Hah, it's not the s/s flirtation that bugs me (Zevran was a favorite from Origins), but the trouble it gets you into with your established romanctic interest. I give Morrigan her mirror and get scolded by Leliana for sleeping around? I'd like to avoid situations like that, if at all possible.

That being said, thanks for the info. The convo wheel will benefit from the symbols, I think, so long as they're all as clear as the romantic options.

Ah, then my apologies. I think I'm merging too many arguments I'm seeing into one atm. ;)

Well said, I've been ninjamanced while playing a Male Warden by Morrigan and Leliana, and MShep has been ninja'd by Liara and Ashley before. It really does boil down to, as you say, a faulty game mechanic, which inevitably stems from textual or vocal dialogue being unable to universally convey its tonality without it being clearly displayed in text or imagery.

Indeed. I'm hoping the icon system will help a great deal with this. No system is fool-proof, and there likely will always be someone who picks something without realising what it would lead to, but you live and learn and just don't pick that next time.

And anyway, I certainly know that sometimes I say things irl in a tone I didn't intend, and I know I can't control how others will respond to me either. It's just one of those things.

No need, there's no argument here - I'm a believer that the player can only benefit from the added variety, no matter what their orientation.

Irl wise: I met a guy the other day, the way he spoke to me and the things he said, well let's just say it was universally agreed between my friends and I that he was hitting on me, hard and blatantly. Well, turns out he wasn't, he was just a nice guy who kept picking the paragon option without realizing the risks.

While I don't have any interest in the bi relationships, I am all for the variety for the people that want it. I'm just hoping it's like some have said, they're bi or straight depending on how you choose to play.

I don't really want Anders or Fenris hitting on my Hawke dude all the time, unless I make the first move kinda thing. Maybe I'm being a bit too picky, but that's how I feel. That being said if it does work that way, I hope it's handled in a humorous way, it'd be interesting to see how Hawke turns them down with voice acting this time.

I'm pretty sure they haven't implemented it that way, because regardless of sexuality it would be incredibly annoying (not to mention poorly written) if a character you weren't romancing was constantly hitting on you. As long as you don't pick the heart dialogue options for that character, you shouldn't have any problems.

That said, it is completely realistic for someone of any gender to mention they think you're attractive. Whether you like them doing it or not is up to you, but it happens. As long as the heart icon is there so you remain in control of the situation there is no problem.

I absolutely agree. Like I said, however they choose to do it will be fine I'm sure. I found the Zevran thing humorous, and he shook it off and that was that, and we were Bro's.

That being said, using that logic, in life, there are also a lot of people that you might be attracted to you, but wouldn't reciprocate that feeling. While I know it's all but been confirmed that Anders, for example, is Bi, what if he wasn't? I'm sure a lot of people would be upset about that too, and I could use the same arguement you just did, some people won't reciprocate your feelings. It's just a different way of looking at it.

Like I said, I'm happy however they do it, it's what makes the games awesome, everyone can experience them in their own unique way, and I'm all for that. Can't wait to discuss everyone's experiences with it after they'd played it!

Indeed. And they are exploring that dynamic by letting you flirt with non-LI companions and NPCs. For example, Aveline. I'm really interested in how that works out, and whether flirting with those companions who aren't LIs will affect your relationship with them in other ways.

And of course, adding the ability to flirt with characters who aren't LIs, who knock you back, adds to the realism of the whole game. It's no longer about 4 LIs who are treated as different types of characters to everyone else, but now there are just lots of different characters you can flirt with, and 4 of them will be receptive to it. I think that's a really good step forward in creating a more dynamic world.

Oh that's interesting, I wasn't aware of that! I must of missed that information somewhere.  I agree that is a good step forward, I'm interested to see how that will work as well. It would be neat to see if, say for example, you flirt with Aveline, and only her, and have no other romance, if perhaps at the very end, it finally worked out or something, that'd be cool.

just saying, it could just be friendly teasing you know

not saying i dont mind, just doesnt seem likely for them all to be bisexual even using the "evidence"

i might even play fem!hawke rogue going for merill first

Actually, what you're saying, and these are your own words mind you

doesn't seem like what bioware would do

And I call into question your capability to interpret Bioware's behavior patterns into a functional predictive model.

Whether I like this or not depends on how its done. I'm all for all romances being available to both genders, I think that's great. I would like to know about how its done though. I want Isabela to remain bisexual regardless of your gender, as that fits her character. I don't know enough about Fenris or Merril to say anything, really, whether they have them bi or subjective is fine by me. To me, and I know many of you disagreee, Anders was straight in Awakening. Therefore, I hope he is subjective in 2, so that if I play a female, that 'reality' where he is straight remains a valid one. If not, i'll be modding those lines to trigger only with a male. Its about consistency, not homophobia. I may be a straight woman, but I thoroughly enjoy my slash.

(I also apologise to you Ish, I think you were offended by a poorly worded post in another discussion, and I am sorry for that.)

Depending on how its implement, Fem!Hawke will have Anders, or no-one if I have a problem with the dialogue. Man!Hawke definitely gets Fenris. I have no problems with him being bi for both / gay for male as he is not an established character, plus, hot.

I replied to you in the other thread, but I'll repost my answer to this here :) People who don't know about Karl shouldn't read the following.

Anders is bi no matter what gender you are. Merrill and Fenris are likely "subjective."

My guess is that, because of they way Anders acted in Awakening, the writers felt the need to justify the fact that the character can like men in anyone's game.

Fenris is an amnesiac and a new character. Merrill's interaction with us was so limited that no one can say
anything about her sexuality. She could have been a full-blown lesbian and we wouldn't have known the difference. They could go either way, and so they do. Fenris is gay, or he's straight. Same with Merrill.

But Anders, however, expressed lots of interest in women, and made only one ambiguously off-color remark toward Nathaniel that could even hint at him liking guys. So, enter Karl. It's a character retcon, plain and simple. BioWare is saying "Actually, Anders has always preferred men, he just never talked about it." Which is fine. But, if it ends up making him a character that you don't like, or don't want to romance, that's just tough. I don't mean that belligerantly. It's just a fact of the character.
