And as for straight guys playing girls and romancing guys...  just no.  That's like saying you believe in Heaven AND ghosts.  They are mutually exclusive lol.

They're called Catholics, actually.

I snipped the rest of your post, but it's all relevant to what I'm about to say. I usually try and not involve myself when things get hairy. This is my pet issue, so I'm happy to have reasonable discourse with reasonable people. People like you, I try not to comment on. But, your post couldn't be ignored. You're possibly the biggest douchebag, the absolute most asinine **** I've ever read on these forums.

Not the HOLY Ghost.  Just ghosts in general.  Spirits who never moved on.  I'm not religious at all, and even I know that the Bible says that hey, when you die you're eternal spirit goes to Heaven or Hell.  Some believe in Purgatory.  That's it.  There's no "sticking around" according to Christianity.
.

Just wanted to point out that all the Catholics I know believe in ghosts not the Holy Ghost (well they believe that too) but in "Boo, I'm going to haunt you" kinda ghost.

That's my point.  It's hypocritical.  Every time I meet someone who's religious who says they believe in ghosts I can't help but crack up.  If the Bible is true, then ghosts cannot exist.  Simple as that.

Thanks for pointing this out. I didn't want to reply to him, so it's good someone else did. Catholocism is a highly superstitious religion (I don't mean this pejoratively... I'm not Catholic, but it's one of the aspects of the faith that I most admire). A literal belief in the possibility of demonic possession goes hand-in-hand with a lot of things that fall under the umbrella of "the supernatural."

That's why I put in my opinion in the very next sentence.

You said Morrigan's was better in you opinion.  Your comment on Leliana's romance being worse was written in away that implied you were putting it forward as a fact.;)

But if that's not what you intended, I apologize.

All companions should be romanceable, even non companions should be romanceable because I would like them to be. See how this could dilute romances? I agree with obsessedwjpn on this one. There comes a point where minority or not the law of averages needs to make sense.

The Bible doesn't say anything one way or another about where the dead go, actually.

Heaven/Hell/ghosts all came about much, much later.

This post highlights what's wrong with our culture today.  The majority is guilted into apologizing for being the majority.

So here's my apology.  I'm sorry that I'm a straight male who doesn't like to romance dudes in my video games.

But that isn't the only point.  Leliana was written as gender neutral, and her romance suffered because of it.  Morrigan's romance was more fleshed out and interesting, at least in my opinion.  So writing ALL of the romances as gender neutral would take away from ALL the romances, damaging the experience of the many for the experience of the few.

That's odd, because in my play-throughs I found Leliana's romance to be the most nuanced, tragic, and redeeming in the entire game.  It's almost like her romance was written differently from Morrigans just in the off chance someone else had a different approach to playing the game and a subjective experience that differed from your own.  But, that's silly.  After all, you speak for the vast, overwhelming majority of players and fans, and thus your game experience is the only worth considering.  Every other choice, romance, character, and point-of-view in the game is simply Bioware catering to the unwashed minority and eagerly, purposefully diminishing their own product.

Obviously.

Furthermore, in Catholocism, the word of the Pope trumps the bible, so...

I would like to see the study you performed to come to this conclusion.  I expect control and test groups and double blind procedures.

How significant was the effect?

I can't quite tell if you're joking...

You offered a rationalization.  I'm asking you to justify it.

It's one thing to present the opinion "I like X over Y."  It's another thing to try defining the reasons why "it was written this way" and quantitizing the elements "more fleshed out".  I would like to know how you came up with such detailed explanation.  You apparently have excluded the elements of them being written by different authors and the contributing factors of performance.  How?

Have you ever read the Bible?  The New Testemant references Heaven and Hell many times.  Depending on which version it also mentions Purgatory.  It's been awhile since I've read the Old Testemant, so I couldn't say about that part.

Speaking as a straight male, who hasn't ever done a m/m romance, I'm gonna have to say this: suck it up. The romances are optional. You don't ever have to romance a dude, regardless of whether or not it's in the game.

And the majority should apologize, seeing as it is the majority by right of genocide, rape and slavery. Ah, well. An old war, and one for another day.

When was Leliana's romance ever tragic?  And I agree with another poster on these forums that Leliana's story felt like a lesbian romance with a male part tacked on.  All you had to do was talk to her and say some nice things and BAM you're in a romance doing the nasty.

Morrigan's on the other hand was written for a male character.  She pulled me in and pushed me away.  She used me and loved me at the same time.  And the part when I refused to do the Dark Ritual was probably the best romance cutscene I've ever scene.

I've read the Bible more times than anyone should ever have to, and I'm going to tell you right now that Heaven and Hell were developed later (they didn't exist in First Century Judiaism, of which Christianity is a sect)

Christ never once says that if you do good things, you go up, and if you do bad things, you down. Totally a Late Roman/Early Medieval invention.

Strange.  I don't remember raping, enslaving or killing anybody.  You'd think that would be something I would remember.

And I'm telling the bi/gay people to suck it up.  They get one for each gender.  That's it.

Every member of your party being bisexual is not realistic characterization wise.  Bis/Gays make up about 8 percent of the population, and you want 66 % of your party to be that way?

Really?  There are population statistics for THEDAS?  I'd love to see where this is located.  In the wiki, perhaps?

Posted Image

Posted Image I got a good laugh out of this lol.  I was just using a reasonable assumption that Thedas's populations were at least reasonably close to the real world.  My only point is:

Why should the devs cater to 8% of the population?  I'd rather them not waste the time and resources making EVERYONE bi when those same resources could be used to flesh out other romances that a majority of people will actually want to play.  I think that they should feel lucky to have bi/gay romances at all.

And as for straight guys playing girls and romancing guys...  just no.  That's like saying you believe in Heaven AND ghosts.  They are mutually exclusive lol.

Actually, I do believe in Heaven and ghosts. I'm partially Native American, though admittedly I do not know much about my heritage as I should, but I have lately gotten the sense that a spirit has been around me for quite some time. They are not mutually exclusive.

STOP FEELING BAD. :P *gives you cake*  I already told you this, but I don't necessarily disagree with your fears.  I don't agree with them either, because the game isn't out yet.  Until it is, we can't (fairly) judge the quality of the romances in DA2, but you're probably one of the least offensive people I've met on these boards, so stop worrying, dearie.

;)
