to say that such feelings are completely unfounded would be unfair.

It sounds awfully like a personal issue. If we want to speak of what is and is not fair, asking that other players be restricted because of your own personal insecurity seems to fit the bill for not being so.

Yeah, a straight monogamous guy like myself has every right to fear that his bisexual girlfriend might leave him for another bisexual girl or lesbian. "She understands me more than you do" or "She's better than you are." That second one really, really, REALLY hurts.......but I digress. I certainly support having bi/gay romances, i'm just apprehensive to the "all bi" thing. But whatever. At least, Merrill will be straight with my male Hawke.

I don't know why anyone would want to romance Merill. She was annoying in the Dalish Elf origin story, and by the short story, she still seems annoying and meek and unsure of herself. I prefer people who are more present and know what they want and how they want it. Which is why I only romanced Morrigan and Zevran throughout all my playthroughs. I guess it's preference though.
