@catabuca: yeah i kind of teetered between the three but after spoiling myself I don't think I could go for Anders. So now for me, it's between the hot, steamy romance, or possibly the cute, innocent (?) romance. well maybe not innocent, but you know what i mean?

Wait... what?
RetroActiv said that a Bethany romance might be "more interesting".
I meant that including Bethany as a romance options would have been more interesting than simply making everyone bi not that it would be more interesting or "above" than bi love intersts in general which I support by the way.
At this point I really don't see sibling romances as being that far off. Anything goes right?
I'm not really a "sibling romance" advocate. lol! I just think having Bethany as a romance option would be intriguing. It's a game for adults and if you aren't mature enough to handle the subject matter even existing then maybe you just shouldn't play the game. Besides it not like it would be mandatory but rather just another option.

Sounds like one of those manga plotlines of having the main male character finding out that he and his sister aren't actually blood related.
Too cliched in my opinion.
I myself had hoped that Cassandra (the seeker girl) would be a LI, kinda sucks how we are stuck with Isabella or an elf, since I'm not really into elves <_< but thats just my opinion.

well maybe there is another female option, since seb is another male LI or perhaps they will plan one for a future dlc or expansion?

It's going to be like a buffet. A big LI buffet.
And not unlike an actual buffet, I will have a difficult time choosing what I want until I wander aimlessly, sticking my finger in each dish to get a little taste.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I think Bioware has good enough writers to avoid cliches and would handle it quite well. How many people are actually so familiar with anime with similar themes anyway? Besides I never said anything about a plotline where they find out they aren't blood related.

Initially the elf thing didn't seem that interesting to me either, but I have been converted by the power of Merrill. Isabella is awesome, and she has a permanant place in my party, but I can't ignore the cute/sweet/butt-kicking mage combination of our errant elvish keeper.
Beyond the in-story aspects of the romance, I am really excited to see how the mechanics of wooing are handled. It sounds like Hawke may have some pretty groan-inducing flirt lines. But I will be happy just so long as it's not on the level of Commander Shepard making doe eyes and using her sexy voice in EVERY conversation with Jacob. That was both annoying and highly creepy.

Thief - I'm totally torn at the moment about whether to go for Anders or Fenris.
Originally it was definitely going to be Anders ... because ... well, it's Anders![]()
But that voiceI'm so tempted by Fenris right now.
I'm torn. TORN I tell you.
I know the feeling. I was so torn between Liara, Ashley, and Tani that I was unable to play ME untill I could make my mind who to chose!

Well, very imperious of you.
Regardless, by "straight romance" I mean, romance story line with a straight LI. And it's a matter of opinion and taste whether that being unavailable is a good thing or a bad thing. Personally I would prefer at least one straight romance story line, because I cannot relate to the bisexual point of view. If you can, that's fine for you- don't tell me how I should feel about it. It's not that big a deal, however. I enjoyed Zevran's romance story line in Origins and I'll wait to see how the romances are implemented to judge those in DA2.
This wasn't supposed to be a personal attack on you. I was talking more about the people that have been openly and unapologetically homophobic. I guess my problem with people saying they wouldn't want to be with someone because they are attracted to both sexes seems closed-minded to me. That being said, I can understand that not everyone thinks the way I do. Evidently there is a straight romance option though if you count Sebastian, but he is a little celibate for my tastes. All in all, I hope that it won't make such a big difference to you. But if you enjoyed Zevran's romance, it probably won't be a huge issue
What is with the gay apologists? Allow me to tell Addai67 that her comment is ridiculous. I can't tell you how to feel, but I can tell you how you feel has streaks of homophobia. If I met someone and we were compatible in every way, and it turned out that they were bi; why would I care as long as they were interested in me in the present. Why would I deny myself a relationship with someone who could be perfect for me based solely on this one fact? This would be prejudice against people who have been in s/s relationships.
Just what do you mean by "I cannot relate to the bisexual point of view" anyway? I really don't understand this statement...if by relate you mean that you have to be bi to have a relationship with someone who is bi you'd be wrong. Or is your meaning that all bi individuals share exactly the same type of personalty and therefore from your vast experience you cannot relate? Maybe we need to replace the words "relate to" in your sentence with "accept". Do you have a long shopping list of "non relatable" traits that would knock people off your relationship list? Like did you know that Fenris isn't Christian or even....human! But somehow you can "relate to" a made up species in a GAME. I want to stress this is a GAME! So, somehow you can put on your fantasy hat and "relate to" everything else in the world of Dragon Age, but the line is drawn at bisexual and no no no you are not homophobic (drop Zevran reference here)....riiiiight.
There have been far more direct and outright offensive (which none of your posts have been) comments made on this topic, but I am picking out your post because the homophobia is far more subtle. I hope you take the time to examine these opinions closer.
To the members who are trying to find a middle ground with the homophobic posters I would like to just say that sometimes there is no grey.
If you are upset that all the love interests are bisexual you get a homophobic stamp from me. Ask yourself why you really care. There are no degrees or measurements for racism or homophobia you either are or you are not.

I'm suggesting that people who couldn't tolerate the idea of a Bethany romance "option" being available would obviously not be mature enough to handle it.

I would have been interested in a Merrill romance, but I'm not a big fan of the elf redesign so I'm not that certain now (I preferred her Origin look), and there are my concerns over the depth of the romance. So it's probably Isabella first time around when I play it
I am in relationship with Ashley at the moment. So BB Izzy and Merrill.

Then I'm not mature enough because the thought of how many guys (read:almost all) would romance Bethany because she looks hot (and not say for the more interesting emotional conflicts that being in love with a family member would give you) disgust me so much that I'm thanking God Bioware didn't include that option.RetroActiv wrote...

Nope. Real world religious/political/social agendas are not allowed.

David Gaider somewhat strongly/awkwardly dismissed the idea of a Bethany romance a long time ago, back when the weirdos were referring to it as "wincest".

Get real, people. It's not in because they did not want it to be in. Quit advocating for an incestuous romance on the sole grounds of it being groundbreaking.
I'm not saying that incest is bad, or good, or what have you. I'm trying to say that novelty for novelty's sake is where art goes to die.

Sure, they should have implemented a Bethanymance. It's never been done before, and that's all the motivation they needed to do it. Clearly, those who don't want it are narrow-minded primitives.

Art is dead. It's been dead since Homer, who did have incestual romances in his stuff.
So, it's not groundbreaking. It's just a tired old re-tread of a tired old idea.
Just like life.

Well that certainly isn't why I wanted her as a romance option. I think she's sweet and I find the existing female romance options to be completely off putting. A pirate who seems willing to do the deed with anything that moves and a malnourished elf. So disappoinnting.
